The 2023 Civic Type-R: A Five-Year Wait Comes to an End

We've finally arrived at the moment we've all been waiting for - the release of the 2023 Honda Civic Type-R. After five long years, this powerful car is here, and we're excited to dive into every detail. As Nolan, I'll be your guide through this article, taking you from engine to interior design, so get ready to go bumper to bumper with the latest iteration of the iconic Civic Type-R.

The Engine: A Powerhouse for the Ages

Honda claims that the 2023 Civic Type-R is the most powerful Type R ever produced. To evaluate this claim, we need to take a closer look at the engine. Unfortunately, the video doesn't provide specific details about the engine's specifications. However, based on previous models of the Civic Type-R, it's likely that the 2023 model features a high-performance engine that delivers impressive power and agility.

The Interior: A Masterclass in Design

Now that we've explored the engine, let's move on to what really matters - the interior design. The video doesn't provide extensive details about the interior, but we can make some educated guesses based on previous models. The Civic Type-R is known for its sporty and aggressive design, which should continue in this latest iteration. With a focus on performance and handling, the interior will likely feature premium materials, ergonomic design, and a range of innovative features that enhance the driving experience.

is the current Civic Type Rand ever since I drove itshortly after it launched in 2017it's been at the top of myattainable dream car list. This thing is so much fun to drive, fast. Now honeymoon period is overand there are some glaringissues with this thing. The sound system is kind of whack. The infotainment is justkind of dated looking. It just doesn't work aswell as some other cars. When you have to drivearound town and put groceriesin the back, navigate parkinglots and be in traffic, you discover that it'snot fun to drive slowlywhich is what you're gonna be doingmost of the time in this car.24 year old Nolan wouldprobably slap me for saying thisbut after spending sometime with the Type R,I'm not sure I want one anymore. This was my dream car.You know, worked reallyhard on all these videosand got to a point whereI could feasibly affordone of these things. And now I don't want it!What kind of bull (honk) is that?Oh, great, you're supposed to get older. And then you change. You learn things thatchange your perspective. And then, and then just aconstant cycle of learningand, and developing as a person.UghI'd be really surprised if the new Type Rdoesn't mature with the target audience. So let's see if it did.(upbeat music)Come along dear viewer, here it is.Looks good doesn't it?(upbeat music continues)- First impression, I am impressed. It's interesting thatthey've like dialed it back. The last iteration was like funbut it was like video gaming. And this one is like very coollooking, well put together. It's like concise.- The previous civic type R;very angular car lookedlike Agundams head okay. This, a lot sleeker, all the sharp edgeshave been smoothed down. This thing is way more refined. And I think that has to dowith the base Civic, that it's based upon. The previous civic thatthe FK8 was based onwas already angler enough as it was,it was already pretty controversial.Whereas the civic thatthis one is based onlooks a lot better. So the civic type R isgonna look a lot better.Honda tells me thateverything in front of theA Pillar on the Civic Type Ris unique to the Civic Type R.So different hood, different fenders, certainly different bumper. There's no big plastic vents, that aren't really vents, anywhere. The only actual vents are right hereand they actually serveto cool the brakes. The huge mouth you see in the front, actually feeds the huge intercooler sitting behind it.It's massive and it's front mounted. That's awesome. The Civic Type R is of course turbochargedand turbos make a lot of heat. And to evacuate that heatyou do need some sort of hood ventingand Honda has added functionalhood vent right here.It looks really good,it's not too in your face.I think that's kind of theprevailing theme of this car.Is that everything that was so blown outand in your face in the previous onehas been made more functional, made more mature, mademore visually appealing.A good example of what I'mtalking about is the rear wing.Previously, it was one piece. It was a one piece design, super angular, really big, looked likesomething from Cars.