**A Long and Honest Review of Killzone: Shadow Fall**
I'm really liking the trophy system a lot and the fact that I'm playing through the game a second time, which should tell you something. Yes, there are tons of Collectibles you can collect comic book pages, you can collect audio logs, which actually play through the speaker only on dual shock 4 - this is pretty sweet, in my opinion. And basically, if you're into collecting or just getting the trophies, Killzone: Shadow Fall in a nutshell is definitely worth playing through for at least a second time.
I know I'm probably getting annoying with how long this review is going to be, but the next gen visuals are just so glad we've reached that point in console gaming. As well as the unique use of the touchpad and light bar - these are something I really liked a lot. Now, let's talk about the multiplayer. The multiplayer is definitely better than I expected, it's not something I'm going to get addicted to like I used to do in Call of Duty or Battlefield. It's just not that kind of in-depth gameplay, but for what it is, Killzone: Shadow Fall's multiplayer is not bad at all.
Okay, so granted, I've only played a few matches, and I haven't played enough to truly give my perfect opinion on whether the multiplayer is worth it. As of right now, it seems enjoyable enough to keep me busy until I get my Xbox One this Friday and can start playing games like Forza and Dead Rising 3 - as well as future PlayStation 4 games, of course.
But there's one very important thing that I would like to point out about Killzone: Shadow Fall multiplayer - the fact that there's no voice chat. What this is - just speechless - it blows my mind how a launch title for the PlayStation 4 - especially the console with a freaking headset - is included in the box and doesn't support voice chat. I mean, isn't half the fun of playing online, meeting new people, and kind of trash talking here and there? Of course, it's so - but honestly, a bad way.
Now, with that said, I have seen reports of kills on Twitter saying that they will be adding voice chat in the future. But still, I just have to ask - why the hell wasn't it there from day one? This is 2013 guys, no excuses whatsoever. Okay, so finally wrapping up my Killzone: Shadow Fall review. Is it worth it? I would say yes. I mean, if it's for the next gen visuals alone and that feeling of playing a next-gen game - I would say it's more than worth it.
I really got to stress this, I know I'm probably getting annoying at this point, but Killzone: Shadow Fall is definitely enjoyable enough to play through. And again, I really got to stress this - if you're into collecting or just getting the trophies, Killzone: Shadow Fall is worth playing for those reasons alone.
Well, guys, that's it. That's my review of Killzone: Shadow Fall. I'm not great at reviewing games - I love playing them, but I just kind of talk. So, if you want to take this as a review, then so be it. But either way, I do hope you guys enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed making it.
Also, I should mention that this is actually my first Killzone game ever, so I'm actually really glad I made it my first PS4 game ever - it's kind of The Best of Both Worlds entering a new console entering a new franchise. So, it was pretty fun all right guys, I'm finally done, and I could talk about this stuff for hours but I hope you enjoyed my review and stay tuned for tomorrow's video email not tomorrow's email that's my own email - stay tuned for tomorrow's video which is all about the Xbox One unboxing. I cannot wait to share that experience with you guys.
