Saying Goodbye to My Mustang

**My Favorite Generation of Mustangs**

As I grew up, my favorite generation of Mustangs was always the ones with fog lights. There's something about them that just stood out to me. My friend Seth seemed like he was still on the fence about buying one, and I thought maybe I could persuade him not to buy it.

"I've got an idea," I said. "Should we go for a test drive? Oh, we can't open up the gate... Oh there it is, actually! Sweet, I'm letting someone else drive my car. Roll those windows okay." In that moment, I realized I'd never actually seen my car drive away from me. "Damn it's a good-looking car!" I thought. "I hope they're being gentle with it."

**A Blast**

"God wow, that was fun! That was a blast," Seth said. Maybe I could talk him out of buying the car? Ah, yes, he loves it! Yeah, maybe I can convince him to keep looking.

"Oh, perfect timing!" my friend exclaimed as a plane flew overhead, which ruined the audio on our recording device. "Who's flying on Wednesday?" we wondered. We had 23 more seconds to come up with a plan to talk Seth out of buying the car.

**A Chance to Test Drive**

"Gentlemen, you had a chance to test drive my car... um, I guess how did it feel? Mmm... felt great, like it felt great," Seth said. "It's one of the roughest riding cars I've ever driven." Trust me, buddy, you don't want to buy this thing!

Maybe I could talk him down on the price? Ah, yes! My asking price was $7,000. Maybe he'd give me an insulting lowball offer and I could tell him to get lost. Would you do 6500? Hmmm... 6500! Who does this guy think he is?

**Nico's Thoughts**

As we continued the test drive, Seth's friend started listing off all the negative qualities of the car, which didn't sit well with me because it was actually a really good car. I thought maybe Nico could convince Seth not to buy it? Ah, yes! The mileage was great, and it drove really well for its age.

**A Difficult Decision**

We finally decided on a price - 6500 dollars. I thought about how synonymous the car had become with me and my life. It was crazy that just selling this thing could be so emotional. Demitri even made me a scale model of the car as it would have looked like in autocross trim.

**A Right of Passage**

I realized that maybe someday later, Seth might regret buying this car. I thought about how maybe that would be my experience too - the moment when you sell a car and maybe later you wish you hadn't sold it. That's just part of being a car enthusiast, right?

We set out to make this video to see if we could get top dollar out of a used car by returning it to its original condition and making it the best shape it'd ever been in. And I think we pulled that off! But as I said goodbye to the old Mustang, I couldn't help but feel sad.

**Farewell**

I remember why I love this thing so much - it's just a blast to drive! Thank you for watching, and see you next time.

WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enall good things must come to an end I bought a new daily well new to me and that means I got to sell the Mustang it's happening and as much as I would love to turn this thing into another sick project car it's not going to happen right now I don't have the space so if I have to sell this car I might as well make a little bit of money here's the game plan a modified car really appeals to a very specific amount of people in some cases one person the person that built it to maximize the price that I can ask from a buyer we have to take it from modified to Dem modified so we're going to put these stock shocks and some lowering springs on it put the stock wheels back on this thing and improve the interior a little bit just refresh the whole look and make it a bit more appealing hopefully all those modifications or Dem modifications that we've made we can get $6,000 for this thing I'm spending all my own money on getting this thing refreshed you know I think like most of you guys watching I tried to turn my daily into a fun not track car but something you could go have fun with on the weekends I did a lot of modifications suspension wise mostly big wide tires on it I put a splitter on it to make the front look a little lower I I put a GT500 spoiler on the back the car is an automatic if it was a manual I'd probably never get rid of it I think it'd be a perfect car I just really can't overstate how much this car means to me so many meaningful trips where my life kind of changed afterwards with this car so it hurts to have to get rid of it there's always other cars out there that you can buy by and right now it just does not make sense for me to hold on to this thing and I got I got to be honest with myself right now it just does not make any sense for me to hold on to this and now that I'm saying all this out loud I I don't know if I want to sell this anymore but I'm not letting that cloud my vision on some of the issues present in this vehicle the vinyl here the glue is like breaking down and has just completely failed I've tried super gluing this a few times that never works otherwise you know this car ridewise very stiff from the coilover that I have installed my fiance hates riding with it but you know what I love it I loved it my fiance likes my my new daily a lot more so got to got to stick with that the most obvious thing that'll help improve the curb appeal of this car is to give it a little wash so let's spray it off all right so the first thing we're going to do is put the stock shocks back in the front end here we're just going to keep the lowering spring that I had on there on the stock shock and put it back in it'll drop it a little bit but it won't look too modded it'll look uh it'll look right you know to the non-expert it'll look just fine all right so we got the BC coilovers out of the car you know come to think of it I think maybe sell these for a good price maybe recoup some of our money here we'll see these are what I had on before I put coilovers on the car I think with the stock wheels it'll look okay deep in the automotive jungle I embarked on a perilous quest to buy and sell cars ancient Whispers spoke of the dangers ahead but then as if by Destiny I found it a phone logged into car gurus the sponsor of today's video I knew this would help guide me every step of the way with just a few clicks I can filter through a ton of options to find exactly what I'm looking for from the most inventory around I have been looking for the right car for ages can you help me no but car gurus can and once you found the right car you can reserve it ahead of time so you don't end up like this guy no matter what you're looking for car gurus has you covered it's no wonder they're the number one most popular car shopping site click the link below and let car gurus guide you on your car buying or selling Journey today one thing that I think really help refresh the look of this car is getting some new headlight and fog light lenses installed as you can see on here mine are pretty faded so now we're going to take the headlights out finally and get the new lenses in it's going to be a game changer I think it's going to look great look at this brand new lens OEM lenses and headlight housings are pretty expensive I think I was able to score this pair for around 200 bucks dude that's worth it that's going to breathe some freaking life into this thing headlights are kind of the eyes into the soul of the car car these ones have glaucoma so oh my God this thing's going to look so good man those look so much brighter now dude dude this thing's going to look sick as hell all right so in my own research when I was looking at sites like Facebook Marketplace and uh Craigslist you know for private sellers cars in this condition with this mileage usually fetch around four to 5 grand at least in Southern California I'm looking at a car right here it has 197,000 Mi it looks like a V6 and they want 2200 bucks for it so let me try to find a a GT here where are you there we go okay so the lowest priced Mustang GT that I could find on auto trader as of right now is a 2006 116,000 Mi for 4,400 bucks that's a pretty good price looks very stock the thing that's killing me right now is the mileage and that being said I've taken good care of this car I think right now it looks very dirty and you can see a few scrapes in the bumper here that's just part of living in La you're going to get tagged once in a while but the rest of the car is very straight and I think because of the state of the paint and the interior I think I can try to get a higher price okay so with the detailer on the way he's really going to revitalize the paint here you can see I mean it's just so dirty pretty bad the paint is really the first impression the first thing that people are going to see and we want them to be wow when they see it in person detail is going to cost me around 300 bucks the last thing I want is to spend that money and not get my investment back all right so the detailing is done the car looks really good I'm again kind of kicking myself that I never treated the car to that while I uh was still driving around then again I don't have a garage