can buy todaywith the most horsepowerfor the least amount of the dollars. And I'm gonna let you guys know. While we were putting together this listwe actually learnedabout how car companieswere able to make these carswith really good horsepower for so cheap. So we're learning togetherand this show is called--- "D-List".So before we get started,in order to prove what great valuesthe cars on this list are,I'm gonna hit you withthe dollar to horsepowerof a really good super car.Let's take the McLaren 765LT.It's got a four-liter V8making 755 horsepower. Now that's great, but here's the thing. The McLaren costs $358,000.If we divide the price of the carby the amount of horsepower it has,it turns out that you're paying $474for every horsepower. And just so we get it out of the way,we average costfor a recreational horsein America is $3,000.So already, we've already decidedthat cars are a much bettervalue for power than horses. We're only 35 seconds into the video.- Number 11.Toyota 86.- I know you're outthere and you're saying"James, I thought this wasa list of rad powerful cars."And the 86 is famously underpowered."I know but hear me out. This car is actually aninsane good value turns outwhen you really start to think about it.Now the 86 is poweredby a naturally aspiratedSubaru-designed dual overhead cam flat-4with an injection systemthat developed by Toyotajust for this car. That combination produceda solid 205 horsepowerwhich is not bad for a carthat weighs less than 3,000 pounds. With a starting price of around 27 grandthe 86 has a dollars per horsepower figureof $132 per horsepower. Now if you can share a platformyou can significantlyreduce the development cost. That allows them to passon the savings to you.- Number 10.Corvette C8.- The eighth gen Corvette isthe hottest drop to come out of Detroitin this whole century. Finally, a Corvette with a mid enginerear-wheel drive layout. The car some people arecalling a Ferrari killerhas a new version of the LT2 V8.Its 6.2-liter displacement producesan astounding 490 hrsprs.I got to remind you guysthis is in the base, base, base model, model, model. There's a bunch of otherreally, really cools onescoming out very soon. That awesome output and thealmost unbelievable priceof $59,000 give the C8 Corvettea figure orf $122 per horsepower. What's amazing hereis that despite having to developan entirely mid engine platform,Chevrolet had managed to keep the priceright, absurdly low.So how did they do that?Well, the C8 platform will be usedin an expanding future lineup. That way they can spreadthe development costsacross not only the currentmodels but future onesand offset the cost to the buyers now. There's even rumors that Chevroletcould do what Ford didwith the Mustang badgeand develop the Corvettebadge as its very own brand, with a Corvette sedan and SUV.Which I really honestly hope that theydo not do.What is a pirate's favorite car?- Number nine.Civic Type R.- For the current Civic Type R,which Honda launched in 2017,they used the platform fromthe 10th generation Civic. And that's the beauty of makingall hot hopped up versionsof an existing model. And Honda has been doingthis really, really wellfor as long as I can remember.Making super revvy, super fun engines is alsoHonda is very good at.So for this generation of Type R,they just used theengine from the last one.Easy, boom, done.If it ain't broke don't frickin' fix it.(dog barking)Hi.306 horsepower in a hatchback is amazing, especially when it costs about $36,000.If you do that math, forall math boys out there, that's 122 bones per hrspr. And besides, for generations the Civic Type Rhas been known as one of thebest driver's cars available.I've driven one and I absolutely loved it.More than any other care thanI've been allowed to drive, this thing felt likea frickin' video game.It is a really, really good car.And apparently a tonof people agree with me'cause the demand forthese things is so insanethat people regularlypay over MSRP to get one. That make's this boy's value even better.- Number eight.Hyundai Veloster N.