Samsung Galaxy S6 vs HTC One M9 _ Full Comparison

The Samsung Galaxy S6: A Superior Camera Experience

When it comes to camera quality, the Samsung Galaxy S6 stands out as the only option for performance. The S6 offers far more detailed and crisper images compared to its competitors, including the HTC One M9. This is largely due to the f1.9 aperture, which helps produce better shots in low light conditions, albeit at the cost of a narrower depth of field in some instances. While this may be a drawback for some users, the S6's camera is undoubtedly one of its strongest features.

In contrast, the HTC One M9's camera, although capable, seems to lack significant upgrades over its predecessor, the Ultra Pixel technology featured in the M8. The images produced by the M9 are generally more muted in color, and while HDR does create a natural-looking effect, it can take several seconds to process. Furthermore, when recording video standing still, the camera's performance is shaky and rough. On the other hand, the S6 produces crisper, brighter, and more pleasing images, with live HDR being a notable feature.

One aspect where the M9 shines, however, is in its audio quality. The phone's stereo boom speakers are absolute first-rate, offering the best sound quality in terms of core quality, loudspeaker, and headphone compatibility of any smartphone on the market. The improvement over the previous model, the HTC One M (not mentioned in the transcription), is subtle but noticeable, with a more refined and crisp sound being produced. This is further enhanced by the excellent Dolby Sound software and the Theater mode, which provides a punchy and vibrant audio experience.

On the other hand, while the S6's design is undoubtedly improved, it may not be to everyone's taste, particularly when compared to the HTC One M9. The phone's new home on the bottom of the device gives it a slightly different look compared to its predecessors, albeit one that is more in line with Apple devices. In terms of sound quality, the S6 is significantly improved over the S5, but still falls short of the M9.

The Verdict: A Great Phone, But Not Without Its Flaws

Regardless of which phone you prefer, it's undeniable that Samsung has really stepped up its game this year. The Galaxy S6 boasts a fresh design, QHD resolution, and an incredibly fast processor, making it a top contender in the market. However, when compared to the HTC One M9, it seems that the S6 lacks innovation or exciting new features. While both phones are fantastic, the differences between them become apparent when put side by side.

Ultimately, whether you choose the S6 or the M9 depends on your personal preferences and priorities. Both phones have their strengths and weaknesses, but if sound and audio quality are crucial for you, then the M9 is the clear winner. On the other hand, if design and camera quality take precedence, then the S6 is the way to go.

Samsung's Design Evolution: A Shift Towards a More Minimalist Approach

One of the most significant changes in the Galaxy S6 series is Samsung's shift towards a more minimalist approach in its design. Gone are the days of the bulky, removable battery and expandable storage options. Instead, the phone has been streamlined to focus on a sleeker, more premium feel.

While some may lament the loss of these features, they were never as essential as Samsung would have you believe. In fact, the company's decision to remove them was likely a strategic move to differentiate its products from those of competitors like HTC and Apple. By adopting a more streamlined design approach, Samsung has managed to create a phone that is not only visually stunning but also remarkably fast and responsive.

The Impact of Design on User Experience

Design is undoubtedly a subjective aspect of smartphone usage, but it can have a significant impact on how we interact with our devices. When a phone looks great, it can boost confidence and create a more enjoyable user experience. The Galaxy S6's design, while not revolutionary, has made a notable improvement over its predecessors.

One aspect where the M9 excels is in its attention to detail, particularly in its use of premium materials and finishes. The phone's build quality is exceptional, making it feel solid and substantial in the hand. While this may be more noticeable when compared to the HTC One M9, it's clear that Samsung has put significant effort into creating a device that feels special.

The Galaxy S6: A Well-Designed Phone with Some Disappointments

In conclusion, the Galaxy S6 is an outstanding phone with many strengths, including its camera quality and audio capabilities. However, there are some disappointments to be aware of, particularly when compared to the HTC One M9. While both phones share a similar resolution and design approach, the differences between them become apparent when put side by side.

Ultimately, whether you choose the S6 or the M9 depends on your priorities and preferences. If sound quality is paramount, then the M9 is the better choice. On the other hand, if camera quality takes precedence, then the S6 is the way to go. By considering these factors, users can make an informed decision when selecting their next smartphone.

