#Tech News - Pebble Watch Unboxing!
# LockerNome Daily Report: Unboxing and Review of the Pebble Smartwatch
## Introduction
Hello, world! It’s Chris Piliero, bringing you another episode of *Locker Nome Daily Report*, or *TLDR* for short—your go-to channel for daily tech news, gadget reviews, and useful insights. Today, I’m thrilled to introduce you to **Pebble**. Whether it’s a he or she, this watch has been a long time coming!
If you haven’t heard of *Vlogger Fair*, make sure to check it out. We’re hosting the event, and we’d love to meet you there. Visit [vlogerfair.com](http://vlogerfair.com) for ticket information—there are two types available, so don’t miss out!
Before diving into the unboxing, I want to share a quick update about the **Spring 2013 Mac Bundle**. You can save an impressive 87% on these apps, and even earn money by referring friends. The link is in the video description if you’re a Mac user looking to save big.
## Windows Phone: A Closer Look
If you think Android or iOS sucks, what about Windows Phone? I’ve been impressed with the **HTC 8X**, but there’s no shortage of options. Check out our list of the top 10 Windows Phone 8 devices on [locker.com](http://locker.com).
The **Nokia Lumia 920** reigns supreme, but I haven’t had a chance to get my hands on one yet. If this isn’t for you, don’t worry—our team has rounded up the best apps for Windows Phone, including **Flicker**, **Metrube**, and **Wikipedia**.
Wait, someone mentioned a flashlight app? I jokingly wondered if eliminating all flashlight apps would leave just five apps per platform. It’s a funny thought, but it makes you realize how many apps are out there!
## Cloud Storage vs. Network-Attached Storage
Still deciding between cloud storage and NAS (Network-Attached Storage)? The pros of local storage include instant access, but the downside is that hard drives can crash. On the other hand, cloud storage offers accessibility from anywhere, though it may not always be secure. For specific recommendations, check out our article!
## NFC: Where’s the Push?
What will it take for NFC (Near Field Communication) to catch on? Apple adopting NFC might help, but it’s a bigger picture involving vendors and standards. Passbook is already a solid solution in software form, making transactions semi-secure without needing hardware support.
## SSD vs. Hard Drive: The Speed Debate
SSD versus hard drive—what’s the verdict? If speed is your priority, go with SSD. It’s fast, and once you experience it, you’ll be hooked. While hard drives offer more storage, SSDs are unmatched in performance.
## Windows Phone FaceTime Alternative
If FaceTime isn’t available for Windows Phone, what can you use instead? Stay tuned—this is the kind of question we love to tackle!

## Pebble Unboxing and Initial Impressions
### Packaging and Setup
The box is simple yet sleek. With a tab to pull, it opens easily (assuming your nails are long enough!). Inside, I found my **Pebble**, along with its charger. I was surprised it didn’t use micro USB; instead, it has a proprietary connection that’s magnetic—though not very secure.
I recommend finding an adapter for micro USB cables since everyone carries those around. Removing the plastic from the box, here’s the watch! No obvious power button, so I started pressing buttons until… success!
### Pairing and Firmware Update
The screen lit up with instructions to install the Pebble app on my iPhone, which I had already done. Opening the app, it prompted me to pair the watch via Bluetooth. Scanning for devices, I found **Pebble E5690**, though the number wasn’t visible on the watch itself.
After confirming pairing, the watch informed me about an available firmware update. It updated quickly, and I liked the clean interface during the process. Rebooting, it showed some fingerprint smudges, but that’s minor compared to its sleek design.
### Customization
The screen was beautiful, with a clean look I really appreciated. The default watch face displayed fuzzy time—“a quarter to four,” for example.
I downloaded new watch faces directly from the app, and “Big Time 12” became my go-to choice. Customize it as you like!
### Functionality
It’s the **geekiest watch** out there—simple, configurable, and lightweight. It even told me I was late for a WordPress webinar!
One feature I’d love to see is a built-in camera for FaceTime calls, but until Apple releases an “eyewear” device, this will do just fine.
## Conclusion
Thanks for sticking with the TLDR team. If you liked this video, give it a thumbs-up, share it with a friend, and don’t forget to subscribe for more tech news and gadget reviews. Follow me on social media for even more content—I’m doing plenty of exciting stuff outside YouTube!
