The Joy of Making Leggings: A Beginner's Guide

Hey guys, so it's finally cold enough in Houston where I can finally bust out all of my leggings all of my cute socks and all of my cute hats. I really do miss cold weather, uh when I lived in Nebraska even if it was like negative below zero or something. I would still be wearing leggings like I would not like to wear jeans whatsoever. To me, there's a whole science thing to back up the reason why leggings are warmer than jeans. But I'll go into that like some other time.

A few weeks ago, I grabbed a pattern from Joann's where it was just basically how to make leggings. I already know how to make a basic pair of pant, and I already know how to make leggings, but I just wanted a pattern because I didn't want to mock up my own pattern so I bought it, and it was 99. A lot of you guys have requested for me to make the video on how to put together the pattern so I made a few pair of leggings, and they're really cute.

These are socks this one right here is like polka doted uh it's really fun, really simple, just looks like a simple pair of pant. Um, made on some kind of stretch knit of some form. I should have used black elastic but I didn't have any, but it doesn't matter no one's going to look up there anyways. So the elastic is going to be put in like this very Pro looking um you're going to hem the bottom pretty basic, you know if you know how to make a pair of pants you can make a pair of leggings pretty easy.

First cut out two leg pieces for the leggings fold right sides together and pin keep in mind that one of the slope near the crotch will be lower than the other this is to give it room for your booty. Okay, now sew the in seams try to sew two lines of stitching or use a twin needle since these are leggings you want extra reinforcement from the Stitch turn the other leg to the right side and match up the crotch seams this is what you are going to get go ahead and do a double Stitch here as well.

Turn everything inside out and hem the bottom legs with a zigzag Stitch to keep the stretch, take about a 3/4 to 1 in wide elastic measuring your hips and butt the ends with a zigzag Stitch. Okay, directly across where the budding just happened make a mark with a pen now match that Mark to the Stitch and Mark in between the two this is a guide to help you sew on an elastic the buted part will be matched up to the back seam of the pants.

The first Mark directly across the buted part will be matched to the front seam of the pants, the two marks in between the two will match the sides of the pants. This method gives you a much more professional finish and I feel it's a lot easier than sewing on an ugly casing at the very edge of the elastic and the fabric. So, now fold the elastic inwards and double Stitch right on the Edge from where you made the zigzag Stitch.

And that's basically it, I bought the mall's pattern and the number and the website will be linked on the bottom if you want to buy the same pattern that I'm using um this way you don't have to worry about sizing or anything like that. And yeah, it's fun, I think from now on I'm probably going to use pattern patterns more often to make the clothing that I want to make. This way, you guys could go out grab the patterns do what I do and then I'll teach you some like shortcuts and tips and tricks too cuz patterns are really hard to read especially if you're a noob.

Um, this is beginner's level so it's super easy and anyone could do this. I like whipped up four leggings within like an hour not even probably four to five minutes like I so really fast and that's my weakness. So, yeah, so I hope you enjoyed the video, I know it's a pretty basic tutorial because it's fall and I kind of just want to get it out of the way and yeah.
