The Experience of Driving the Mercedes-AMG 540 1.6 at Goodwood

As I stood at the base of the hill, I couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement and trepidation. This was my first time driving the Mercedes-AMG 540 1.6 at Goodwood, and I had heard so much about this car. The lag on this chip was notorious, and I wasn't sure if I would be able to handle it.

As we made our way onto the circuit, I couldn't help but feel a sense of nostalgia. I remembered watching videos of drivers tackling this hill when I first started YouTube, and how they seemed to glide up it with ease. The truth was, though, that this car was not as easy to drive as it looked. The lag on my chip made every shift feel sluggish, and I found myself wondering if I had bitten off more than I could chew.

But then we were underway, and I was determined to prove to myself that I wasn't as bad as I thought. As we climbed the hill, the car began to sound incredible. It was like a million dollars in my ears, with every rev of the engine sending shivers down my spine. The way it accelerated up the hill was simply breathtaking, and for a moment, I felt like I was flying.

As we reached the top, I took a moment to appreciate the view. The forest rally stage was just visible to our left, and I couldn't help but feel a sense of awe at the sheer power of this car. It was one of my favorites, and I loved the way it sounded - like nothing else in the world.

But then, we turned around and began our descent back down the hill. This part of the drive was always more relaxed than going up, as the drivers would often do donuts and other tricks to entertain the crowd. It was a great way to unwind after the adrenaline rush of climbing the hill, and I found myself smiling as we made our way down.

As we reached the bottom of the hill, I took one last look at the car before us. The AMG Black Series was an incredible machine, with its rear-wheel drive setup and high-revving engine making it a joy to drive on this particular track. It was the perfect car for having some fun with, and I felt privileged to be behind the wheel of such an iconic vehicle.

For me, driving at Goodwood is always an experience I will remember for years to come. The combination of power, speed, and nostalgia made every moment special, even if it wasn't without its challenges. And as I looked over at my driver, I couldn't help but feel a sense of admiration for the skills they possessed behind the wheel.

As we finished our drive and stepped out of the car, I felt exhilarated and fulfilled. It was an experience I would always treasure, and one that had left me with an even greater appreciation for the power and beauty of this incredible machine.

