As I sat down to transcribe this video, I couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement and eagerness to dive back into my reading routine. The author had written about their recent reads, sharing with their audience what they loved about each book and why it resonated with them. I found myself nodding along as I read through the text, feeling like I understood exactly what the author was trying to convey.
The author discussed how certain aspects of a story can be like a puzzle that doesn't quite fit together. It's like you understand what the author is trying to do, but somehow it just doesn't click with you. For this author, it seemed like they had trouble fully believing in the relationship between two characters, and didn't feel like there was enough time spent on the actual romance plotline. I couldn't help but agree with their sentiments, feeling like sometimes authors prioritize other elements of a story over the romantic aspects.
The author also expressed frustration with how much time was spent on peripheral plotlines, such as the Torrance ex-husband storyline. While it was interesting in small doses, they felt like it could have been explored more deeply. In contrast, the Russell and Ahri romance plotline seemed to be overshadowed by other elements of the story. The author acknowledged that this wasn't necessarily a bad thing, but rather a personal preference.
Despite these criticisms, the author confessed that they had enjoyed reading the book despite its flaws. They appreciated the audiobook listening experience and praised the inclusion of diverse characters, such as a plus-size hero. However, their enthusiasm was tempered by the feeling that there could have been more depth to certain relationships. The author also expressed excitement about upcoming books and plans to dive back into their reading routine.
As I continued to transcribe this video, I found myself reflecting on my own relationship with reading. In March, I had read several books in rapid succession, much like the author's frenetic pace. While it was exhilarating at first, I began to feel overwhelmed by the sheer volume of content. The author acknowledged that they had intended to post more frequently, but struggled to maintain a consistent schedule.
This sentiment resonated deeply with me. For years, I had struggled with depression and anxiety, which made even simple tasks like reading feel insurmountable. However, this past month has seen a marked improvement in my mental health. The change in weather, combined with the arrival of spring, seemed to have lifted a weight off my shoulders.
The author's excitement about creating content for their audience was palpable. They had been behind schedule and struggling to keep up with their usual pace, but were determined to get back on track. I couldn't help but feel inspired by their enthusiasm, knowing that there are other creators out there who share similar struggles.
As the author began to discuss a new video series idea, my ears perked up in interest. The concept was simple: they would ask their audience for recommendations in different romance categories (historical, dark, fantasy, and contemporary). They had already collected some feedback on Instagram and were now inviting their viewers to share their own suggestions. I couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement at the prospect of exploring new books and discovering hidden gems.
In preparation for this video series, the author had created a Google form where they invited their audience to submit recommendations. They emphasized that it was completely optional, but encouraged readers to share their thoughts and opinions. The author acknowledged that it would be helpful to see a more diverse range of suggestions and promised to create an article highlighting the top recommendations in each category.
Finally, as I transcribed this video, I found myself reflecting on the importance of community and connection with others. The author's appreciation for their audience was clear, and their willingness to engage with them felt genuine and heartfelt. In a world where creators often prioritize their own interests over those of their viewers, it was refreshing to see someone prioritizing the needs and desires of their audience.
As I completed the transcription, I couldn't help but feel grateful for this video and its content. The author's enthusiasm was infectious, and their love for reading was palpable. I left feeling inspired and motivated to dive back into my own reading routine, knowing that there were creators out there who shared similar passions and interests.
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhello welcome back to my channel i hope you're having a fantastic day whenever you've decided to click on this video today i'm going to be doing my march wrap-up and then i'm going to be enlisting your help for projects that i'm trying to take on you're an integral part of that so if you're excited about that or the books that i have to talk about stay tuned first up for the wrap up portion of this video we have good girl complex by l kennedy i really didn't like this book which is super disappointing because i was so excited for elle kennedy's new adult traditionally published romance debut i really liked the off-campus series i really liked the spin-off series of the off-campus series like all of those books are super fun to me and they definitely are staples in that kind of like noodle realm but unfortunately girl girl complex really really fell flat for me it's about our main character mac who is a millionaire i don't know how else to kind of describe her she comes from a very rich wealthy well-to-do southern family and they expect mac to go to college and find a really rich boyfriend and then graduate and not have a real job they want her to sit on the boards of charities and just generally kind of stick to this plan that they have for her now mac doesn't really want to do this because she herself is a self-made millionaire i mean as much of a self-made millionaire as you can be when you have really rich parents she ends up starting this website that ends up going viral it's a place where i think you can share like dating fail type stories and it really took off and mac is able to kind of put some money aside and be able to like invest in other sorts of businesses and that's kind of like what mac wants to do generally speaking she wants to take the money she's earned from her website and invest in other things that interest her and excite her she doesn't really see a lot of value in a college education when she's already kind of successful in her own right but she decides to just humor her parents anyway and go to college now in college she ends up not meeting a boyfriend she has a long-term boyfriend that's part of the reason that she was enticed i guess kind of to go to this college but she ends up meeting a guy who strikes her fancy who is not her boyfriend who tries to get in her pants pretty immediately