This Year's Reading Habits: A Personal Review of 2024's Books So Far
As I sit down to write about my reading habits so far this year, I have to admit that I'm excited to share my thoughts on the books that have caught my attention. With a goal of reading 100 books in 2024, I've been diligently tracking my progress and, while it's not perfect, I'm happy with what I've accomplished so far.
One book that stands out as a clear favorite is "Funny Story" by Emily Henry. This one earned a solid five out of five stars from me, making it one of the best books I've read this year. I was thoroughly entertained and enjoyed every aspect of this story. If you're looking for a funny and engaging read, look no further than "Funny Story". Another book that's quickly become one of my all-time favorites is "Just for the Summer" by Abbi Glines, which also secured a spot at the top of my list.
In addition to these favorites, I've also enjoyed "Ride" as well as "Practice Makes Perfect", both of which are now among my top four favorite books of the year. These stories have really resonated with me, and I appreciate their unique perspectives and writing styles. On the other hand, there have been some books that didn't quite live up to my expectations. Two particular titles that come to mind include "Hate Me" by Helena Hunting and "No One Can Know" by K.A. Marshall.
While "Hate Me" didn't exactly meet my standards, I did enjoy it at first. As a huge fan of brother's best friend romances, I was eager to dive into this book. Unfortunately, it turned out to be mostly just 90% steamy times and 0% plot – not what I'm looking for in a romance novel. "No One Can Know" also fell under my least favorite category. As the second adult thriller book I've read by K.A. Marshall, I was excited to see how it would compare to her first title. Unfortunately, nothing happened when the big reveal occurred, and I just couldn't care about what had happened.
I think this might have set a bit of a sour tone for me when it comes to thrillers – only two this year, which is lower than my usual amount. This hasn't stopped me from reaching out to various publishers and authors to request new releases or titles that catch my eye. Right now, I'm strictly sticking with Romance novels because I've found them so enjoyable lately.
In any case, despite a few missteps here and there, I feel happy with how things have gone so far in 2024. I don't worry too much about the quantity of books read but rather focus on enjoying each title as it presents itself to me. The most important thing is that I'm reading – whether that's two or a hundred books, every single one brings value to my life.
Breaking down my favorite versus non-favorite titles from this year, my top four favorites so far are "Funny Story", "Just for the Summer", "Ride", and "Practice Makes Perfect". If I'm being completely honest, there haven't been many non-favorites – some books didn't exactly stand out to me or left a lasting impression. That being said, if you're interested in hearing about some of my less favorite titles, I did enjoy reading "First Line" (which counts as a thriller!) which made up for one of the lesser moments.
When breaking down these favorites versus non-favorites into specific numbers and comparing them to last year's totals, we see that this year has been quite different from 2023. While there have still been some solid reads throughout the year, I can honestly say that a lot of my favorite titles are now among those I've read recently.
In order to track progress toward my reading goals for the rest of 2024, I'll be sharing another update in August, where I'll compare what's happened so far with what's left to go. As always, it is an absolute pleasure chatting about books and connecting with fellow readers – until next time!
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhello everyone my name is Heather and today I'm going to share with you all of the books I've read in 2024 so far so we're now a quarter of the way through 2024 so I'm shabby if we're going to take it less like you know if we take off F like four of them it's like 20 but either way I think I'm pretty happy with it I think I'm doing decent so far and so if I read 30 for the next quarter and then 30 after that like that's going to be close to 100 and I'm happy about that I think that'll be great but either way it's not about the quantity my friends it's about the quality and a lot of these books I mentioned I did not Love sometimes you just read Duds and I never go into a book thinking this is going to be a dud I hope it's going to be an amazing book you know but sometimes you read books that are just amazing and I've read a fair few of them already like if I had to if we're going to break this down into like favor versus non favorites for um the year so far I mean favorites for sure standing out on top of the pack are both fun funny story and um just for the summer but also ride is up there for me and also practice makes perfect like these are like my four favorite of the year so far I would have to say like I Loved These my least favorites hands down if you hate me by Helena hunting I oh my gosh I read that book strictly because I was like I want to brother's best friend romance because I did a video about that and I had read one other hel in a hunting book before and really enjoyed it this don't bother it was just 90% steamy times and like 0% plot nothing to write home about also no one can know by K Alice Marshall like I said it's the second adult thriller book I've read by her and nothing happens when the big reveal happens I was like who cares it was boring and I think that kind of has set the tone for me because as you can see I've read I think two Thrillers this year that's pretty low for me I'm usually a third I'm usually a romance and Thriller lady that's what I like to read and I don't know if that just set a sour mood in my mouth but I haven't read any Thrillers since and I have been itching towards them I've just been strictly sticking with Romance I'm just I guess this year I'm just like I'm going to read whatever truly I want to read and I'm doing just that but yeah these have been my favorites of the year and if I had to pick some other not favorites that I didn't love um I don't know there hasn't been um a ton that I really haven't liked than the ones I can than the ones I mentioned you I mean kind of lower on the list it would be like first down it was okay it wasn't anything to write home about not rememberable also home run proposal same thing but for the most part I've had a good chunk of my reading this year of just like I wouldn't say mediocre but just Soo books they weren't horrible nor were they amazing they were just decent but these make it all worth it my friend I also also loved first li wi so we'll count that and that's a thriller so I feel somewhat decent about that but either way these are all the books I've read so far yeah I'll check in with you after August to do another one of these and we can see how many I've read in that quarter and compare in contrast with favorites and things like that I love to know how many books you've read so far this year doing good with your goal or not doing good with your goal it does not matter I think if you're reading you're reading and that is something to be proud of and I have to tell myself that a lot so it's not just like a vice I'm throwing out there I have to tell myself that a lot because a lot of people don't read nowadays so I think if you're reading that's amazing no matter how many quantity you are reading you're still reading and that my friends is awesome as always thank you so much for watching and I will see you in my next video byehello everyone my name is Heather and today I'm going to share with
