As Asher lived in a beautiful apartment in Paris, France, together with his family, they welcomed a new neighbor into the other apartment on his floor. Asher and his son Yeshua watched as they brought in beautiful gold furniture, expensive drapes, paintings, and magnificent rugs. "Wow! It looks like a king is moving in!" Yeshua said with a smile. The new neighbors were an older couple who kept to themselves once Asher met the man in the hall and they spoke.
"I'm from Morocco," the man explained. "I'm the stepfather of the king of Mao when the old king died, his son became the king. I married the new king's mother, and we moved here to Paris. My wife and I like our privacy; the king sometimes comes secretly to visit his mother." Asher was curious about meeting the king, so he asked his neighbor if he could meet him again. A few months later, Asher's neighbor told him that the King was there and Asher could come.
Asher brought his son Yeshua with him, and as they entered the apartment, they were greeted by a friendly voice. "Hello! How old are you?" the king asked Yeshua. Yeshua replied, "I'm 13." The king asked if it was a special age for Jewish boys, to which Yeshua answered, "We read from the Torah that at 13, we put on tefillin and have a party and get special gifts." The king spoke with Asher and Yeshua for a little longer and then said goodbye. The next day, the king's servant rang Asher's doorbell, saying, "The King wishes to see you and your son."
Asher was invited into the apartment, where he and his son were greeted warmly by the king. The king handed Asher an envelope and told him, "This is a gift for your bar mitzvah. Please open it." Yeshua opened the envelope, pulled out a check, and almost fainted from shock. Asha rushed over to read the check, which was for $50,000. "There's no need for such a large gift," Asher said. The king looked at them seriously when he said, "A king does not give gifts like a regular person. A king gives gifts that are Fit For A King." He explained, "Hashem, who is the greatest King, calls shabas a good present. One thing is for sure, if Hashem, who is the greatest King, calls shabas a good present, then we can be sure that shabis is far more precious than we can ever imagine."