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enthis PlayStation 4 coverage is brought to you by appin docomo by downloading and rating apps be sure to check it out using the link below hey guys who are you David DeFranco here from DeFranco gaming.com with my first ever PlayStation 4 game review and that is of Killzone shadowfall little flippity flip there now before I get into this video two things guys number one I love gaming obviously but I got to be honest I'm not good at reviewing them so while this is titled A Killzone review think of it as more as David Rambles about stuff he likes and dislikes that could be considered a review yes but I'm not going to go too in depth regarding the storyline and anything like that but I will talk about Graphics you know the visuals the sound design the gameplay mechanics the controls everything just not the plot cuz I didn't really care for the plot that much to be honest and number two you will notice the gameplay footage shown throughout this video was literally recorded using my camcorder because as of right now I don't have my PlayStation 4 hooked up to my monitor because that's not really convenient for my setup and two I just don't have an extra PlayStation 4 at least not yet okay so with those two disclaimers out of the way let me review Killzone shadowfall my only PlayStation 4 game as of right now because I got to be honest there's nothing else on the PlayStation 4 right now that just makes me want to go out and buy it like like you know without even thinking and I'm talking about exclusives I'm not talking about multiplatform titles like Battlefield 4 Call of Duty ghost and Assassin's Creed 4 all those games look great and Ne for Speed Rivals so that's all I'm getting at is well there's not really that many exclusives for the PS4 except for like Indie titles and Killzone shadowfall as well as Knack all right so finally getting into the review let me talk about the story of Killzone shadowfall now like I said I'm not big on story at least with this game I didn't really care for it much I kind of just played to enjoy the game for what it is the gameplay mechanics and just overall have a good time so instead I'm going to go to the oldfashioned roots and just read this story uh the plot line that I got from Wikipedia starting now the game takes place in 2390 as tensions between the vetcon vet vet Tans I don't even know how to say that and Hell Gast reach a boiling point Lucas the main character who let himself be captured by the hell Gast during an investigation escapes during a botched prisoner exchange involving a half Helgen agent codenamed Echo he is ordered to return to the Helgen side of the wall in order to wipe out any trace of another vssa operation there so like I said the story isn't that exciting I didn't really care for the characters all that much everything was just kind of meh but the game as a whole in terms of the fun factor and the enjoyment it was pretty great so starting out let me talk about visuals guys Killzone shadowfall I have no doubt in my mind when saying this is truly a next gen experience at least in the visuals Department this game is downright beautiful I will never ever forget the screenshot I took of this guy in the beginning and his facial expression and he's looking at me and he has his true look of concern on his face but not only that but the environmental effects on his face just look amazing such as the Shadows hitting him just right the lighting effects the raindrops dripping down his face it was so lifelike and that right there gave me so much faith in the PlayStation 4 because I had yet to experience anything on that kind of visual level of detail before the PlayStation 4 came into my life and that right there is something I really appreciated so not only are the facial animations amazing but the textures are sharp as hell lighting effects are just amazing think hello 4 lighting effects that's another game I really enjoyed on the 360 the lighting effects just looked amazing but they look even better in Killzone shadowfall the light glistening off your gun or even just indoor lighting effects just like you know that Michael Bay effect it just looked phenomenal and yes it is running in a beautiful 1080p resolution at 60 frames per second for the most part with a slight dip to 30 frames here and there but nothing ever affected gameplay performance okay so now let's talk about sound design Killzone shadowfall really doesn't disappoint starting out is the great soundtrack my notes I kind of explain it as it's a mix of techno and sci-fi mixed into some kind of like eargasm experience or eargasmic experience that's probably the better way of saying that but that is the truth guys I mean it really was a good soundtrack now it's obviously not an amazing soundtrack up there with like Star Wars or any other movies out there but I got to say for a video game soundtrack it was definitely impressive but of course that does not stop at just the soundtrack The Sound in general was pretty good the gun sound effects sounded awesome the sound of the alarm sounding not to sound redundant but that's what it is that just sounded amazing I love knowing an enemy could run up to the alert you know the little alarm station set up the alarm and when you hear that noise you're pretty much screwed until you get your alow to deactivate or Hack That Alarm and just hearing that said sound it was just a cool feeling I mean I love sounds I love the whole dubstep genre of music so that should kind of give you an idea of sound effects that I really appreciate and finally surround sound it's pretty freaking spoton right in the beginning of the game in the rear Left Channel you're here in Enemy talking and it just sounded great I love surround it never gets old whether it's movies video games or music surround sun is something that should never ever be overlooked because in my opinion it makes that immersive experience that much better wrapping up my thoughts on the sound Department I wouldn't call it the best sounded game ever but it was definitely impressive enough to you know