Canon's Game Changing Cameras

The Impact of Canon's Latest Camera Release on the Industry

It is hard to say whether Canon's latest camera release will be as influential as their previous model, the 5D Mark II, but it is certainly going to have more of an influence on more people than any Panasonic camera ever has. This is largely due to Canon's brand power and reputation in the industry. When you go to a photography event or tour around, you are likely to see a Canon camera more often than any other brand, including Sony.

Historically, Panasonic was newer to the game and was a video company known for its expertise in this area. Canon and Nikon, on the other hand, were always the still photo guys, but when they entered the video world, it appealed to people who were not already familiar with it. This has made Panasonic's entry into the market more notable and interesting.

The release of affordable tools within reach to people who are going to be creative with them is a game-changer for many photographers. Tools that normally would cost more than two cars are now available at an affordable price point, making it possible for anyone to shoot high-quality video. This is particularly exciting for those who started shooting video professionally and were limited by the technology available at the time.

For example, when the author first started shooting video professionally, they had a 60D camera that was limiting in terms of what they could do with it. If they were to start again today, their work wouldn't necessarily be better, but they would have more options and be able to learn faster. The fact that log was even an option until seven years ago is just one example of how far technology has come.

The release of Canon's new camera also forces everyone else in the industry to respond. Sony, in particular, was seen as being slow to innovate after Canon set a new standard. However, when one company can do something that others cannot, it raises questions about why not. This is what we want to see more of in the industry, where companies are encouraged to push boundaries and innovate.

The fact that Canon has done this with such ease is likely due to their cultural values and respect for history. Japan is known for its attention to detail and commitment to quality, which allows companies like Canon to maintain a high level of innovation. It's not an insult to say that it's unusual for Japanese corporations to change direction and think in new ways.

Now that the news is out, there will be meetings and discussions about how Panasonic was able to achieve this. We can expect questions to be asked about how they did it and why others are not following suit. It would be great if Panasonic's motivation is simply a love for video production, as it seems that their commitment to this market is genuine.

Nikon will likely take a closer look at what Panasonic has done and wonder if they have any engineers still working on camera technology. This raises an interesting point about the state of innovation in the industry and how companies can work together to push boundaries.
