The Journey to Revive My Car's Hatch
I had been working tirelessly to revive my car's hatch, which had been sitting idle for quite some time. The goal was to get it running again, and I was determined to see it through. I started by removing various components from the car, including the engine block, in order to clean and prepare it for reassembly.
I decided to put the car into the garage and take out the engine block, which is actually a stock H22 JDM version of the Honda Civic hatch. This type of block has a closed deck design, but unlike typical open-deck Honda blocks, there's no space around each cylinder. The resulting design allows it to hold quite a bit of power. I had installed high-compression pistons and ARP main studs and head studs, which would provide additional strength to the engine.
Next, I needed to get my hands on some brake cleaner so that I could clean off any grime or debris from the engine block. This was a crucial step in preparing the motor for reassembly. With the cleaning process complete, I then headed over to the parts store to pick up other necessary components, including a new transmission.
The transmission itself is an interesting story. It's a junkyard find that cost me $100, and it's still holding up well today. The fact that it was so affordable made it an attractive option for reviving my car's hatch. I had also purchased a competition twin-disc clutch, which would provide the necessary power to get the car running.
Before proceeding with reassembly, I took some time to review what I had done to the block and ensure that everything was in order. This included installing the manly H-beam rods and ARP rod and main bearings. The head gasket was also upgraded with titanium springs and retainers. With all of these components installed and in place, it was time to start reassembling the engine.
One of the most challenging aspects of reassembly was getting the back mount on the engine block to align properly. This required some effort, but eventually, I managed to get it into place. The head gasket was then torqued down, and all of the components were put back together in their proper positions.
With the hardest part complete, I could now begin the process of putting everything else back together. I started by reinstalling the cams and setting the timing. This ensured that everything was properly aligned and would function as it should. The transmission belts were also installed, and all necessary sensors had been plugged into the engine. Finally, I added oil to the car's system, which was essential for getting it running.
The final step was to try and start up the car. With all of the necessary components in place and everything hooked up properly, I was confident that it should be able to fire up without any issues. To my surprise, the first time I tried to start it, it took a few seconds to get going but eventually did so. This gave me hope that the rod issue had been solved.
Although there's still much work to be done, such as adding more components and getting everything fully assembled, I was pleased with the progress made so far. With any luck, my car's hatch would be running smoothly within the next day or two. For now, though, it's time for me to get some rest – a well-deserved shower followed by a good night's sleep are just what I need.
A Quick Update on My Car's Hatch
I'll stop here and leave you with an update on my car's hatch. The most significant improvement is that there's no longer any noise coming from the engine, which suggests that the rod issue has been resolved. It remains to be seen how well everything will work together once all of the components are fully assembled and in place.
In the morning, I'll continue working on getting my car's hatch up and running smoothly. This may involve adding additional components, such as a fuel system or suspension upgrades. With any luck, it won't take long to get everything sorted out.
This is all for now – thanks for watching!
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enwe had the bunny stay over the night at our house as you can see he's doing fine everyone was all worried that he's going to be in shock and have a mini heart attack but he's chilling we're gonna let him go today but he had a nice warm night at our house so it did rain last night so at least he didn't have to sit out in that yeah he seems fine he's exploring everywhere and Lucy's going crazy over him in Andrew right now wants to eat him so today I'm going to be trying to finish up the hatch I just got the oil pan back on it everything in the bottom end is completely done just got to throw the transmission back on it drop it in the car and put it back together from there so right now I'm going to head over to the parts store get some brake cleaner so I can clean this off for the head gasket and I need a brake clean off a couple other things and probably head back over and drop the bunny off where we found him oh trying to oh he's going under the Evo but go let the bunny go then come back and try to get my car running by the end of the day that will be the goal well ok he's all hyper now he was just really tired last night or something but he's full of energy right now brought the bunny back I'm putting them right where I found him you're free to go a little good hope you do well so I just got back and I'm just getting started on getting the motor back into the hatch I did get sidetracked a little bit it's about 8:30 at night right now so I'm probably going to be up really late trying to get this thing in there but my goal is to get it running tonight maybe not all the way together but least try to fire her up and before I put it in there I was just going to go over real quick what I have done to the block for the lot of you guys think this is a sleeve block because it's a closed deck but it is actually a stock block h22 this is just the JDM version so that's why it kind of looks like it might be sleeved but this is just a closed deck it's not like the typical open deck Honda blocks where there's a space around each cylinder right here so it's kind of like a factory block guard which is kind of neat so these things can hold quite a bit of power just fine on the stock block I got the manly H beam rods and we got them all gold eleven to one high-compression pistons stock crank and I have Kings rod and main bearings ARP main studs and ARP head studs and I have the competition twin disc clutch and that is pretty much all there is to it the only thing done to the head is titanium Springs and retainers and the transmission is completely stocked that is the junkyard training steel that we got a while back from the you pullin pay hundred bucks still holding up strong but just wanted to go through the motor one more time for you guys so you know exactly what's in there and this setup should be good for at least 600 plus to the wheels just like how I had it before and yeah I'm gonna stay up all night and try to get this thing up and running at least get the motor in there probably won't have it completely done but we'll see how far we can get so I'm gonna get to it drop the motor back in got the head all torqued down I did have to fight with getting this block in there quite a bit because this back mount just did not want to line up for me but I finally got it got the head on there that's all good so pretty much the hardest part is done now I just get to go through and put everything back together I'll probably start by putting the cams back on and then setting the timing real quick at the timing belts on there and then it's all downhill from there probably just throw the intake and fuel rail on make sure everything else I need is plugged in and put oil in it and I'm going to see if it's going to fire up for us so once I get all that done I will try to crank it alright I got everything done that it needs to start up and run so obviously missing a lot of things no coolant at all but it does have oil in it everything else is hooked up timing is all good got all the necessary sensors plugged in fuels good so I'm going to try to crank it over and see if this thing starts up there should be no reason why I shouldn't all I did was change the compression everything else is put back together just how it was so i'ma see if she fires up alright that was actually the second time I started up the first time took it a sec but as you guys saw not when it fired right up after I already had it running so still got a lot more to put together but I'll be doing that tomorrow get this thing up and running soon I am done for the night I obviously need a shower and there's just going to be a really short quick video for you guys let you know that the hatch is running again there's no more noise so guessing that rod was the issue so that's a good sign but I'll cut you up in the morning and get it all put together and hopefully have it running and driving sometime tomorrow but that's going to be it for tonight it's really late and I want to go to bed so thanks for watchingwe had the bunny stay over the night at our house as you can see he's doing fine everyone
