Bonus Questions and Answers

If you're experiencing issues with your car's acceleration above 2000 rpm, there are several potential causes. One possibility is that the vehicle is not getting enough fuel pressure. This can be as simple as a clogged fuel filter or a weak fuel pump. It's recommended to start by checking the fuel filter and testing its pressure before moving on to more expensive repairs.

Another possible cause of acceleration issues is a clogged catalytic converter. These converters burn hydrocarbons, which can accumulate over time and clog up the tiny honeycomb holes. If the car is burning too much oil or running rich, it can exacerbate this problem. Fortunately, these issues are relatively easy to diagnose using an oxygen sensor test.

To determine if your catalytic converter needs to be replaced, simply remove the exhaust cap and attach a pressure gauge before the oxygen sensor. Take note of the pressure reading; if it's three to four to five psi, there should be hardly any backpressure. However, if the reading is six or more psi, that indicates the catalytic converter is clogged and needs to be replaced.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enrev up your engines okay you know i'm not a volkswagen but this is their new 2-liter engine it's turbocharged let's see he doesn't care about that it's going to last a lot longer than he's ever going to drive the thing if you want technology and you don't put much mileage on fees can be fun cars now this infotainment system was going bananas doing crazy stuff and they told them rather take it apart do some soldering they just replaced the module in it and now everything works okay now that i don't care you know it's how they got any miles on it and they fixed it they didn't charge them anything they didn't make any whine about it it has got a good shifter and i asked him i said well what do you think about driving it with that do you do it manually and he said no because i can't beat the machine and i found that in any cars even in a mustang i had quarter mile i could not beat the machine put it in drag strip mode you can't beat the machine in that case it was a 10-speed automatic transmission it's got eco mode regular mode and sport mode but in sport mode you can't shift better than the computer they're just too fast and they're smarter than us mere mortals 243 horsepower out of a little engine like this hey it's doing pretty good and it's a company called apr they're working on a super tune for these that they say they can safely do 301 horsepower he's probably gonna do that but he's waiting for them to get okay from volkswagen so it doesn't void the warranty he'll get rid of it long before it has even a hundred thousand maybe before it has forty thousand miles on it so he doesn't care now i did say that most of the time he drives like a granny butt i said well you had a jetta before he said yeah he couldn't get out of its own way he didn't like that at all so he's not as grandma as he might talk driving here in a highway you got about 36 miles a gallon mind you if you bumped it to 301 you'd get worse gas mileage that's just the way that it goes but with 240 something horsepower hey this thing's plenty quick enough if you get that kind of gas mileage now he did have it on eco mode because he wanted to get the best gas mileage but realize this when you're on a highway it doesn't matter what mode you put it in because you get into the top gear and once you're cruising doesn't matter what mode you're in it's in top gear so it isn't going to bother it one way or the other it's just getting from zero to 80 is going to use more gas once you get to 80 it doesn't make any difference at all he got these and they didn't charge him any extra mind you they wanted to charge him extra for stuff but the man's no fool and he got it at least price but like everything else these days she still had to wait three months he put a thousand down he had to wait three months to get it because there's just a backlog of new cars out there which is probably the number one reason used cars are so expensive because these cars are there they're used to their for sale right new cars they gotta build them well you get in your hand people are paying more for used ones and new ones now this is a gti and it's good news for you gti fans because guess what they've done they've shut down the factory in mexico so let's look at this one brand new one manufactured in germany all these gtis are now made in germany and if you think about it okay this whole bmw it was made in germany it's got 380 000 miles on it they know how to make things in deutschland there's a little thing called quality control which the germans have so you're getting a german car made by germans in germany now they've already had to recall these for the beauty cover but if you notice guy is an id guy there ain't no stinking beauty cover here that's why it used to snap in but he said oh where do you guys redesign them you can give me one and i'll try it out if i don't like it i'll just leave it off me i would leave it off he lives in tennessee if you live in the arctic tundra beauty cover serves a little bit helps hold the heat in and stuff it gets hot here do you really want all of this plastic stuff to heat soak when you shut the engine off it's got a turbo you know what turbos get hot as hades you're going to hold that eating you're going to wear that plastic out faster me i just leave the thing off anyways it's much more interesting that way if you know anything about old volkswagens not old old but older you're one of the early peoples that used gdi gasoline direct injection and they had nothing but carbon buildup problems i'd see sometimes two inches of carbon build up it was insane this is a redesigned system and as far as it stands today these don't have any real problems this is a completely reworked direct injection system just don't be one of those fools that changes oil every 12 or 