- This is Nolan's favorite non-Dodge car.The Veloster N has been winning awardsand changing the way thatpeople think about Hyundai'ssince it dropped in 2019.This beast from the east with three doorsstarted life as an only kind of sportyweird-looking but fun-lookingeconomy hatchback, before being tuned by Hyundai'sin-house performance brand Nheaded up by none other than the fatherof the BMW M car, Albert Biermann. Now Uncle Al brought aload of BMW M car insightto the Veloster.First he saidthat the car had cost less than 30 grand, which it does. It's $29,500.Second, Biermann and the N divisionbut a huge focus not just on raw power, but on the chassis and the handling. The results are plain to see, with the Veloster Nperformance able to lay downits 275 hrsprs and pull fromzero to 60 in 5.5 seconds. That is .1 seconds slowerthan a Civic Type Rand the Civic Type R costs$6,000 more than that. That's smart. The Veloster N has been described asthe antidote to boring modern carsby none other than me.And with a per horsepowerprice of $107 per hrsprs,it's a straight up steal.- Number seven.Camaro ZL1.- The Chevy Camaro ZL1 has 650 hrsprs. And it costs 63,195 doll hairs. That's only $97 per hrspr. And just so you guys know, this isn't the only Camaro on the list. There's a couple more and one of themis gonna surprise the heck out of you,and it surprised the heck out of me.The ZL1 raises a larger point. There are two distinctgroups of cars emerging.Cars that have an insaneamount of horsepowerfor their $60,000-ish price tagand cars that have modest horsepowerbut a lot less cost.Either way, from now on expect to seea ton of good old American muscle.- Number six.Ford Mustang Shelby GT500.- There's really no other way to say this. This is the quickestfactory Mustang ever built. No expense has been sparedin taking the stock Mustang, which itself is an awesome car,and then turning it up to freaking 11.Freak that, dude, they turned it up to 12!The supercharged versionof the 5.2-liter Mustang V8revs to 7,500 RPM and puts its power downthrough a seven-speeddual clutch automatic. These are words that wenever thought we'd be sayingabout a factory Mustang. Now just like the Camaro ZL1that we mentioned before. This isn't the highestMustang on the list, but it still deserves a place becauseit is the highest horsepowervehicle on this list. How much horsepower? How many hrsprs?760, dude. And with a price of $72,900that means that you can buy760 hrsprs for $95 each.- Number five.Nissan 370 Z.Now this is the lastnon-American car on this list.Something that I'm kindof proud of honestly.I mean, yeah. But it's also a car that Ireally, really, really like. It's just an awesome car.332 horsepower from a legandary V6.A perfectly balanced chassis.Form the hairpin to thesweeper to the straightaway, nothing else feels like a Z.Those are not my words. That is from Nissan's website. These are my words starting now.The Nissan 370 Z is truly a legend.I mean, literally, they'vebeen making this car 11 years, basically without changing anything. And you might think thatthis is another caseof a car company sharingcomponents across its fleet. It makes sense to assumethat the parts from the 370 Zwere carried across from its older sister, the 350 Z.But you're wrong.Almost every part for the 370 Zwas designed newspecifically for that car.I'm talking new aluminum paneling, new aluminum sub frames, new aluminum allow enginecradle (murmuring).I could go on but this isis a freaking YouTube video, not a gosh darn movie.(applause)With all that new stuff it'sgot to be expensive, right?Wrong, dead wrong! The 370 Z only costs about 30 grand.Divide that by 332 hrsprsand that's $90 per horse. That's a freaking steal. That's old west freights.- Number four.Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat.- Dodge has always defined themselvesby squeezing horsepower out of carsand selling them for cheap. And recently the qualityof the interiors and stuffhave come up to rivalcars from Europe and Asia.2020 is a good time to be a MOPAR guybecause as we all know,MOPAR stands for more power, baby!Actually it stands for Motor Parts. There are, in fact, 3 modelsin the Challenger lineupthat cost more than the SRT Hellcat. The Widebody, the Redeye, and the Redeye Widebody.Problem is none of them havea better dollar to horsepower figurethan the SRT Hellcat, which costs $60,695.And it has a ridiculous 717 hrspr. That's just $84 per hrspower. And it's not as if theHellcat is missing outon tons of features that themodels above it are getting. It still comes withBilstein adaptive dampers, six piston Brembos up frontand four pistons in the rear, and a top speed of 199 miles per. That's the same as the Mercedes CLK GTR.That's faster than a Ferrari F50.That is why you buy a Dodge. And this isn't even the fastestcheapest car Dodge offers. It's the same storywith the Charger familywhich is why the next car is also a Dodge.