Mac 101 - How to take screenshots with the Touch Bar

How to Take a Screenshot on Your MacBook Pro Using the Touch Bar

To take a screenshot with your MacBook Pro's touch bar, you first need to enable the screenshot button in the touch bar. By default, it's not there, so you'll need to take a few easy steps to add it back in. To do this, venture over to your System Preferences and select Keyboard. Make sure you're under the Keyboard tab, as this is where you'll find all of your keyboard settings.

Once you're in the Keyboard tab, click on "Customize Control Strip." This will bring up a customization menu where you can add or remove various controls from your touch bar. Look for the screenshot button and drag it down to the area of the control strip where you want it to appear. Click "Done" once you've placed the button in the desired location, and now you'll see the screenshot button on your touch bar.

When you tap the little Chevron button to expand the control strip, you'll see the screenshot button right where you placed it. This makes it easy to access the screenshot function whenever you need it. When you tap the screenshot button, you'll be presented with various options for how you want to take and save your screenshot. To the left, you'll see the type of screenshot you've selected, and to the right, you'll see what will happen when you take this screenshot.

One option is to have it saved to your desktop or Documents folder. Another option is to have it sent to your clipboard or opened up in Preview Mail or Messages. You can choose any of these options by selecting them from the menu that appears when you tap the screenshot button. For example, if you want to save the screenshot to your desktop, you'll select "Save to Desktop" and then choose whether you want to capture a specific portion of the screen or take the entire screen.

Once you've selected your options, simply release the mouse or trackpad button that you're using to capture the screenshot. This will save it right to your chosen location. Now that you have the screenshot button on your touch bar and know how to use it, let's try taking a few screenshots with different settings.

Let's take another screenshot using our touch bar, but this time we'll change things up a bit. Instead of saving it to the desktop, we're going to open it up in Preview. Tap the area next to "Save To" and then choose "Preview." This will allow us to view the screenshot before deciding what to do with it. We can use Preview to edit or modify the screenshot if needed, or simply save it for later.

Now that you've seen how to take a screenshot of the entire screen in Preview, let's try taking another screenshot with an even different setting. This time, we're going to open up a window and press our screenshot button. We'll then choose "Window" as our screenshot type, which will allow us to select just one window instead of the entire screen. By doing this, we can take a screenshot of a specific window or application that we need.

We've shown you how to take a screenshot with your MacBook Pro's touch bar using various settings and options. We hope that by following these steps and practicing with different screenshots, you'll be able to master taking screenshots with your touch bar in no time.
