Samsung Galaxy Note 5 Hands-On Review

The Note 5: A Powerhouse with Innovative Features

As I take a look at the web page that I'm currently viewing, I notice that there are four options available over here instead of the usual three. This new feature is called Scroll Capture, and it's something that I'm pretty excited about. It allows me to capture a screenshot of the entire web page, which can be useful for saving important information or creating tutorials. With this feature, I can scroll up and down to select the specific parts of the page that I want to capture. The maximum number of screens that I can capture is 22, but I'm going to stop at 10 for now.

Once I've captured the screenshot, I have two options: Capture More or Done. If I tap "Capture More", it will continue to scroll up until I reach my selected limit. If I want to finish capturing, I'll tap "Done". In this case, I choose to click "Done" and see that I now have three new options: Save in Scrapbook, Save in Gallery, or Share. I decide to save the screenshot to my gallery, which is a great way to organize all of my captured screens.

Another useful feature on the Note 5 is the ability to send copies of chat transcripts to friends. Since I don't have any chat apps installed on this phone, this feature could be really convenient for sharing conversation logs with others. With the Note 5's advanced camera capabilities, it would also be a great tool for capturing and sharing moments from sporting events or other activities.

The camera app on the Note 5 is similar to that of the S6 and S6 Edge, but with some exciting new features. One of these features is Live Broadcast, which allows users to share live video on YouTube. To use this feature, I would need to sign in using my YouTube account and then tap the "Live Broadcast" option when I want to start filming. This feature is similar to Periscope, but it's connected directly to YouTube, making it easy to share live videos with a wider audience.

Another camera feature on the Note 5 is Live Mode. This feature allows users to take selfies and adjust their skin tone, eye size, face shape, and more to create a flawless look. With this feature, I can enlarge my eyes, change my skin tone from 1-10, and even correct the shape of my face. Once I'm satisfied with my appearance, I can take a selfie.