The Future of Smartphone Design: What's Next?

As smartphones continue to evolve and improve, it will be interesting to see how designers approach the challenge of creating devices that are both functional and visually stunning. Will we see more emphasis on minimalism and streamlined designs? Only time will tell.

One thing is certain, however – the Galaxy S6 has set a high bar for smartphone design, and its competitors will need to work hard to match it. For now, Samsung remains the leader in this area, but we can't wait to see what the future holds for smartphones.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enboth the M9 and the S6 are incredibly powerful and capable smartphones both are marketed and priced as Flagship devices and so with such high-end specs the differences between them are relatively modest having said that if you are going to spend upwards of £600 or $1,000 on a new phone you're going to want to get the best one so which is better to me the M9 looks and feels incredibly similar to its predecessor the M8 aside from being a millimeter or two taller narrower and thicker than last year's model you'll only be sure you're using the new one when you see the new camera on the back it's very much a if it ain't broke don't fix it approach from HTC in terms of the design so it's a little chunky but I still love the premium brushed aluminium effect and so for many still one of the best looking Android phones on the market Samsung on the other hand has given the design of the Galaxy series the biggest overhaul since the S3 back in 2012 most notably the back has been significantly redesigned and now sits among the iPhones and HTC's of this world for that high-end look and feel the S6 Now features Gorilla Glass 4 on the front and back held together by an aluminium band around the edges which gives a really premium aesthetic it's reminiscent of the glass design found on the soning Zed series which is High Praise in my opinion as nice as the M9 looks there's not really a lot new here and it's this lack of new features lack of innovation lack of excitement that unfortunately applies to most of the device whereas Samsung has finally if you'll pardon my French pulled their finger out and although they have compromised on a couple of features including expandable memory removable battery and also water resistance they have produced a genuinely greatl looking device form of a function maybe but it's light thinner and more compact than its predecessor the S5 and its competitor the M9 so for me the S6 gets top marks for design even if the protruding camera is a bit annoying and makes it easier to scratch the camera lens although of course you can just put a case on it although neither phone has increased the size of the display we still have the same 5 in on the M9 and 5.1 in displays on the S6 Samsung has pushed the boat out by offering a Quad HD resolution which gives the S6 a ridiculously high pixel density of 577 PPI that's compared to 441 on a more standard full HD M9 do you notice the difference well no not really putting the phones right up to your eye you may make out individual pixels and it does show off the sharper S6 display but in real use you simply won't notice the difference does the battery life suffer as a result of this arguably excessive resolution on the S6 probably a bit yes but the geekbench rundown test still put the S6 a fairway ahead of the M9 in battery life and from my experience with normal everyday use the M9 will be down to around 20% by late evening whereas the S6 will have a more healthy 35% charge left so even if you praise HTC for not jumping on a QHD bandwagon and sticking perhaps with a more sensible 1080p resolution we're not seeing any corresponding benefit in the battery life unfortunately so both phones are incredibly sharp and crisp but the real difference is found in the type of displays they use the M9 uses the same LCD 3 technology found on the M8 which offers a natural looking and reasonably bright around 500 nits display although the color temperature does have a slightly cool Hue to it the S6 on the other hand features Samsung's own Super AMOLED technology which is simply awesome with a range of display modes to choose from from basic which offers a slightly muted almost paper yellow but natural look to the cinema and adaptive modes which provide really rich and Punchy colors you can customize it to suit you it's worth dispelling the myth that Super AMOLED displays are inaccurate or oversaturated as the Note 4 and Galaxy Tab S 8.4 and 10.5 are both devices that are widely considered to offer the best and most accurate displays on the market and it's the same technology we find in the new S6 so it's bright up to 600 nits rich and importantly accurate it's when we compare the hardware specs and performance of the S6 and M9 that things get really interesting both devices include 3 GB of RAM both have octacore 64-bit processors which come in the form of the latest Snapdragon 810 for the M9 and Samsung's own xnos 7420 for the S6 on paper there isn't a lot between them however when we put them to the test and compare the Speed and Performance in benchmarks app launching test test and general UI responsiveness we begin to see a real difference it's interesting that for the first time since the S2 Samsung are