- Number three.Dodge Charger Scat Pack.- The Charger R/T Scat Packmay not be the quickestor most expensive Charger you can buy.But when you do the math,'cause I'm a math boy,you see that it isabsolutely the best valueand you're still getting485 hrsprs to play withfor just $40,000.That's $83 per hrspr. And you want to know something? All my Scat Pack bros are out theregetting frickin' hatedon day and frickin' nightand I'm sick and tired of it.The Scat Pack is an awesome packagefor an already really, really cool car.So next time you try andclown on your neighborfor buying a Scat Pack insteadof the Hellcat, think again.I don't even care that scat means poo pooand it was well knownthat scat meant poo poobefore Dodge named a car after it again.Bravo, Dodge.Bravo.- Number two,a three-way tie. This is amazing and perfect and awesomeand just so frickin' American. We actually have a threeway tie for second placefrom the three companiesyou'd expect to tie ina situation like thiswhat's interesting is how differentlyeach of them of went about getting a carwith this dollar to horse power figure.Starting with the cheapest to buy--- Chevy Camaro V6.- The sixth gen Camarowas released in 2016and that same year wonMotor Trend's annualCar of the Year Award, and with good reason.Over four years Chevy has messed withand refined the Camaroand it's lineup of enginesfrom the tiny little cute boytwo-liter turbo four cylinderright up to the roaring 6.2-liter LT4 V8.That thing'll make 650 hrsprs. But the one that comesin second place tiedis the Camaro V6.It puts out 335 horsepower which, let's be honest,is more than enough or go have some fun.I mean that like whatHi Car has essentially. You can just go outand do some skiddy boyswith the pals after class, and with a price tag of 27 grand, that's only $80 dollars per hrspr. That's right, a Camaro with a V6is technically a bettervalue than a Hellcat.I'm as shocked as you are.Next up in this three way tie for second--- Ford Mustang.- Now this Mustanghas a much higher pricetag than the Camaro. It's 37 grand which is $10,000more than the V6 Camaro. However, for that price Fordis giving you 460 hrsprs. That gives you the same$80 per hrspr figure. So I guess it all comesdown to personal preference. You want to save some moneyand make a little poweror you want to spend alittle bit more moneyand get some more power.- Dodge Challenger Scat Pack.- Rounding out our tie for secondis the Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack.It has 485 hrsprs and costs $39,000.Exactly the same as the Ford and Chevywhich you may have guessedif you know what a tie means. All three American brands, the literal big three all representedin the second place mark, tied with $80 per hrspr. But none of that matters.Because slipping in under the radar, coming at number one is this.- Number one.Chevy Camaro LT1.- The Camaro SS willcost you over $40,000.The Camaro V6 that we justtalked about, $26,000.The new for 2020 LT1 speccomes in around the middle at $34,995and truly offers,in my opinion the best of both worlds. If you take the Camaro V6's spec,it's lack of leather interior,it's lack of adjustable ride height, and added the V8 from the SS,then you get the LT1.455 hrsprsonly costs you $35,000.That's $76 dollars per hrspr. And honestly,if I'm being honest, whichI'm always frickin' honest,I never frickin' lie.I'm like Abraham dang Lincoln over here,I've always like a no frills car.My Golf is a Golf CL.It's the lowest option Golf available.I think that every manufacturershould offer an option like this.Give us the big boy enginewithout all the other crap.I would love that. And even though it has basic options, the LT1 is the opposite of basic. It's fun as hell.It may lack the interior refinementsthat we're becoming accustomed to,but it's still a great car to be in.Plus it more than makesup for any deficitsthrough its fantastic driving dynamicsand its impressive, more than impressive straight line speed. The LT1 is the closes thingto putting a saddle on a V8without having to break out your chaps. And it costs $76 per horsepower.(rock music)Buff horses shirt, dontnutmedia.com.Go get yours today.Thank you guys so much for watchingthis episode