15 000 miles change it regularly with full synthetic oil we do have german technology here they're anal they show a picture of the oil then it shows you a picture of the book now we started it up we're going to put it in speed mode there we go we want sport then we go to vehicle it's still booting up so it takes a little bit of time you turn the esc off confirm now we can drive fast now you can see it's got a decent backup camera by law they all have to now the first thing i noticed is that it's smooth as can be idling even though it's a little four cylinder end we're in sport mode which is s and we have the traction control turned off so it won't activate relatively low vehicles this thing corners like a drain like i said it's got eco mode then you got the good gas mileage in it's got normal mode and it has sport mode and we have it in sport mode so we'll head on out to the little drag strip nobody's coming it really is a fun car to drive in a twisties i say that here we go it's burning those tires man a lot of speed but that transmission shifts like a dream we'll do a little passing smooth no jerking takes off fast with that turbo interestingly enough it's got a g meter g-force major you step on it turn left turn right pretty cool you wanna see how many g's you can turn i'm not gonna do it in reckless car but hey lots of technology but it's made in germany and with the sport mode and the traction control off hey this thing is quite a bit of fun to drive smooth and powerful i can't wait until he puts that other tune on and it puts out 301 horsepower but even more fun to drive and of course it's got all the bells and whistles on the steering column fancy shaded sunroof keep the mosquitoes out if you open it and let's face it when you're getting a twisties with this thing man it's a lot of fun now if you want you can take it out of sport not just in d and then it more or less purrs like a kitten see that shift was real smooth and slow it's almost like a completely different car when you put in eco mode literally a wolf in sheep's clothing all you gotta do is push the button to sport a lot of technology fun to drive good gas mileage eco insane power sport but realize one thing about this car this man doesn't drive much so his previous gti went 35 000 miles worked fine but he wanted a new one he tried it on him if you don't drive 20 30 000 miles a year you might be totally happy with one of these things because it really is a gti it's not just a badge a lot of cars these days have badges on them that mean absolutely nothing some of the toyotas say gr that's supposed to be gazoo racing made by toyota in japan right well some of those subarus re-banded as toyotas have that and they're made in the subaru factory not even made by toyota this is a volkswagen gti that pretty much created the hot hatch back in the day and they've improved on it if you don't mind the technology and you don't drive millions of miles and have put a lot of maintenance into it you have a lot of fun he's happy with it doesn't drive much much you can go fast slow just realize long term if you're a two three four hundred thousand mile driver you might think twice would buy one of these but if you're happy with the car it goes probably a hundred thousand miles you had to chip after your place they did it for free i'll get so many chips and cars stupid but car itself handles like a dream the transmission shifts like a drain the engine can get great gas mileage in economy mode hey i gotta say this volkswagen now made in germany and not mexico now of course i'm too cheap to buy a new one but hey when a guy gets rid of it in seven years who knows but then i realized i'm even too cheap for that they tried to give him less but for his old one he got 17 too far that's too much for me i'm a cheapskate i went a real deal by the other hand hey he's having fun with this thing he's not really griping about the module going bad they fixed it for free and charge them anything for it and they didn't just solder it they put a new one in interesting car for what it is even though it's a volkswagen and here's some bonus questions and answers ismil says my car won't accelerate above 2000 rpm i got a nissan skyline can you tell me what is wrong when a vehicle won't accelerate only a certain rpms there's two main things that go wrong one is you're not getting enough fuel pressure and it can be as simple as a clogged fuel filter so change that simple deal or a weak fuel pump which you could pressure test but do not first just pressure test it because if the fuel filter is clogged you pressure test it it'll have low pressure it might be the filter and not the expensive pump so try the filter first if it's not the filter after you change it it still won't replace the fuel pump if you test it and the pressure's low now the other thing is catalytic converters can clog up they burn hydrocarbons they got little honeycomb holes but as time goes on if you've got a car that burns a little oil runs a little bit too rich it can clog all those little holes up with carbon the car can't breathe out it'd be like when we were kids if you want to get even with some old man who was grouchy or something you'd stick a potato in the exhaust of his car you jam it up and then it couldn't go fast because it couldn't breathe out it's the same thing when a catalytic converter gets clogged up now that's very easy to test you take out oxygen sensor before the cap and you put a pressure gauge and if the pressure is like three four five psi it should be almost nothing there should be hardly any back pressure but if it's three four five six psi or more that means the catalytic converter is clogged and it needs to be replaced because it's being restricted and what can breathe out so it can only go so fast because it can't breathe out any faster those are the two main things that do it so if you never want to miss another one of my new car repair videos remember to ring that bell you\n"