The final camera feature on the Note 5 is Video Collage. This feature allows users to create short videos that are perfect for sharing on social media platforms like Vine or Instagram. To use this feature, I tap "Video Collage" and select the duration and aspect ratio of my video. I can then choose individual boxes to record, add background music, and even add end tags to make my video more engaging. With this feature, I can create a compelling video that showcases my hands and fingers in action.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhi I'm Michael Josh and welcome to gadget match we're here in New York for the launch of the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and here it is if you haven't heard of the note this is Samsung's line of oversized smartphones also called fablet if you're a previous note user you'll notice some big design changes this year's smartphone refresh for Samsung has been all about premium materials so it's no surprise that the Note 5 gets the same treatment with glass front and back plates and an aluminum frame I'm really loving the back on the Note 5 it features the same curves as the front of the S6 Edge and the new S6 Edge Plus the curves make the phone more grippable also on the back is a camera that protrudes just like on the S6 a 16 megapixel camera with Optical image stabilization it's exactly the same camera that's on the S6 and the S6 Edge usually by this time of the year technology has improved so much so that the note gets a slightly better camera than the sline but not this here but that's okay because the S6 has one of the best cameras we've seen on a smartphone this year the front of the device retains a similar Samsung aesthetic a logo under the earpiece and a capsule shaped home button that now has an improved fingerprint scanner like on the S6 you just hold to unlock instead of having to swipe down everybody's been talking about this QHD display which is flushed against the edges of the phone the display is still 5.7 in like the Note 4 but with the saved space from the smaller bezels comes a slightly smaller footprint it's also thinner than last year's model button and Port placements are standard power button on the right hand side of the device on the left a volume rocker there is no micro SD card slot up top tiny holes for the microphones and the nano SIM card tray in some markets like the Philippines the note five will be a dual SIM smartphone Samsung has removed the IR Blaster from the phone on the bottom a headphone jack micro USB port speaker grills and the S Pen which is now spring loading you press to eject then you pull out when retracted you can press the button like you would a Clickety pen without triggering any actions let's take a look at the interface of the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 this is TouchWiz running Android 5 5.1.1 it's very similar to what's available on the Galaxy S6 and the S6 Edge but you'll notice that the icons are different now they're all of the same size and shape more or less square with rounded Corners except for third party apps like Facebook and YouTube over there those remain the same icons that or the the way that they were originally designed if you swipe to the right from the home screen it brings up flip board briefing which is basically curated articles and then the app drawer looks like this the drop down notification shade looks like this you can swipe to the right to bring up five more icons and you can turn off for example Bluetooth like that you can also go in and edit and arrange the icons based on what you'd like to appear on this list of five most frequently used settings settings menu looks like this if you're familiar with the S6 or the S6 Edge it looks exactly the same you can go into edit and just pick the six most frequently used setting options and then you can also go into here and search for something like maybe fingerprint scanner fingerprints and then you can quickly get to that setting as well most of the new features on the Note 5 have to do with their bundle stylus they call it the S Pen and it's located over here on the bottom right hand side of the screen you press down to eject and then you can pull it out like like so and then notice that the screen doesn't really turn on it's a new feature called screen off note taking mode you can discreetly take a note while in a meeting so for example I want to take note of our URL Gadget matchet and then tap save and then I can just stow away this stylus and then later I can go back into my phone and as you can see over here screen off memo has been saved all I have to do is tap that and the note that we took while the screen was off is saved and I can go ahead and save that over here now if I want to go back at a later time it's over here in the S Note application now speaking of the S Note application this application has been around for a while but they've really uh simplified the interface to make it easier to use you basically have three options over there list which is this list and then you have pen and eraser pretty straightforward all the other features that you are used to is tucked away in the more Tab and one thing that you might find useful is the PIN to home screen option if you tap that it will save the note to your home screen it will appear like a widget or like an icon and you can tap that to bring up the note when you need that information previous note users will recognize this interface it's called Air Command and basically you have Action Memo smart select and Screen WR as options Air Command has received a major facelift it looks prettier the icons have color on them but one thing I really like about Air Command now is that you have this looing bar over here or this bubble and you can basically tuck it into different parts of your screen wherever it doesn't really get in the way of the user experience but the beauty of that is unlike before where I have to hover my pen over the display and press a button to bring up Air Command like that now all I really have to do is touch this floating bubble regardless of where it is on the screen and it will bring up the options in Air Command you'll also notice that there's something new over here called add shortcut so aside from these three different options Action Memo smart select and Screen WR I can go and tap the plus sign and there are a list of different apps which I can add as shortcut so for example I want a shortcut to the calculator camera and maybe my gallery I can go ahead and do that and then now those icons are here when I bring up Air Command in and again the great thing is can be anywhere on the screen and I can just tap it and I have a shortcut to my gallery for example now these three Air Command features have gotten an upgrade earlier I showed you Action Memo and it's simplified interface smart select 2 has been upgraded there are a couple of things that I want to show you now for example you can use the lasso tool to select these three icons I hope I do it right I saw this on the demo earlier now up here I don't know if you can see it really well you have a rectangle lasso oval and auto shape Auto shape reminds me of a tool on Photoshop let me go ahead and tap that and as you can see it's identified the shapes and now I have perfectly selected just those squares for the icon now I can go ahead and save that in my gallery and then now I go to Gallery let's take a look at the screenshots and over here I have the nicely cutout icons using the lasso tool and the auto shape tool pretty cool another new feature of smart select is the ability after you've made a selection for example to make a clipping to annotate from within the application previously you would have to export it and then do the annotations there now all you have to do is type or tap right and then it will bring up the clipping you just made and now I have a pen tool I can Circle for example that icon over there and say this one and then I can save it to my gallery over here gallery you have that clipping as well the last feature that I'd like to get into has to do with the third option on Air Command called screen WR screen WR basically takes a screenshot so if I tap this it'll take a screenshot of the web page that I'm currently viewing now normally there are only three options over here there are four and over here on the left most side is something called scroll capture it's a feature I'm pretty excited about I think it is something that I will use a lot now if you tap that it will scroll up save it give you two options capture more or done I'll tap capture more it'll scroll up capture more scroll up capture more scroll up capture more scroll up you get the point you can capture up to 22 screens but I'm going to stop here I'll click done and then you'll see the three options to share save in scrapbook or save in gallery I can share this to my friends or I can just save it to my gallery which is what I'm going to do and let me go to the gallery under screenshots you'll see that it has saved the entire web page quite a lengthy one at that and that's a pretty cool feature another use that I can think of is for example you know how sometimes we send copies of chat transcripts to our friends I don't have any chat apps installed because this isn't my phone but that would be another thing that you could use this feature for there are two more Fe features that I like to go into both have to do with the camera app now the camera on the Note 5 is exactly the same camera that's available on the S6 and the S6 Edge now like both phones you can double tap on the home button and it will almost instantly launch the camera it's my favorite feature on the S6 and that is now available on the Note 5 as well however when you tap mode unlike the S6 and the S6 Edge you have a new feature called live broadcast if you're familiar with Periscope this basically does the same thing but it is connected to YouTube so you need to sign in using your YouTube account and then once you do so you will be able to broadcast live via a YouTube live stream and then you can also connect to your Twitter account for example so that each time you start a broadcast a tweet will go out and it will inform your followers with it will give them a link so that they can follow along and they can watch your live stream now you can also set the camera let me just cancel that and you can also use a front-facing camera for your live stream if you like to take selfies then you'll like the new Bey mode beauy has been available on Samsung smartphones for a while now but that feature has been expanded on the Note 5 you can now adjust your skin skin tone enlarge your eyes make your face Slimmer and correct the shape of your face if you feel like you need to so let me go ahead and try that let's make my my skin tone is all the way at eight so I have the most airbrushing let's make my eyes as large as possible looking better already and then you can see my my face can either be a little bit more chubby or thinner so thin face big eyes and then turn on shape correction so that's supposedly the correct face shape and then if you like what you see take a selfie the last camera feature I'd like to walk you through is called video collage if you tap that it allows you to make video collages for maybe Vine or Instagram you can go ahead and change the duration over here so maybe 6 seconds for Vine or 15 seconds for Instagram just to make this demo really short I'm going to go ahead and pick 3 seconds you could also change the aspect ratio so 4x3 I'm going to go ahead and click 1 by one because I would like a square video for Instagram and then I'm going to go ahead and pick the four box selection over there now you can turn hdr on add some effects but let's just leave it like this now go ahead and record one box at a time one two there you go and then second Box 2 3 and then third box 3 2 one and then the last box now my hands and my fingers aren't the most compelling of videos but you know if you're maybe shooting a sporting event that would be actually pretty exciting now you can add some background music by going into here and maybe let's pick a guitar riff that's pretty cool and then you could also add some end Tags I'm not going to do that but right now that's my video and I can go ahead and save that and that my friends is video collage hey everyone can't get enough of the Note 5 don't worry just click on any of these links for more you can also follow our coverage on gadgetm match. netn 5 keep those thumbs up coming
