Review - Quantum Byte - Fanless Windows 8.1 Mini Desktop PC

**Introduction to the Quantum Byte**

So, literally, is smaller than my thumb so you plug it in and well, you kind of forget about it okay so speaking in terms of video we have two options for connectivity we have vga which I don't really recommend as well as hdmi which is obviously the better route to take but with that said at least we have the option so if for whatever reason you're using hdmi for your main video output you could use vga for something else and of course, the quantum byte does have an ethernet jack but I'm using wi-fi and that works great as well as a headphone audio jack and even a built-in sd card reader which honestly I never got around to using but I'm assuming it works just fine I mean it's an sd card reader what do you expect now.

**Wireless Connectivity**

Speaking in terms of wireless connectivity, what does the quantum bite offer well, it offers 802.11 a b g n as well as Bluetooth 4.0. Now Bluetooth is a big deal with me because one I was not expecting it to be included in a computer again, costing just less than $200 and two this is really, really convenient because as I mentioned previously I am using the quantum byte as a home theater pc so in other words, I'm going to be a good distance from my tv so eventually, I plan to connect a Bluetooth keyboard as well as a Bluetooth mouse. And finally, the last pro that I want to point out is the fact that it's silent; the quantum bite does not make a single sound and that's thanks to its fanless design yes, fanless okay, so you should know by now that I'm a huge fan of fanless designs, even human beings are distracted by squirrels but yes, guys, I love fanless designs especially starting out with my HP Stream 11. It was one of my favorite features about that notebook and it's no different with the quantum byte; the family's design means for a silent experience and let's face it, that's very important if you plan to watch movies using the quantum bite so I give huge props to Quantum Suppliers for pulling it off.

**Pros and Cons**

As much as I love the quantum byte, it's not perfect but what do you expect for a PC costing as little as it does? But you know what with that said guys, I only have two cons, and they're not a big deal at all. And the first one is the lack of USB 3.0 support; does it matter no, but would it have been nice well, of course, but honestly, guys, I don't really plan to connect any USB 3.0 devices to my quantum byte the only thing I'm currently using is like I said, my keyboard and mouse, and that works just fine. And now moving on to the more important con at least important to me because I'm a graphic designer, I'm a web designer so this sort of thing is important to me; I like my products looking good but unfortunately, the quantum byte does not really fall in that category of you know sexy design because well, like I said in the beginning of this video, this thing looks like a wireless router which is not really a bad thing and again guys, I just got to stress this not a big deal at all; it's just a very interesting decision in terms of overall design.

**Conclusion**

The final verdict is the quantum byte worth it for $170 at least as of this recording without data in my mind yes performance is not stellar but for $170 and considering it has a quad-core Atom CPU and two gigabytes of RAM with Bluetooth 4.0 three USB ports Wi-Fi Ethernet audio out two video outs why would you not get a quantum byte if you're looking for a home theater PC on a budget just go for it you will most likely enjoy this little computer as much as I am, and don't forget it's running Windows 8.1 and in my opinion, this is how Windows 8 is meant to be used on a tablet is one thing obviously because you're meant for that touch input but it looks really good on a tv with the nice large tiles nice Windows 8 apps built for large readability if that makes sense so check it out using the link right below and huge thanks to Quantum Suppliers for making this video possible. Now, if you guys don't know who they are I will link an older video of mine where I actually did a review I believe it was sometime around the summer on a quantum suppliers Windows 8 tablet slash notebook hybrid and I really, really enjoyed that product overall, it was just a very nice surprise so guys just check that out as well, and I gotta say, I'm looking very forward to seeing what else Quantum Suppliers has in the works so they have it a positive review on the quantum byte go check it out, and guys thank you so much for watching thank you so much for your support, and I will see you in my next video peace.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enthe quantum bite is a fanless windows 8 1 mini pc that can fit pretty much anywhere in your home or office with an intel atom quad-core cpu and 2 gigabytes of ram this small computer performs surprisingly well from streaming 1080p content flawlessly to multitasking between email and web browsing i think you will be impressed hey guys how are you david franke here from daviddefranco.com to my review of the quantum bytes what an awesome awesome little surprise so let's just jump right into it starting out with the pros let's just get this out of the way because this is the most obvious one the quantum bite it's incredibly small it is so small that it's actually smaller than your average external hard drive and just a bit bigger than my iphone 5s that's how small this thing is all right so i will say the design is a bit awkward because of the external antenna which is an interesting design choice but that does not take away from the functionality of the quantum bite if anything it probably adds to it because you most likely get better reception from throughout your house but thankfully my router and my quantum bite just happen to be in the same room right back there my living room and it works great okay so getting into specs the intel atom quad-core cpu how does it perform well i'm happy to say this it does a great job especially considering how i use my quantum byte i actually use it as an httpc otherwise known as a home theater personal computer for basically just that home theater things like streaming music streaming my videos via netflix youtube it does a great job overall however i do have to say this i saw a tiny bit of lag in performance when playing youtube videos within google chrome now whether this is an issue with youtube itself the quantum bite or windows 8 it's kind of hard to tell because well videos played perfectly in a youtube app called hyper so there is my recommendation if you want to play youtube apps on the quantum bytes i highly recommend you go that route again it's called hyper and the app is 100 free and it works very well the design is nicely laid out there are tons of features to take advantage of and of course you can sign into your youtube account which makes the experience that much better now in terms of the two gigabytes of ram yes you may be thinking well david that's not a lot of ram but you have to keep in mind one the price tag and two how much do you really expect out of a computer of that size so two gigabytes of ram i found to be kind of this sweet spot i was playing musical in pandora i was streaming content in the background on netflix and hyper and i was web browsing and answering emails just again as long as you're avoiding youtube videos within a web browser just use videos in the third-party app such as hyper or any of the other youtube apps available in the windows store all right so speaking in terms of il otherwise known as input and output what do we have well we have three usb 2.0 ports which is definitely very handy because i actually use one of those ports for a usb dongle i love that word dongle for my logitech keyboard and my logitech mouse and thankfully the dongle is literally smaller than my thumb so you plug it in and well you kind of forget about it okay so speaking in terms of video we have two options for connectivity we have vga