of speed hill climb now interestingly this batch isn't run under kind of racing conditions I'd only to wear a helmet I don't need to wear race suit and I don't actually have to have a race license which you would normally do to drive up the good world of the festival speed hill climb that's not going to stop me when I Drive the ALF for a bit later on in the show this should be good fun so Alfre brought their a game today then we have to Giulia Quadrifoglio s' Estelle vo Quadrifoglio in the same color I had for a week took that car to v-max absolutely epic thing to Grand Cherokee track Hawks so what we've got there 710 horsepower just shy of 900 Newton meters absolute weapons of cars and then perhaps the coolest of all a jeep wrangler rubicon very cool yellow color they've got the roof off today because it is absolutely baking yeah but I'm not sure whether I'm going to be driving the white one or the red one by the one's gonna be good fun so what I thought might be cool is to bring you if you're like backstage behind the scenes of what it's like to drive a car up the hill in a batch so we are in this particular batch quite lucky we were able to set up cameras in the car thankfully so I can film awesome render we go bat bong so I'm basically gonna use two cameras a camera facing into the cabin and a front-facing camera and then on the roof back there I've also got a GoPro to get the camera shot we can use external cameras but they have to be very very securely mounted and I'm kind of not wanting to risk anything at the start line so I think three cameras should get me enough footage and this particular patch as I said isn't isn't like the race cars they go where you need a racing license so you can the normal driving licence but I'm gonna have a professional racing driver in the passenger seat I guess just you know stopping me in case I go too fast low because have dual control but it should be fine this is more of those batches where it's not really about pushing on and driving really hard it's about just putting the cars on display that's still very cool and a nice little I'm quite chuffed about this because I'm driving the Alfa Romeo Giulia out from a a racing edition tomorrow up the hill and that is in a proper batch under MSA rules race license required and that's a very very different set of gravy basically I'm quite nervous about that because you do need to go reasonably faster the car behind doesn't catch you up but you don't want to go too fast so you crash so this is a really nice break in I'm really chuffed it let me get my lines and stuff yeah really cool look at what bumped in about to get reasonably good it is it started really well I've seen a couple of really cool and then as you can obviously behind us it's not good very good yeah so here we're here we're there Alfre mayor now what are you driving so I'm driving the Giulia Quadrifoglio well I've got this perfect weather local dish to actually use these Iroquois tires and very amazing basically experience though isn't it of each even at the airport yeah you have our 24 spineless is slightly increasing yeah just said that this is nice because it's not under MSA rules so it's not quite as much precious so I'm driving the Julia tomorrow yeah and that's like loads of pressure but the cool thing is I'm gonna wear my race do tomorrow full-on petrol variant an excuse to walk through the park with a race do one but that's the thing and it's great for you guys as well to see no it's great for you to see us having fun balls to experience I mean how are you going to see a 720 horsepower Jeep doing the good with your plan but why things are saying it's because of people like you watching this that we get to share this with you yeah three years there to basically stop me being interview I guess not so we can transfer the other cameras in a bit but it is much cooler in here once the temperature is 20 it's not 20 degrees out there wait yeah mode right off we go alright then so first things first is we have to join the big crocodile of cars I'm gonna probably just back the aircon otherwise would get bloated noise better so yeah we've got to basically follow or when you when you're doing the the hill climb you have to come from the assembly aware we are now you then follow in a big long Crockett are very cool cars with a couple of nine nine two Porsches through the crowds to the start/finish line and then you get to go so just make sure I don't kind of you know run anybody over or squash anybody's and legs damage the car this is the cool pit you kind of you know for years I used to come to good wouldn't you stand the other side of the a veils and suddenly you find yourself driving a driving a car which is it makes it change that's for sure yeah so yeah so my my passenger today Lewis is a Porsche Cup drivers of us I'm gonna get some good tips a little bit so you should be a woman that's for sure this sounds better like that these are epic epic things now I've got just under a full tank of fuel I reckon we probably just about okay with money to top it up we blow down from the hill so that's just childish and immature here we go onto the circuit this is where you start pinching yourself as I said early when I was chatting to Steph you know when you start YouTube you watch people doing this and you think forgot just how much lag there is on your chip it's the supercharger wider so everybody new to enrolling don't give it up yeah it's no quite as good as that AMG but it'll do I've seen the map that's how you do it we definitely won't be doing that what we might do is get a picture of this guy doing here haha skills the cosmos skills I won't be doing that four-wheel drive sorry sto Achilles staff ya realize he was driving up that's brilliant well guys here we go we are very clearly at the staff miss on this guy in this AMG in front is a proper hero basically has been shredding his dice on it wicked right then here we go it's just it's outrageous this thing so good job we have that zucchini because this corner here Malcolm is is claimed so many famous drivers up to the front wall will have a bit of a back off here because hits tight as you like through you man this is just nuts this car sounds so good I'm having an out-of-body experience here by the way driving this car up this hill there you go wasn't 540 1.6 seconds but bad days still it's an experience so when you drive there you look at the guys in the shootout on Sunday afternoon and how fast they go and it staggers me yeah how could give their time their driving you know it's not very this is a very wide car one of the things that you might not pick up any watch on telly is it this is a very very narrow driveway you know it is the Dukes drive at the end of the day so some of the big racing cars together lmp1 cause they're white things you know zooming past the flip mauler flat out absolutely remarkable but that was very special we won the windows down there because it's like bacon you gain the southern appreciation for me dude are they are they are heroes absolute heroes but we were at the top now this is my man Jack who was in Mercedes in front you are a drift King it's the karma is the karlon AMG have always been renowned to being a high power rear-wheel drive yet kept taking it back a little bit to the CLK black series it's a perfect car to have some fun with and that's why it's here putting on a bit of show free and say is AMG and it's a pleasure to drive I was gonna do some donuts but got for the drive yeah I think you might just have us you know but right for us right we're just having a big smile on your face and having some fun it makes it powerful readfile wasn't good for tutorial for experience so then the next thing once you get to the top you turn around and then we drive back down again it's obviously far more relaxed coming back down you will get some drivers doing donuts and things I'm sure our friend in the old Black Series see the front probably be laying some some on the road yeah though mega so this bit now we're right at the top of the hill so to the left of where we
