The 8 most high-tech cars ever... That arrived too early!

**The Pioneering Era of Coupes SUVs: A Look Back**

The coupe SUV genre has become increasingly popular in recent years, with many manufacturers jumping on the bandwagon to create their own versions. However, not all of these modern interpretations are new ideas. In fact, some cars from the 80s were ahead of their time and paved the way for the modern coupes SUVs we know today.

One such car is the Lamborghini LM002, also known as the Rambo Lambo, which was built in 1986. This super-fast off-roader was designed to be an armored warehouse on wheels, with a powerful 5.2-liter V12 engine and a reputation for being virtually indestructible. The LM002's design may seem forgettable today, but its capabilities were truly impressive back in the day.

The Lamborghini LM002 is just one example of how pioneers like Lamborghini were pushing the boundaries of what was possible in car design. Another notable pioneer is the Tucker 48, a luxury car from the 1940s that featured advanced safety technology for its time. The Tucker 48 had a roll bar that went all the way around the car to protect occupants, as well as a steering mechanism behind the front wheels to prevent it from moving backwards in a crash. Its dashboard was also padded with shatterproof glass and features like airbags were still in their infancy.

In contrast to these retro pioneers, modern manufacturers have built upon existing ideas to create new and innovative cars. Porsche is one such manufacturer that has consistently pushed the boundaries of what's possible in car design. The 959 from 1986 was a groundbreaking supercar that featured sequential turbos to reduce lag and automatic suspension that could adjust ride height depending on speed.

The 959 also showcased advanced technology features, including a rear-mounted engine and a four-wheel-drive system that could automatically send power to the wheel with the most grip. This technology was years ahead of its time, and it laid the groundwork for modern all-wheel-drive systems found in many cars today.

Fast-forward to the present day, and we have the latest crop of fast SUVs from manufacturers like Audi, BMW, and Lamborghini. These cars are designed to offer the best of both worlds: on-road comfort and off-road capability. They often feature advanced suspension systems, all-wheel-drive technologies, and powerful engines that can propel them from 0-60mph in under five seconds.

However, not every manufacturer has made significant contributions to the SUV genre. Porsche's 911 Turbo S is a notable exception, with its incredible speed and handling making it feel like a car that defies the laws of physics. The 918 Spyder is another example of Porsche's innovative spirit, with its hybrid powertrain and advanced aerodynamics making it one of the fastest production cars in the world.

**The Citroen DS: A Pioneer of Comfort**

Another manufacturer that has consistently pushed the boundaries of what's possible in car design is Citroen. The company's first DS model was launched in 1955, and this iconic car remains one of the most comfortable vehicles on the road today.

One of the DS's most innovative features was its hydro-pneumatic suspension system, which allowed it to maintain a smooth ride over even the worst roads. This technology also enabled the car to power the steering, brakes, clutch, and gearbox, making it incredibly easy to drive. The Citroen DS is still considered one of the most comfortable cars ever built, with many owners reporting hours of stress-free driving.

Interestingly, Rolls-Royce actually used some of these hydro-pneumatic technology in its own cars, demonstrating just how groundbreaking the DS was when it was first introduced. Today, the Citroen DS remains a testament to the company's commitment to innovative design and engineering.

**Conclusion**

The world of car design is constantly evolving, with manufacturers pushing the boundaries of what's possible year after year. From the pioneering Lamborghini LM002 to the modern Porsche 911 Turbo S, there are countless examples of cars that have helped shape the SUV genre into what it is today. By studying these pioneers and innovators, we can gain a deeper appreciation for the art and science of car design, and look forward to seeing what the future holds for this exciting industry.

manufacturers went a bit rogue they took some brave pills and built a car that no one saw coming some of these were huge successes and others were total flops and a few of them were so futuristic that they still feel modern now so here's my pick of the cars that were way ahead of their time buying a new car then head to car wow and my team will help you find your next car at a fair price car wow of its time it got a huge digital instrument display inside just like some of the huge touchscreens you get today only without the touch bit obviously this tech never really worked properly though it's a bright surprise and it was so new and expensive that aston blew the budget when they were developing it and not only by a couple of grand either the whole lagonda project went over budget by 400 you're not going to be able to cover that overspend by finding some money down the back of your couch now are you building electric cars is a tough business just ask elon musk though it does do rather well general motors had a stab at it way before tesla when they made the ev1 in 1996. it had 140 horsepower and it could do 100 miles between charges which isn't too far off some of the electric cars of today like the mini electric and the honda e unlike these cars though the ev1 was super aerodynamic and had plastic body panels to reduce weight it even had keyless ignition and air conditioning you could program to come on at the same time every day just like in a brand new tesla but general motors decided to repossess every ev1 in the late 90s and it had most of them crushed why did they do that well there are actually plenty of conspiracy theories out there about it but i guess we'll never really know the truth but what do you think happened let me know in the comments below i'll read them because i'm interested i love the audi a2 and i'm actually thinking about buying one but i'm put off slightly because whenever i point them out to my girlfriend she goes yeah it's horrible now part of the reason is because it looks a bit like a bar of soap on wheels but it's weird shape means that it's mega roomy inside in fact it's made almost completely out of aluminium as well so it should never rust and it comes in at just 830 kilograms which is really quite light this means that it's actually quite efficient especially the diesel models there's one version of the a2 which can do more than 90 miles per gallon the problem the car faced when it was on sale was the fact that being built out of aluminium meant it was mega expensive to make and audi just couldn't build the a2 on a regular production line it had to have its own special production line and its weird looks meant it was never a big sales success it's a shame really because i think it's a brilliant car