talk about it in this video but I wouldn't put it on the scale of something like say Battlefield 3 or Battlefield 4 because I love the sound effects in Battlefield 4 at least from the beta that I played a month or two ago but then again Killzone Battlefield to completely different experiences so maybe it wasn't my best choice to compare the two all right let's talk game Play Because without good game play well a game's just not fun right of course nothing about it really stuck out at me besides the insane visual effects I'm so blown away by the facial animations and the lighting effects that they actually pulled off in this game they're just amazing but the game play while it's nothing unique like I said or nothing astoundingly fun it is enjoyable enough to play through at least once all right so moving on in the gameplay mechanics Department melee kills guys I got to give Gilla games a quick shout out the the melee kills are just so much fun they're very rewarding there's just something so great about sneaking up behind an enemy and either slitting their throat cracking their neck or just anything like that now of course this goes for any game I mean who doesn't enjoy a good stealth kill but I got to say Killzone shadowfall pulls it off beautifully and this is especially true if you happen to be near a ledge I mean if you do a melee kill then push the body off the ledge it's very satisfying now I will say as fun as Killzone shadowfall is certain missions I definitely found extremely annoying there is this one mission where you're kind of in this spaceship some kind of device or vehicle or whatever and you have to get from one side of the map to the other and you go so freaking slow and enemies upon enemies keep coming out and then eventually you're at the end and you'll be thanking the world that it's over because I got to say I didn't really enjoy that portion of the game at all however I got to say one department where gorilla gains really shines in the gameplay departments besides the whole melee kills thing is making excellent use of the dual shock 4 I'm loving this controller starting with the touchpad you have this thing in the game called the owl which is basically a robotic flying technical assistant whatever you want to call it where it basically helps you throughout the game through a variety of ways and this is where it gets really cool you SW swipe up to attack you swipe right to get your zipline out you swipe down for shield and you swipe left for stun and then once that's selected you press L1 to send the owl in and do its job and that is something I really enjoyed about Killzone and that portion never got old but of course it does not stop there while this next feature might not be revolutionary it's something I did find myself fascinated by and that's the fact that Killzone shadowfall does take decent well gimmicky use of the light bar I quote gimmicky because I don't think it's gimmicky but it may appear gimmicky to you getting into details Killzone shadowfall uses the light bar to basically reflect your health so if you're healthy it'll light up a nice big vibrant well not big a bright vibrant green but if you're sick and practically dying on your deathbed then it's going to light up a bright very bright saturated red that was really cool now some of you may be thinking and this is is actually my thought going into the PlayStation 4 experience as a whole before I actually used it you might be thinking well the light bar is here and I'm playing like this so how the heck am I going to see the color of the light bar if I'm concentrating on the game well I am happy to say the light actually is bright enough to reflect off of your index fingers which might not seem like a big deal but again it's something I really did like a lot and I actually found myself looking down at my fingers to see how truly sick I was in this game and well that's pretty much it I mean like I said Killzone doesn't really take true advantage of the light bar in any kind of revolutionary way but for what it does it's something I did enjoy very much and what's really cool about this is well this is just the beginning the light bar is just the beginning in a game like Killzone and I recently bought the Playstation 4 camera or just simply called the PlayStation camera so I'm very very much looking forward to seeing how these game developers take advantage of the camera interacting with the light bar all right moving on to the final portion of the review let's talk about replay value now I am happy to say that Killzone shadowfall has enough replay value and enjoyment to make you want to play through it a second time one because it's short you can beat it in a matter of 24 hours if you really dedicate yourself or maybe even like 6 seven or 8 hours if you really know what you're doing and you don't get stuck in any places but for me personally I played through it again for two reasons number one there's really no other exclusive PS4 games that I really want to buy right now except for Knack but I'm still kind of on offense about that and number two I'm just playing it through the hard difficulty this time around purely because I want that trophy like I said in the past video I'm definitely an achievement hor when when it comes to the Xbox 360 and sooning the Xbox one but now that I'm in love with my PS4 I've gotten quite serious about getting a lot of trophies I mean I'm not going for the platinum trophy that's near impossible in a game like Killzone because one of the trophies I believe requires you to play through the game without dying once and that's just not going to happen but still guys I am really liking the trophy system a lot and the fact that I'm playing through the game a second time that should tell you something and yes there are tons of Collectibles you can collect comic book pages you can collect audio logs which actually play through the speaker only dual shock 4 which I thought was pretty sweet and basically if you're into collecting or just getting the trophies Killzone Chad toall in a nutshell in my opinion is definitely worth playing