using their own in-house chips to power the S6 and from my tests they were right to do so the Snapdragon 810 in the M9 is fast and will handle anything you throw at it but Samsung's xnos chip proves to be an absolute beast when it comes to Performance thanks to a more efficient micro architecture the processor in the S6 is faster and more power efficient than the M9 which is most likely what's providing the surprisingly good battery life we're seeing as fast as the M9 is though with its hardware and reliably smooth Cent 7 UI it is left in the s6's dust when we compare them side by side the notoriously laggy Touch wiz on the S6 is now flawlessly smooth and combined with the new processor produces incredible results in benchmarks and real world use apps load noticeably faster on the S6 and some games feel smoother thanks to higher frame rates of course both phones are extremely capable and very fast but the S6 is undoubtedly quicker and although you may not always notice the difference if you do want the best of the best the S6 really is the only option for performance in terms of camera quality the S6 offers far more detailed and crisper images although the f1.9 aperture which does help it produce better shots in low light does actually narrow the depth of field and so in some images the M9 has more InFocus you'll have to weigh up whether you prefer brighter and therefore less noisy images at the expense of the potential for Less to be in Focus although it does create easier and better depth of field effects as a result the M9 camera on the whole is a bit disappointing it's capable but there doesn't appear to be any significant upgrade from the ultra pixel technology featured in the M8 in terms of detail and general quality colors are fairly muted the HDR effect creates a natural looking images and takes a good few seconds to process and the video quality even when standing still is shaky and a bit rough the S6 on the other hand produces crisper brighter and generally more pleasing images live HDR is a nice feature and on the whole I'm happy to leave hdr on auto mode pretty much all the time the camera Builds on the techn techology features of the Note 4 which for me offered one of the best cameras on a smartphone it's fast it's bright it's details I really can't find fault beyond the occasional narrow Focus issue we talked about but fair not HDC Enthusiast the M9 still has its Ace car to play its stereo boom sound speakers are absolutely First Rate and for me offer the best sound quality in terms of core quality loudspeaker and headphone quality of any smartphone on the market the improvement over the ma is subtle but to my ear the M9 produces a more refined more crisp sound back which is made even better by the excellent Doby sound software and I'd recommend using the theater mode for a more Punchy and vibrant audio experience this isn't to say the S6 sounds bad it's been significantly improved of the S5 thanks in part to its new home on the bottom of the phone which yes does make it look a bit like an iPhone but it is reasonably Punchy and loud but of course just isn't really in the same league as the M9 so if sound and audio quality are important for you the M9 really is the only option I think it's fair to say that regardless of which phone you prefer you have to hand it to Samsung for really oping their game this year a refresh design QHD resolution super fast processor incredible camera and solid battery life sure we have lost a few features but we've also gained a fingerprint reader that finally works well and for me the best part of the new S6 is just how smooth responsive and generally nice to use Touch wi finally is the 1 M8 was a great phone but that was last year and for me the M9 sits in its shadow a bit it's LED down by a lack of innovation or exciting new features the speakers are still fantastic and the phone looks great but there's really not a whole lot new here aside from the new processor and camera so both fantastic phones both very capable but if you're going to go out and spend a whole bunch of money then i' highly recommend the S6 um you can't really go wrong with either as I say but it is when you put them side by side you really do see that the S6 uh comes out in front and I think for me Samsung has been a little complacent until recently we haven't seen such a major redesign since the S3 a good few years ago now so it's great to see that they finally listened and uh of course some of you will be a little bit annoyed that they've taken away some of the features we would associate with the Samsung product like the expandable memory battery and removable battery and water resistance but they were sort of secondary features in my opinion of course uh and for me a nicer looking better overall and just simply faster um device sort of makes up for those lack of features so of course you may disagree a lot of these issues are talking about the design and that's very very objective so you're more than uh welcome to disagree with me but for me personally my opinion and of course this is a fairly divisive issue HTC versus Samsung but uh for me the Samsung is the clear winner and I'd highly recommend you buy one so I hope that's cleared up these things uh the HTC1 and the Galaxy S6 has been my comparison video I hope it's made it clear the pros