so it just get dirty the paint's looking a lot better the blemishes and failing clear coat are a little more apparent now I would say definitely a legitimate negotiating point for the future buyer we also put the stock wheels back on you know I think it's cool in its own way now definitely more stock appearing if you didn't know about the GT500 spoiler on the rear you would just assume that this is a stock car so now it's time to turn our attention to the interior uh we did get it cleaned but these door cards I've been battling this for years oh also while I was cleaning out the interior found two knives found a big bag of junk also $22 that's lunch okay these are uh some door inserts plastic 200 bucks they should fit perfectly blah blah blah check the fit let's just do all that let's just start pair cool I mean dude this is just super easy to pull off see that looks good that looks good all right so this thing is basically done we took off all the mods returned it as close to stock as we could now that it looks like this I'm like do I really want to get rid of it it just looks nicer than it has in years it's a nice car and I think someone can pay 6 or $7,000 and feel like they got a good car cuz it really is it's nice now I truly think that I could ask maybe seven that's like my high and probably take 6,500 or six grand I feel happy about that so let's make some listings for my used wheels and my used coilovers and try to recoup some of the money let me get my spreadsheet out and see how much money we spent so far on this thing the door cards those were $22 headlights and fog lights those were $197 the detail was 250 bucks save some money on those OEM wheels and shocks thank you again Dad right now I'm 650 bucks in the hole so we got to make up that cost and maybe get a little cheddar up top you know what I'm saying I think I can ask 1,000 bucks for my wheels I just want to get rid of those coilovers I don't want have to deal with low ballers I probably just ask a 400 take 300 for them the wheels are listed the coilovers are listed and the car is also listed my heart just dropped a little bit when I said that um so I guess now all we got to do is wait see what comes in all right it's been a couple weeks since you polished this thing and made it stock again kid named Seth uh hit me up he said hey I've already got a couple Mustangs I'd love to buy yours I want a V8 it's from Phoenix he drove out last night the car has been sitting under the cover for the past few days I'm going to go ahead and blow it off and hit it with the mothers real quick let's just do that and then I'll I'll I'll cry later this could be the last time I polished this car so you might be in a position where you think you want a new car but honestly if you just get a good detail what am I even saying here I can't sell this thing what was I thinking is it too late to go back SE likes it will he actually buy it I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little sad about this right now but you know I mean could just not sell it but this guy did just drive all the way from Arizona it's 9:00 right now Seth said he'd be here at 9:30 so in the meantime while we wait for him I was asking $7,000 for the car Seth said he wants to go a little lower than that because of the mileage I understand we'll see how he negotiates but I was able to sell the NK wheels and tires that were on the car for $850 so right now I am 200 bucks in the green my costs for kind of refreshing the car have been covered by the wheels thankfully I still need to sell the coilovers didn't ever find a buyer for those I feel like selling used coilovers and asking a reasonable price is kind of a lost cause especially for a mass Market brand I'm probably going to have to lower the price on those I'm asking 400 probably give them away for 200 bucks so now let's see how much I can get for the car itself I'm a terrible negotiator I've never done this never sold a car so what's up Seth how are you all right this is this is the car here um awesome yeah take a take a look around if you'd like brand new hand Cook Tires awesome KNN intake it's got lowering springs on it that's why it looks a little better than your normal carplay and everything and you can um if I fire it up yeah sure these are my favorite generation of Mustangs I love the fog lights there just this was it for me when I was growing up so Seth seemed like he was still on the fence a little maybe I can persuade him not to buy it I've got an idea should we go for a test drive oh we can't open up the gate oh there it is actually oh sweet I can't believe I'm letting someone else drive my car roll those windows okay and in that moment I realized I've never actually seen my car drive away from me damn it's a goodlooking car I hope they're being gentle with it god wow that was fun that was a blast do I really want to sell this thing maybe Seth hated it maybe he'll lose interest I love it he loves it yeah maybe I can talk him out of it okay so you guys uh planes man perfect timing a plane flew overhead which means we have to pause because it ruins the audio on a Wednesday who's flying on Wednesday I have at least 23 more seconds to come up with a way to talk Seth out of it okay here it goes he's listing off all the negative qualities of the car which I don't really appreciate cuz it's actually a really good car but if Nico can convince Seth not to buy it I'm all ear mileage it drives really well for it though you know what put there 6500 man the the feelings now they're they're here cut the camera it's time to say goodbye to the mold Mustang um I think Seth is going to be a really great Steward of this car you know he works at an oil shop right now but he's going to be going into a trade school and further his education in automotive I think that's really really cool he's going to take care of this thing no doubt but I think it's just kind of lost on me how much of a character of this car has become on the channel you know I mean it it hasn't shown up in a while but you know we made a lot of fun videos with this thing um and I guess because I live with it every single day I didn't really realize how how I don't know it just how synonymous we are me and the car together