she feels this like really big draw and attraction and pulled to him and she's like oh should i cheat on my long-term boyfriend with this boy spoiler alert she does his name is cooper cooper is a townie in this sort of like beach town that mac is going to college in he unfortunately gets fired from his job one night for getting into a fight with a really rich douchebag guess who the rich douchebag is it's mac's boyfriend and so his payback or revenge idea cooper's idea is to sleep with mac and then tell max boyfriend about it so that's the basis of their relationship we love infidelity actually don't mind infidelity so much and that's actually not the biggest problem here the issue is that cooper ends up lying to mac this entire time all of cooper's friends know about his plan to get in max pants but yet no one decides to tell mack along the way that hey you might be getting scammed i really hated that i didn't think it was a good like basis for a relationship or a plot i feel like there could have been more interesting conflicts and indeed there were more interesting conflicts at play in this book so i don't know why we had to like hold on to this one so deeply it just didn't make sense and then on top of that i don't think that the relationship the basis the core of the relationship between mac and cooper was anything other than just lust like they were definitely very sexually attracted to each other and a big hang up that mac has throughout the story is like oh i've never really had an orgasm with my boyfriend sex isn't supposed to be fun this sort of thing like cool that you found that in cooper but i also just don't think that's enough for a romantic relationship it's funny i actually just got done watching a vlog from my friend crystal and she was talking about and complaining about how many romances have the relationship and the romance based on just lust with no sort of basis other than that no emotional connection no common interest nothing and that's definitely how this book felt i guess you could say that they were both kind of entrepreneurs like mac and cooper kind of had that in common but it wasn't enough for in my opinion to like form the basis of a romance and on top of that it didn't really work like this whole lying plotline i don't like it i don't like the whole hidden identity or i've been lying to you this whole time thing it felt very much like after by anna todd just not what i'm looking for personally in a new adult romance so i can't necessarily say i recommend this one and i ended up giving it two stars next up we have i think like the fourth book in a series it is after the fall by janna darling and this is a book between cressida and king who are our main couple in the first book in this series and i think the intention with this book was to be this sort of like bridge between the first three books in the series that all kind of revolve around family members finding their own like you know happily ever after and then like the greater motorcycle club in mass so the next book after this one is going to be someone who is not related to the garrosh guerra scaros anyway this story follows cressida and king we get to see them past their i guess initial attraction and initial romance they are a few years older maybe four years older at the start of the story did we get to see them and kind of like their struggles i guess you could say king is trying to become a patched in member of the fallen motorcycle club and cressida is trying to open her own bookstore and also convince king to marry her which feels like kind of a weird problem to have when we're supposed to think that this man is like love of her life and like he's supposed to be the romance hero in the first book anyway i didn't love this i felt like it was kind of a weird bridge between you know the two parts of the series i get what the author was trying to do i just don't think it was like super successful i didn't really feel like the plot in this book was super interesting nor did i feel like it opened up the second part of the series very well it felt like the plot line that had been culminating for the first three books kind of closed and wrapped up so i'm wondering what the next books in the series are going to have going for them besides just the couples at play there was also a plot line in this book that i don't want to spoil but i was also just like rolling my eyes at i i don't like certain certain things when they happen in books um it's not a secret baby or an accidental pregnancy or anything like that just letting you know but there is just like some really unbelievable that happens at the end of this book and i was like what's the purpose of this like why why why what are we doing and uh the romance here was just i mean it was lacking to say the least we already have these two they're already together i think they end up getting married in this book or something like that but beyond like a shitload of graphic sex scenes there's just not a whole lot in the way of romance and i just like i don't know what's the point at this point i i don't know i feel like i could have picked up the fifth book in the series and been totally fine so if you're going to read the series and you only want to read the best of books this isn't one of them anyway moving on the last book that i read this month that i haven't talked to you about previously is butter girl by rachel lynn solomon this author might sound familiar to you if you have read the x talk which is another book by this author i just thought to make that connection because i think had i not known that i i wouldn't i wouldn't know that that is how knowledge works is it not the story is about our main character ari abrams she is a weather girl as the title would imply she's a meteorologist at a news station and she's kind of in a weird situation she just broke up with her fiance or her fiance dumped her i guess stating that she was just not real enough for him she was a little bit too happy-go-lucky a little bit too unwilling to share her deep and heavy emotions with him so she's kind of dealing with that it was a really heartbreaking loss for her and now she's kind of dealing with the sadness and the depression that follows that she's dealt with depression her whole life and that's a huge theme in this book so trigger warning for that also kind of navigating the relationship with her mom who has had depression ari's whole life on top of that she's dealing with a lot of tension in her workplace so she is not like the head meteorologist here or the head weather girl i guess as uh her love interest so lovingly calls her she works with a woman named torrance hale and torrance is like the head honcho the best meteorologist the most famous meteorologist in town and she is supposed to be kind of the mentor in the guide for ari but she is too busy fighting with her ex-husband who also works at the station instead and so ari and uh kind of colleague and friend in the sports part of the news station