**The CD 900 ST: A Legendary Pair of Headphones**
I won't bore you with a 10-minute explainer on these headphones, but I'll give you the short story. The CD 900s were designed by Sony engineers in the 80s at the request of Sony Music to allow for higher-quality monitoring for recording and mastering purposes.
This was a time when CD releases increased in popularity, which is why there's a four-digit sticker on the side. It took Sony three long years worth of R&D to put the finished product to market, and initially, it was only available for corporate orders and to people "in the know." However, due to high demand from the consumer and prosumer market, Sony pushed it to full retail in 1995.
**30 Years Later: The Most Widely Used Studio Monitor in Japan**
The CD 900 ST is said to be the most widely used studio monitor in Japan, which is a big deal considering Japan has the second-biggest music market globally, only following the US. As an avid J-pop fan, I appreciate that most of my favorite music was probably mixed on these headphones.
**The Epitome of Audio Quality**
This is literally the epitome of that old sales gimmick: "I can listen to my music in the way it was originally intended." The standout feature is the detailed sense of depth paired with a sound signature that's very well-balanced. It's not too flat, with moderate bass detail and clear vocals.
**A Swiss Army Knife for Headphones**
The result is a sound that's both excellent for audio work as well as casual music listening – something I do both as a content creator and a consumer/prosumer. You can call it a "Swiss army knife" of sorts for headphones, even the build quality is something else.
**Metal Construction with Heavy Professional Work in Mind**
The CD 900 ST has metal construction with heavy professional work in mind, and it's also very repairable by design. You can probably build the headphones from scratch seeing how many parts are available for it all this said, it's not surprising that there are examples of CD 900 STs in the wild lasting upwards of 10-15 even 20 years.
**The Perfect Pair of Headphones**
Not gonna say the CD 900 ST is the perfect pair of headphones – they're the perfect pair of headphones as I mentioned in a previous video on the Xbox Series S. It packs a hell of a punch in a tiny package that you could take with you from place to place, say if you're traveling to a friend's house or a hotel or between offices like I do.
**The X Screen: A Travel-Friendly Solution**
What about if you could use it like a laptop and not have to worry about finding TVs or monitors to play on when you're out of the house? Well, thanks to the X screen, it turns out you can get pretty close. If that's something you're into – now of course this is no substitute for an actual gaming laptop as it doesn't have a built-in battery.
**The X Screen: A Sweet and Intuitive Solution**
Come on, this thing is pretty sweet especially with how well it integrates with the Series S. Not only does it mesh well with the physical design and aesthetics of the console but it has its wiring set up where the only thing you need to do is plug in one power cable into the wall and then you're gaming.
**The 11.6-Inch Display: Fantastic at 1080p**
The 11.6-inch display itself looks fantastic at 1080p, has excellent viewing angles, the speakers get very loud, and it even utilizes HDMI CEC control with the Xbox so that if you close the lid it also shuts down the console just like a laptop.
**The X Screen: A Good Implementation**
The X screen might not be a first-party product or even certified by Xbox themselves but it certainly has the attention to detail that could slightly convince me that it was however, at $250 USD it is almost the price of the Xbox Series S itself.
**In Conclusion**
That's all I got for this video. If you guys are interested in any of the stuff I've talked about, the links will be in the description. Thanks very much for watching this video on Denki Channel.
