566HP VOLVO V70R _304KM_H_ REVIEW on AUTOBAHN by AutoTopNL

**A Test Drive with Lars' Monstrous Volvo**

Lars has built an impressive car, and I was excited to get behind the wheel and see if it lived up to its reputation. As we set off, I noticed that the limited slip diff at the front helped to stabilize the car, which is always a good sign. The gearbox, however, was a different story. With only six speeds, shifting can be a bit clunky, especially when trying to get into high gear quickly. It feels like you need to take your time and build up speed before being able to extract more from the car.

Despite this, the car has an old-school feel to it, thanks in part to its massive turbo and turbo lag. This can make it feel a bit sluggish at first, but as soon as you get into gear, it rockets forward with incredible acceleration. The five-cylinder engine also makes a distinctive "bang" sound that's hard to ignore.

One of the features I noticed on this car was the bank mapping system, which allows you to choose how aggressively the engine responds to throttle input. This means that if you're cruising at low speeds, the engine will behave much more normally, but as soon as you floor it, it becomes much more aggressive and explosive.

Unfortunately, our test car's GPS speedo unit, GoPro, was being a bit temperamental during our drive. It kept dying on us, so we had to activate an alternative speedo system called Draggy, which provided a reliable reading of our speed. Despite this hiccup, the car itself performed incredibly well, with the fastest 100-200 kilometers accelerating in just 8.58 seconds - a time that's faster than many modern sports cars.

As we made our way down the road, I was struck by how quickly the Volvo accelerated and responded to my input. It's clear that Lars has tuned the car to be incredibly fast, but also mindful of its old-school roots. The sound system is also noteworthy - the engine sounds like a beast when you put it into gear.

As we took one final lap before stopping for gas, our test driver decided to push on with an overtake maneuver. While this was exhilarating at first, it quickly became apparent that the car's torque steer made it difficult to control. This is just part of driving such a powerful and old-school car, though - you have to be prepared to adapt and adjust.