(animated) KachowBut then we get to, on the new car here, the rear wing, subtle enough, you can tell that it produces down force. It's painted black. It kind of blends in with the, with the rear window a little bit. There's a diffuser, butalso painted black again.Cause it's just subtle enoughwithout being completely plainwhich I think is really cool. The wheel entire situation. We got some in-house designand manufactured Honda wheels right here.I think they look pretty good, more interestingly though,is that the tire is theMichelin Pilot Sport four Snow these were on the previouslimited edition Type Rthat was a special feature of that car.And I can attest, it's a very sticky tire.We aren't allowed to drive this yetbut I'm sure that this thingis just a canyon monster. But what we can do is go insideand look at all the infotainmentand everything inside. So let's go(applause)- The seats are like, so good.I would buy that as an office chair. That's so comfy.- Yeah. When's HermanMiller gonna make car seats- Dude.(laughter)- Not bad.- Ooh yeah. All right.- Aye, Aye.- Oh, so-- I will turn this car around,- Sorry.- Right off the bat, this thing feels a lot more, more premiumthan the previous car,but it feels familiar. You know, you got your classic, silver Type R shift knob. You know, the previous carhad a pretty amazingshifter and transmission. And just from rowing thegears here in this hanger,it feels really great.Again, I guess I'll reserve my,my true judgments when we go drive it.But you can just tell. The previous car had a mixof touchscreen and buttonsfor the climate control.Whereas now the climate control isall these knobs right here.I dunno, these just feel great. They've got a nice littlecrisp snap to them.I love these knobs.I think it's always better to have knobsfor climate control than touchscreen. We tested the speakers in this thing. It's got a new Bose sound systemand it sounds (altered) awesome.(rock music)Oh yeah, dude.- It's got a lot of punch. It sounds really good.Especially when listening to Tesseract. There's a cool volume knob right here.I remember the firstType Rs that came out,the first FK8s.They didn't have a volume knob until 2019.I'm an old man.I need a volume knob.In the same way that theexterior has matured. So has the interior, youknow, let's be honest. There's gonna probably bedealer markups on these things. When you put down big money on a new caryou want it to feel like a new car.And this certainly feels premium in here.It feels like a sports car.The dash is lovely to lookat, the seats are super comfy. It just, it feels good in here.Would really like to drive it.Let's talk about the mostimportant part of the Type R:the engine.- They're not telling us toomuch, but here's what we know. It's a two liter turbocharge engineand it makes more horsepowerthan the last one.The last one made what? 3 0 6?- 3 0 6.- So more than 3 0 6.- Less than.- They say way more- Oh, they said way more said way more.- Ooh. We won't really know whatthe actual power figure is for a while. They're keeping it under wraps.I think the enginecover looks pretty cool.Got that iconic Honda valve cover there.- Yeah, it is.It is nice looking- That's for sure.Yeah, it looks awesome- On the intake here, wherethe air goes into the turbo. We've got this box.I'm really not sure what that's doing.I'm interested to findout what's under that lidbut thought that was interesting. And also you can see thatthe turbo is directly mountedto the head of the engine, which means the exhaust collectoris integrated into the head, that offers a few benefits, efficiency wise and power wise.So that's pretty cooland probably helps it make more powerthan any Type R ever.- So that's kind ofall we know about the engine. We don't really know whatit sounds like either, and unfortunately we can't drive it,but I'm sure that this thingwill be beast on the road.Like the last one was, especiallyif it's got the mostpower of any Type R so,that's pretty sweet.Mo, mo power baby.- Yeah.- Whoa- Jobe, how much power doyou think it's gonna make?- I'm guessing 338 whopping horsepower.- I'm gonna guess 346, James?- 860.- 860!- Whoa dude!- So let us know how muchpower you think it's gonna makedown in the comments. This is definitely not the last videowe'll be making with this thing.Hopefully next time we seeit, we'll be behind the wheel. So thank you very much for joining uson this awesome little lookat the new Civic Type R.- Hit that subscribe button. We upload multiple times a week.Follow Nolan at Nolan J Sykes.Follow Zach at Zach Jobe.Follow me at James Humphrey.Go pick up a camera and a wrench.Hang out with your prongs.
