Collecting Material Samples for Your Workshop

**The Importance of Sample Packs in Crafting and DIY Projects**

As any crafter or DIY enthusiast knows, having the right materials can make all the difference between a successful project and a failed one. However, when it comes to working with new materials, especially those that are not widely available or understood, finding high-quality samples can be a challenge. That's where sample packs come in – pre-packaged collections of different materials, textures, and thicknesses that can help you figure out exactly what you need for your project.

One such example is the 70 mesh screen, which is often used for printing and crafting. According to one expert, this particular mesh is "not cheap," but it's an essential tool for many DIY projects. When shopping online, it's not always easy to know what material to choose without having seen it in person. That's where sample packs come in – a handy guide that can help you determine the exact shade or texture you need.

For those who work with 3D printing, sample packs are also essential. For example, when working with laser cutting materials, sample packs can provide a wealth of information about different resins and powders. Some companies even offer free samples or swatches to test their products before committing to a purchase. These samples can be invaluable in understanding the properties and behavior of different materials.

Another key benefit of sample packs is that they can help you figure out the hardness of different materials. For example, using a durometer scale, which is divided into different shore diameters, can help you determine the exact hardness of a material. This is especially useful when working with rubbers and plastics, which can change properties over time due to exposure to sunlight or other environmental factors.

In fact, having a collection of sample packs for common materials like rubber, plastic, and paper can be incredibly valuable in your DIY projects. For example, if you're looking to create custom stickers, contacting the manufacturer directly is often the best way to get high-quality samples. Some companies will even send you a free sample pack or provide guidance on choosing the right materials.

One expert's personal collection of laser cutting samples has been ever-expanding over time. "This one did cost me some money," they note, but it's been worth every penny. The company behind the samples offers an etching material with different marbleized textures and powders that can be used to create unique effects in laser cutting projects.

Of course, not all sample packs are created equal. Some may have a limited lifespan, especially if they're exposed to light or other environmental factors over time. For example, some rubbers may need to be replaced every few years due to changes in color or properties. However, this is also an opportunity for manufacturers to update their products and ensure that customers get the best possible results.

For those who are interested in learning more about sample packs and how they can help with DIY projects, there's no better resource than online communities and forums dedicated to crafting and making. By sharing tips, advice, and experience, these communities can help newcomers (and seasoned pros alike!) find high-quality materials and get the most out of their projects.

**The Power of Knowing**

As one expert notes, knowing the names of things – including specific materials, textures, and thicknesses – is a key part of crafting and DIY success. This knowledge allows you to make informed decisions about which materials to use for your project, saving time and money in the process. Whether it's laser cutting, 3D printing, or traditional crafts like sewing or woodworking, having a solid understanding of materials can make all the difference between a successful project and one that falls short.

**The Secret Power of Sample Packs**

For those who are new to crafting and DIY projects, sample packs may seem intimidating – especially if you're not familiar with the terminology or terms. However, as any expert will tell you, having access to high-quality samples can be a game-changer. By providing an affordable way to test different materials and textures, sample packs can help beginners (and seasoned pros alike!) figure out exactly what they need for their project.

In fact, one company has made it easy to find high-quality sample packs by offering free shipping and handling on orders over a certain amount. By providing this incentive, the company is encouraging customers to try new materials and textures – and discover the full range of possibilities available in the world of crafting and DIY.

Overall, sample packs are an essential tool for anyone who works with materials or crafts. Whether you're just starting out or have years of experience under your belt, having access to high-quality samples can help you make informed decisions about which materials to use for your project – and save time and money in the process.

pendant yeah we use that then - we just did a little project where we had some tea molding for arcade cabinets so I was able to contact the company and have them send me sample pieces so I can see like how big they are how wide they are the material consistency and more importantly the colors yeah so like a color match it to the paint that we need it and stuff like that other things which I have sent away for leathers and materials and these are not these scraps or yeah actual sample like packs and things that you can request of them in the middle of both I found this sometimes you can actually contact a manufacturer directly and just ask them it may not be listed on their website or in the catalog or whatever but if you just call and ask they may send you samples and I've had particularly luck with like people on Etsy like I had some leather samples and stuff because the sheet of love is expensive and I'm like I'm a little afraid to commit to buying that and you know unless I have checked it out first well also the difference between getting actual samples and scraps is that sometimes with the scraps you may like it you may have it but you may not know where to get more of it yeah so you really need to everything's gonna be organizing labels see when you get your specialized material or colors you know this is what I need for this project and yes that's where I can go and reach out and get more or that's what I can send someone again and match this exactly yeah another this is like going back to my oldest Sam Puckett these are awesome these are gel packs for studio lighting so you'd use these we use them around test it all the time use them for movies and sets so you can pick out you know different types of gels and filters and diffusions and stuff like that and in this particular case they're telling an exact model number so this is an example like I use this to figure out what color a pink gel to get forward the ghost trap before I committed to buying a whole roll to make a little bunch so there's like little swatch packs like that that you can get love it one of our favorite places get hardware mcmaster-carr it's the you know five inches thick catalog they are excellent place to get industrial samplers and they will often in like so you get to the the metal sheet section or whatever they will actually have like legit sample packs it'll tell you exactly what like types of materials and hardnesses and sizes will be in it and these are some of the ones that I've gotten from those so like I needed a particular kind of felt so this is literally just different types of felt some are really really hard some are soft and fluffy but I I went to various fabric stores I ordered a bunch of you know felt just blindly and I was just drew I was dropping so much money trying to figure out what to get and this was like an $8 swatch pack that I was able to figure out immediately it I mean with the clear sometimes the sample exactly what you need in in the thickness and in in in the actual texture of it yeah I think I'm at you wouldn't want 70 mesh books is 250 much I know then things you know we're more familiar with 3d printing form lamps has a bunch of different resins and you're like and they're not cheap so you can send away and get a pool of different materials so you can see how they work so that's like the durable you can they make a snap fit so you can see how that that works mechanically oh okay other things hardness I think we've had a few videos before and like durometer yes figuring how hard things are and so like the durometer scale it's it's divided in there's different sure diameters and so you might have something very soft that is a pencil eraser and that might be you know like a shore 30 or something and then you get something like a boot heel and that'll be sure eighty and so I have different packs for figuring out the shore hardness so like this is a really good example this rubber pack these are all different durometer zuv robbery so we have thirty very stretchy very I saw versus 70 which I can barely pull so that might be the difference between like a boot heel and like a gummy eraser so when you're when you're ordering the stuff online and you can't see it in person these are really good guides to figure out exactly what you need or if you have like a piece of like