In conclusion, Lars has built a truly monstrous Volvo that's both incredible to drive and a bit of a handful in certain situations. While the gearbox may feel clunky at first, it's clear that this is a car designed for enthusiasts who want a driving experience unlike any other. And with its incredible acceleration and old-school charm, it's no wonder this car is such a thrill to be behind the wheel.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enwhat's up ladies and gentlemen and welcome to this pov review by autodesk my name is max and today we've got another viewer's car this is lars his volvo v70r from 2004 and lars sent us an email because he watched the 850r review we made and uh in that video i said if you have a similar car a similarly crazy tuned volvo five-cylinder please contact us and he was building this car at that moment and he thought well when it's done i'm definitely going to submit my car uh to out the top now which is awesome i really really love it it is a very cool v70r and today i'm going to show you around it we're going to take a look at all the things lars has done and then we'll take it for a drive towards the ultraman for an ultraman blast so this lars bought it and pretty quickly the engine gave up i think he had a cracked cylinder or something like that so he bought a new engine and decided to build that engine so this now is not a 300 horsepower volvo it is a 566 horsepower volvo and that is a lot of power so let's start at the front because you can see that these headlights are not stock these are actually custom made headlights hid i think it was and they are super bright and white definitely an upgrade over the stock lights i can imagine we've got a little r badge here the v70r got this new grille as well to give it a bit more of a sporty look now the v70r in general was quite an understated car it had those five spoke wheels but of course lars changed the wheel so these are 19-inch wheels with goodyear eagle f1 tires and behind that we've got ap racing brakes so this is a big brake kit 356 millimeter brake discs at the front and we've got eibach lowering springs and um we've also got eibach two and a half centimeters wheel spacers which is a lot and then at the rear we've got the optional rear wing all-wheel drive as you can see and we've got a custom exhaust so at the front we've got a three inch hjs 200 cell downpipe and then we've got a completely custom-made exhaust for this car and that is made by miltek or militech but it has this really cool plaque i i don't think i can show you guys but it has been custom-made for lars and i'll show you a camera shot that i made earlier with that little plaque but that is really really awesome and it sounds super cool of course you've got that five-cylinder growl and then especially with all these mods it sounds wild so uh what do you need to do to bring the power from 300 to 566 i've got a list because it is way too much to remember so we've got the cylinder sleeves forged pistons connecting rods camshafts intake and exhaust valves have been upgraded competition valve springs and then we've got a fuel pump controller a new fuel pump high flow fuel filter pressure regulator fuel rail injector dynamics fuel injectors 1340 cc's and then we've got a bigger turbo borg wagner a wagner intercooler and then as i said we've got all that militech stuff so we've got an intake manifold an exhaust manifold the three inch downpipe and the custom-made exhaust then we also have these arp struts and an upgraded oil pump and we've got an upgraded clutch as well so we've got an x-clutch ceramic twin disc clutch setup and the quave limited slip differential at the front as well and that brings the total to 566 and 651 newton meters of torque so it i mean a lot has happened lars is actually a volvo mechanic so he did all this stuff himself as i said he bought a new engine and then started working on it it took him about a year and a half to do everything and then it took him a week to build everything in to the car so also the suspension and stuff and all the engine stuff which is really really cool i really it's so awesome that someone built this himself i mean of course he's a volvo mechanic so he knows his stuff but still alrighty so the interior we've got a couple of very nice upgrades here as well of course the first thing you notice that carbon fiber custom steering wheel beautiful with a nice little r badge there we've got some carbon foil here on the center console carbon gear lever as well and as you can see it's the manual v70r now we've also got the cool orange brown interior which i really like i think this is so cool especially with that flash green that weird light green color you could get on the exterior and with combined with this it was such a weird combo but really awesome so let's start it up now we've got uh these three buttons right here which normally would be for the chassis settings but now a couple of different things have been linked to it one of which is the mapping and another one is the exhaust so if we hit advanced the valves open and it sounds properly made especially with that little bang that you get when you hit 3000 rpm okay so we've got that twin plate ceramic clutch which makes it a little bit delicate to operate and then we've got that all-wheel drive system which has a hold x system which means that it's basically front-wheel drive until it needs to send power to the rear so when it loses traction but that does mean that you still have you still have quite a bit of torques there and i think lose traction as well oh my god that that turbo lag is hilarious there it goes it's like 5000 rpm plus i think even five and a half thousand rpm that's when the turbo kicks in it is quite a massive turbo oh that's a big turning circle as well man alrighty so it's a bit wet started raining when we wanted to do the review so we'll find out how much traction it actually has okay so traction control is off now oh but it sounds so good that five cylinder i love fast volvos they sound so distinct so yeah when the turbo spools up it is a very very fast car but it does take a while for you to realize how fast it actually is uh that all-wheel drive system does seem to work pretty well because we don't really have a little bit little bit but not too not too bad so it seems to be working well and of course we've got that limited slip diff at the front as well to help us out now the gearbox i have to say the manual the six speed is quite horrendous the the shifting i mean it's very difficult to shift quickly it feels a bit i don't know clunky it's a bit of a clunky gearbox and i think it it just takes a while for you to get used to driving this car and be able to extract more from it i think you know we've been driving it for like 10 minutes and uh i think you need to drive it for a couple of hours to be able to really take it for a drive oh but it is very very quick it feels very old-school because of that massive turbo and turbo lag that comes with it it feels really old-school of course with that five-cylinder really like that little bang as well so the banks have also been mapped to the cruise control button so you can actually choose if you want those banks or not so if i hit the cruise button and i let off the throttle nothing happens or at least not as much but there's a lot going on you have to pay attention which i like alrighty oh it's so explosive when you get when you get up there it it completely changes at low rpm it feels sluggish and then at higher rpm it's just and then at higher rpm there we go so okay so gopro this is a freaking horrendous product okay it just keeps dying on us we've got 35 battery and it just doesn't work so we're going to activate draggy so we have a gps speedo very reliable draggy always works top right corner gopro sucks gopro sucks you get a 10 discount on your draggy available in our store right now go check it out top right corner or directly below the video connecting okay so drag is over there you you guys have a speedo now here we go so this really is a much better place for this car than that stupid b road i mean it's got some long legs this car it moves that is quick so the fastest 100 to 200 we measured was actually 8.58 seconds which is seriously quick it's quicker than an audi rs6 quicker than a bmw m4 quicker than a mercedes amg c63 and that is 300 kilometers an hour in a volvo i don't think i've ever done this before that is absolutely mental that is insane holy moly lars you've created a monstrous volvo this is insane the way it just kept pulling over oh man that is impressive i was totally not expecting that oh man that is insane what a way to start the year fourth gear oh it is seriously quick oh my god what an awesome car i love these quick volvos they they're a bit clunky and they're not the most smooth and easy cars to operate but man they sound awesome and the power delivery is just so exciting it's so much better than new cars i every time i drive these older cars i'm like okay everything that basically everything that's good is behind us and this just confirms that and of course this has been built by lars into this insane oh man this is fifth gear that is it's 200 kilometers an hour and the thing just goes absolutely catapulted that is really awesome man that's impressive it's a good thing that we got the gps speedo out anyway because otherwise you guys wouldn't be able to see it because the speedo only goes to 260. so i guess that's a good thing at least the gopro knew gopro sucks hate it hahaha oh man what an awesome build i mean it feels like you have to like handle it you have to catch it when it goes because it still has quite a bit of torque steer all right so fourth gear 85 kilometers an hour i'll put my foot down three two one and there we go so that's actually how long it takes for it to spool up and deliver its true performance alright so let's do one last pool before the gas station all right so unfortunately this truck decided that overtaking would be a great idea um so i'm going to end it here lars thank you so much for taking your car to us you have built an awesome awesome volvo it's a bit clunky to drive but holy moly it takes off it is really quick and it feels awesome at speed so really good job thank you so much for taking it to us it has been my absolute honor to drive it and uh well i hope you enjoyed this video to you guys thanks for watching hope you enjoyed it you can
