Are you the next Hasselblad Master!

It's something that I want to do where you actually go out and handwrite in a journal take pictures on film make it old school make it analog it's really cool couple other things I want to point out do know another thing that I really like is the range of work that you have in here we go from more conventional shots to landscapes to some things that I would expect to see in here but then these bizarre unexpected things like the skeleton fishing from the lawn chair uh this is really interesting and very well done and so I will link this up below

I want to mention something else too because this wraps up in the beautiful state of Arizona and I'm really actually interested in seeing your other two books uh because I think this is interesting one of the things that I discovered oh gosh a couple years ago was 2017 I had never been to Arizona grew up in the United States been all over but I'd just never been to Arizona for some reason and I was invited out for a trip I did some videos on that and if you're interested link them up somewhere but uh anyway when I went on that trip I had never been to the Grand Canyon never been to Arizona I went to Flagstaff but I flew in and out of Phoenix and it's really amazing that when you go up that road it is one of the most beautiful places in this entire country and that's just Highway 17 and then you get to explore and you realize it gets even better than that and uh I strongly recommend everybody thinks they have to go somewhere exotic when they want to go shoot something you have to go to Iceland or you know and as a result everybody goes to those places and this is one of the Hidden gems of the United States I believe anyway I love thank you for sharing this is awesome all right next up is the Easter Island project this is really awesome

this comes to us from James Craig who lives in Marland and this is called I'm not going to attempt the uh the actual language here but in English the moon has been eaten I want to read something from the inside of this book here that'll give you some context it says the images in this volume are the end product of over a year on Easter Island and well over 20,000 exposures the plan was simple maroon ourselves for a year on the most isolated bit of inhabited land on the planet where I would amass a portfolio of black and white images while my wife painted why Easter Island

I wish I could claim that the project or the images themselves and all that turned out so well for both of us sprang up from some telling Insight or purpose on my part but that wouldn't reflect the true nature of art or life for that matter the reality is is that most art as many of life's defining moments is rooted in the Lesser wisdom that accommodates accident or something that could be best described as saying well it seemed like a good idea at the time

we wanted a major art project one that would lend itself to both my black and white photography and my wife's painting one way to accomplish this would be to put our lives on hold and take up to a year focusing on a specific subject or location totally immersing ourselves in our art possibly away from home instead of treating this as a fantas notion it became a thread to pick up and follow

we eventually agreed after my initial project outline met with rejection that would present Nan with a dozen destinations of which she would choose or not because I saw so much potential in a couple of proposals at the top of my list I was having a great deal of trouble reaching the required number most of which I can't remember in a fit of desperation I distinguished added two random but plausible ideas that came to mind

the final totally not serious scribbling spend a year on Easter Island so James this project is particularly impressive and I have to say hats off I've always wanted to go to a place like Easter Island which obviously as you know is very remote and very difficult to get to and it's one thing just to go there and take some images and it's another thing to do total complete immersion for a year and I think that's really awesome

that you guys did that and I think it shows in the work you know I typically think of Easter Island as just being the crazy sculptures that you see in pictures everywhere and it's way more than that and uh this book is really awesome so I will link up to this as well as everything else in the show description below

so make sure you support your colleagues James thanks for sharing this is quite awesome he has copies of these left by the way and I will catch you guys in the next video

which reads dear Ted Forbes you are the only YouTube photography Channel I trust as a student at USC film school I used to talk to Ralph Gibson and I was planning on doing a documentary on him in 2015 shooting playing cards here I gift you my Zen and the first to my knowledge photo book in playing card format I know you will get the box a play on Rodell I now live in Austin let's get coffee someday Ted I'm a huge fan your friend Brad Fulton Brad mentions in the back here that this entire book was shot on a Leica M7 using Trix film and Brad this is fabulous I don't think I've ever seen anything like this this such a unique Niche that you got and I love the photographs I see the Ralph Gibson influence although I don't think you look like him at all I think you've taken this an entirely New Direction I love the gestures with the hands and the cards I love the grit and the graininess of all these images this is a really unusual book and I'm very impressed I I don't think I've seen anything like this ever very good job my man this is uh really quite terrific I also really like how you portray Motion in here with some of these blurry images anyway Brad it's good to meet you interesting coincidence that Ralph Gibson comes up in two books in a row here because this comes to us from a gentleman named David Kamar who I met when I did a workshop with Ralph Gibson a while back on bookmaking uh this is a really cool book called in the footsteps of Alfred and it is conceptual and I'll expl here he includes a note which reads dear Ted I hope that this finds you well I'm not sure if you'll remember me but we met during the Ralph Gibson bookmaking workshop and I am thrilled to learn of your upcoming series you're doing with him on your YouTube channel since seeing you at the workshop I've been meaning to send you a copy of my first book this was done before the workshop and tell you how much I appreciate your channel thank you for all that you do best regards David So as you may have gathered from the title here what David's doing is he's done a conceptual book and this is a really cool idea based on places that Alfred Saget shot in in fact in the last page of the book there's a little map with a guide here showing you where things were and some context over here this is very well done David I'm very impressed I love the black and white uh look that you've got throughout it's very clean uh it's very reminiscent and a nice tribute to Alfred stiglets but without being Alfred stiglets you definitely put your own mark on here I love the quotes in here it's a really cool concept actually um I think that it's this would be the kind of project where it would be really easy to go through and try to retake shots that maybe the Past Masters had done cuz I've seen a lot of that and I really like your approach on here and actually just imposing your own personality and your own take on photography but that's the glue that holds This Together anyway excellent job my man this is really awesome so I'll link up to David's book below if you guys are interested uh this is very unusual I haven't seen anything like this in a while either so uh this this is a this is a good book day today we we've got some really awesome stuff here I mean they usually are but uh this is unusually exciting so anyway David thank you for sending this is awesome I've got includes a note which reads dear Ted okay I know it's big but hear me out there's a story behind it 47 rolls of 120 film in 27 days in the open road up the west coast and back down to my home state of Arizona to preface HOV is the finale in my series of three books including my first two Heatwave and high and dry with the first two being solely based upon the weird mysterious and abandoned places of Arizona I felt it was necessary to wrap up the series by showing the skills that I built here being put to the test in a variety of different places whilst being out in my comfort zone traveling alone on the open road I made it a point to wrap up every day with the trip with a journal entry either about what I did or how I felt internally that day I think that these journal entries give great context to the photos within I hope this book book finds you well and I hope to hear your thoughts on it please let me know if you made it all the way through there are some messages in the journals about my grandparents that I believe are truly impactful thanks for your time your channel and been a subscriber for years now dino Jagger III Dino this is fabulous I really like what you're doing here I love the whole idea of making this a journal another thing that I want to point out actually a couple things I want to point out to people in here that I really like first of all I love the fact that this is treated like on the road it's one thing when people will do books and I see a lot of these where their pictures of places and whatnot and it's a journey that they've taken but you've included all these behind thes scenes shots of the car of the road and it really personalizes that quite a bit I think this combined with the handwriting for the text and the whole idea of journal entries this is something that I really want to see more people do it's something that I want to do where you actually go out and handw write in a journal take pictures on film make it old school make it analog it's really cool couple other things I want to point out do know another thing that I really like is the range of work that you have in here we go from more conventional shots to Landscapes
