The Fastest Car Around the Track: A Tale of Two Vehicles
As I stood on the slippery and wet track, ready to embark on the most ludicrous twin test ever, I couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement and trepidation. The question on everyone's mind was, which car would emerge victorious? Would it be the new Duster, Renault's budget brand four-wheel drive car with a 1.6 petrol engine and a price tag of £1,000, or would it be the Janetta G4R, a rear wheel drive car with a 2L Ford Duratorq engine and a price tag of £3,000? The Duster was being driven by Matthew Prior, a rotus editor who seemed quite handy behind the wheel.
As we began our journey around the track, I noticed that the Michelin tires on the G4R were quite good for it, but unfortunately, this didn't give me much hope. The car was rear wheel drive and fairly powerful, but it was also lacking in stability control, ABS, and power steering. It was essentially a race car with a registration plate, which made it all the more intriguing to see how it would perform on our low friction wet track. Meanwhile, the Duster's four-wheel drive system seemed to be its biggest advantage, as it used traction to keep up with the long left-hander.
As I watched the two cars take off, I couldn't help but feel a sense of awe at how much grip the G4R had on the circuit. It was virtually like ice, making every corner and turn a thrill ride. The Duster, on the other hand, seemed to be struggling, as it went sideways behind me, its four-wheel drive system kicking in to try and regain traction. Despite this, the editor was determined to keep up with the G4R, and I could see him pressing hard on the accelerator, trying to coax every last bit of speed out of his car.
However, despite my best efforts, I couldn't shake off the feeling that the Duster was just not meant for this track. It was a simple little car with no stability control or ABS, which made it all too easy to lose traction and spin out. The G4R, on the other hand, had a certain je ne sais quoi that set it apart from its competitors. Its rear wheel drive layout may have been a disadvantage in some ways, but it also gave it an incredible amount of feedback and responsiveness.
As we approached the final corner of the track, I realized that my initial doubts about the Duster's abilities were all too clear. No matter how hard he pressed on the accelerator, it was just not going to be enough to keep up with the G4R. Meanwhile, the Janetta had taken a commanding lead, its lightweight rear end handling every turn and corner with ease.
In the end, it was no surprise when the results were announced: the Janetta G4R had lapped around the track in 6 seconds faster than the Duster. But what was truly surprising was just how much fun the little car was to drive. Despite its lack of stability control or ABS, it seemed to be able to handle every corner and turn with ease, its rear wheel drive layout giving it a certain kind of responsiveness that was all too rare in modern cars.
As I stood on the track, watching the two cars take their final laps, I couldn't help but feel a sense of admiration for the Janetta G4R. It may have been an unconventional car with no stability control or ABS, but it had one thing that set it apart from its competitors: pure driving joy. And as I watched it disappear into the distance, I knew that I would never forget this moment, and the thrill of driving a car that was truly alive.

this is completely new to the UK ducher is renault's budget brand this four-wheel drive car behind me costs £1,000 it has a 105 brake horsepower 1.6 petrol engine and it doesn't even come with a stereo as standard in the fast but not so grippy Corner we have another new entry to the UK Road carene the Janetta g4r this one cost £3,000 200 brake horsepower from a 2 L Ford durch engine rear wheel drive and absolutely no driver raise whatsoever not even ABS let alone power steering it's basically a race car with a registration plate so let's see which one's faster around our wet track potentially the most ludicrous twin test ever but I am quite intrigued to see what will be faster because I think that data might get it you know having that much grip on this circuit which is virtually like ice makes such a difference the duta is being driven by Matthew prior rotus editor and he is a bit handy so I'm just going to have to absolutely nail every single Bend if I've got any chance of keeping up whatsoever the Janetta actually whilst of course being rear wheel drive and fairly powerful and light but it's really not too bad in terms of group but the Michelin tires are quite good for it I can see that duer going sideways behind me that's crazy oh c it's it's quite loose at the back this car no stability control oh BL she's pulling away already by such an enormous amount trying to use the traction of the four-wheel drive system to keep up the long left-hander little bit sideways confidence break into the chicane and out onto the street I think what I expected is for to get away down the straights but for me to be able to nail it so much through the corners that I'd be able to keep up but I'm not actually sure whether even in the corners I'm going to manage to do it where I'm hanging on and waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting for the under steer to stop you know vix is already back on the gas trying to keep it in a straight line because that is actually the fastest way around this circuit I'm losing him oh come on right going into a left-hander which then goes into a rander this can be a bit tricky you have to balance the car properly but the good news is that there's so much feel in this car that you know exactly what when it's stepping out this is the joy of cars with absolutely no driver AIDS nothing between you and the car but mechanics fantastic things but I think it does is it sort of washes into UND steer and only then will it kick power to the back and then not enough right let's take as much curb as I can and more you can't compete with that surely in a g4z come on I've got off-road prow and abs which I can really nail into a Bend so I make up some stuff there I can see the ducher absolutely he's trying so hard oh on more power more power more power drag it out drag it out on the power come on just oh it's just asking too much for it I think and actually bigger surprise possibly it's just what a good little car the G40 is in the wet you have probably figured out by now that no amount of corner cutting was going to save the d a duster we're rather taken by its simple budget charms anyway but clearly it's not intended for the track lapping around 6 seconds faster the jeta g4r clearly is and it proved to be just as at home and potentially even more fun than ever on our low friction wet track chalk this one up to a victory in the name of lightweight rear wheel drive and rather grippier than expected you know what this car is flipping brilliant around here absolutely fantastic I could do this all day long