russell decided to take it upon themselves to get torrance and torrence's ex-husband kind of back together because they see there's some sort of like potential there so the story is about russell and ari kind of falling for each other as they're trying to get torrance and torrance's ex-husband to reconcile so that their work environment is no longer toxic this was fine i didn't totally love it although i do think if you enjoyed the x talk you will probably enjoy the story as well it had some of the same beats it had sort of the same feeling to it and it did touch on some harder cutting issues as well i do appreciate the depression representation here well it's not something that i personally related to as someone who deals with depression uh i do think it's important to have this sort of representation here got to see a different side of depression that i don't normally see ari definitely struggles with these really dark sad feelings but she also doesn't feel like she can ever share and she doesn't feel like she can be vulnerable so she puts on this happy face instead and that's kind of how she presents herself to the world so i do think that's something that a lot of people could relate to i do think it's important to have that in stories um it just wasn't something that i personally really connected with i liked the slow burn i guess you could say between russell and ari i did ultimately like their attraction i understood it and i liked how reassuring our heroine was to our hero our hero is plus size and he definitely is self-conscious about that and i really liked how our heroine kind of like comforted our hero and was just like straight up sexually attracted to him and showed him like hey there's nothing wrong with you i'm into you you're sexy i love that i thought it was awesome i think for me just what was like lacking here was the the spark i don't know how to say it i i felt the attraction between the two of them i just feel like the spark was missing it felt like all of the pieces were there but the intangible was just missing and i think that happens a lot of the time when i'm reading these sort of like traditionally published contemporary romances that are trying to kind of hit certain marks and show certain things it's like i understand what the author was trying to do i just didn't fully believe the relationship and didn't fully buy into it i also felt like there was maybe just a little bit too much time spent on the peripherals there was just so much time spent on the sort of like torrance ex-husband plot line when i feel like we could have definitely dived deeper into the whole russell and ahri romance plotline so i don't know it was good it was it was fun to read i love the audiobook listening experience and i think if the meteorology or like news station plotline sounds interesting to you definitely pick it up again also i think it's awesome that there's good depression wrap there is a plus-size hero but it just wasn't something that i like totally adored so those are the books that i read in march um sort of like rapid fire style i didn't intend to talk as quickly as i did but um hopefully that was nice and easy breezy for you this month i'm hoping to read a whole lot more um i've already gone through a couple of books and it's only like the third day of april so i feel really good about that and i'm feeling a lot more like myself than i have in a long while which again feels really good to say depression has been a real son of a until this time change the time change the bright weather has really been helping um and i'm just excited to like make content for y'all i have all of april planned out i am on track and on schedule for that so hopefully they're going to be some exciting videos coming soon i don't want to just continue to post like one-off reading vlogs not that that's bad i just i want to be a little bit more consistent and be back to like my normal hectic frantic schedule you know what i mean it makes me feel good actually like i like that and something that could help me would actually be your help i had this video series idea very much inspired by miss abby glines she does the series where she asks her subscribers what their favorite makeup products are in a certain category she tallies up the ones that have the most recommendations or the most like loves i guess and she ends up going through those and kind of like talking about why people love them and it just acts as a really good way and place for people to get recommendations so i thought it would be fun to do that for books so i collected some feedback on instagram and got some really good answers for a few different romance categories that i am looking for recommendations for but i thought it would be fun to ask y'all here as well so in the description of this video there's going to be a google form but you can fill out any sort of like recommendations you have for the romance categories i'm looking for i believe there's just four at the moment i'm looking for historical romance recommendations dark romance fantasy romance and contemporary romance just four categories and i i really want to see what the most popular books are in these categories to see if i've read them to maybe get recommendations from you and then to kind of present the top 10 in each category um in video format and hopefully give you some really good recommendations um based on i guess your recommendations so the google form has slots for each of the different categories you don't have to fill in all of the categories if you don't want to but i do ask that if you are going to fill out the form that if you let's say have a historical romance recommendation for me that you give me the title of the book and the author's name and then click submit and if you have let's say like five recommendations that you submit the form five different times this makes it easier when it comes to the entries and responses in that google form but if you if you can't manage that i'll figure it out i'm sure um but that's the help that i need from you i'm hoping to get this video series started here this summer and um hopefully expand it from there besides these four uh categories but thank you for your help in advance if you decide to help me out on this endeavor i think it's gonna be really fun it's a series that i'm really excited about and it's been a while since i've been excited about like a new video series here on my channel i really just appreciate y'all in general thank you for being so patient with me i know i've been uh lacking on slack in these past couple of months but i'm feeling more like myself i think i've said that the past couple of months it does seem to be slowly getting better but um i can promise you for a fact april's gonna be much better but um thanks so much for watching i love y'all so much thanks advance for your help and until wednesdayhello welcome back to my channel i hope you're having a fantastic day whenever you've decided to click on this video today i'm going
