Upgrading Your Lenovo X1 Extreme Laptop: A Step-by-Step Guide
When it comes to upgrading your laptop, one of the most important things you can do is give it some TLC. The Lenovo X1 Extreme is a powerful machine that's worth throwing some upgrades at, especially when it comes to its RAM. In this article, we'll show you how to upgrade your X1 Extreme with new RAM and a cleaner interior.
First things first, let's talk about the process of upgrading your RAM. To start, you'll need an air machine or a can of compressed air to clean out any dust or debris that may be accumulated in the laptop's vents. Make sure to hold the can upright and spray it slowly at an angle, avoiding any electrical components. It's also important to note that never let your fans spin freely, as this can cause them to over-rev their bearings and potentially damage the fan itself.
Next, you'll need to attach a little weight to the laptop to get the fan spinning slowly. This will help loosen up any debris that may be stuck in the vents. Once you've got the fan spinning, take a look at the fins on the laptop's exterior. These are extremely delicate and can be easily damaged by air, so be careful not to blow too hard.
Now it's time to start upgrading your RAM. To begin, locate the two clips that hold the RAM in place. Simply pull these clips open and you'll have access to the RAM slots. For this tutorial, we'll be using a 16GB kit, but you can upgrade to as much or as little as you need.
One of the things that sets this tutorial apart from others is how easy it is to pop out the old RAM and replace it with new one. Simply flip the RAM upside down and slide it into place. It's amazing how straightforward this process is! If you do need to open up your laptop, don't worry – it's not as complicated as you might think.
Once you've installed the new RAM, make sure to secure it properly by screwing in another clip on top of the existing one. This will keep everything in place and prevent any damage to the laptop's internal components. Now that you've upgraded your RAM, let's take a look at how it affects the performance of your laptop.
With 16GB of RAM installed, this machine should handle even the most demanding tasks with ease. From video editing to gaming, this laptop is capable of delivering smooth performance. And as we'll see in the next section, upgrading the RAM also opens up new possibilities for upgrading other components in the laptop.
Cleaning Your Laptop's Interior
Before you start upgrading your RAM, it's essential to give your laptop's interior a good cleaning. The Lenovo X1 Extreme has a lot of nooks and crannies that can collect dust and debris over time, which can affect its performance. To clean out these areas, use compressed air to spray them gently. Be careful not to get any electrical components wet or dirty.
It's also worth noting that the laptop's fans are incredibly smooth and quiet once they're properly maintained. When you first turn on the laptop, you'll hear the fans spinning up – but don't worry, this is normal. The fans will slow down as the system gets warmed up, and you can even see them spinning slowly in action.
Upgrades to Consider
Now that we've shown you how to upgrade your RAM, let's talk about some other components you might consider upgrading. If you're looking for a boost in Wi-Fi performance, consider investing in an AC adapter or updating your existing one. And if you have an NVMe drive, now is the perfect time to upgrade it out with a new, faster model.
But what about the rest of the laptop? Is there anything else you can do to give your X1 Extreme some TLC? The answer is yes! Upgrading your RAM opens up new possibilities for upgrading other components in the laptop. For example, if you're feeling adventurous, you could even try popping out one of the existing RAM slots and swapping it with a newer model.
In this article, we've shown you how to upgrade your Lenovo X1 Extreme laptop with new RAM and a cleaner interior. From installing the new RAM to cleaning out the vents, this process is easy and straightforward. With 16GB of RAM installed, this machine should handle even the most demanding tasks with ease. So why not give it some TLC and see what else you can do?
WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enokay guys welcome back to the channel today we're going to do the Lenovo X1 extreme and as you can see here it looks pretty dirty so I'm getting these ready for ship out and I figured I would show you guys how to remove the back panel and what upgrade ability it has so that you could do your own thing whenever you feel that your time is to upgrade so right off the bat we're going to need a Spade or the plastic guitar pick or whatever you want to call it I use metal and a Phillips screwdriver a smaller Phillips screwdriver I use electric sorry if you hear my dog that's funny cuz it's in the he's in our bedroom in the back so there is three screws here one screw here here one here and here and they have like a little latch thing on the back so they don't fall out now this one is odd because it doesn't seem to lock I don't know so anyway you just take your pry tool and there you go very very simple you don't want to scratch or wreck your your unit the front is kind of like a slide in hinge system you just move now you have the interior of your unit here so a couple things to look for if you want to replace your RAM it's these two slots here if you need to change your seamas battery it's right here if you want to change your battery you unplug here and you'll have screws corresponding to remove the battery in this point I'm changing the uh RAM and you have an nvme right here now look at this guys on this model if you were not aware there's a second nbme slot right here so instead of upgrading your 512 or 1 TB add to it it's one beautiful thing about this machine so unlike x1's that you're familiar with yogas that aren't upgradeable well the x1's the X1 extreme is now this will probably be based on most of these units in different versions whether it's a gen 3 4 whatever this one has the 1050 TI in it 4 gig dedicated video and of course the newer ones would have like a650 and up and up and up uh so anyway this is how easy it is to get in here now one thing I want to show well right now it doesn't seem like the fans are actually dirty it was the there's some hair I'll get that huh at least I think I'll get that so if you're going to take canned air uh or an air machine like this it's going to be noisy but never let your fans spin or let them spin so what I do is I put a little bit of weight on and let it spin slowly just to get anything going that it could be you know pulling around um get into your bent don't let the F spin because if you spin uh if you spin the fan or let it freely spin too far you're probably going to over rev the bearing so it's going to turn faster than the fan was intentionally made to do that and you don't want to damage it plus see how small these fins are I've seen air just blow those fins to Pieces so you got to be very careful so again I just do a real all right so that is clean so what we're seeing over here then when I put it like this you see that must be the dirt from the the the taking in of the exhaust I'll have to get a brush so you just take like a little brush and just clean that out removing of theam is just as simple as two clips right here and pull your RAM out the ram over here so what I'll do I'll put two in just to show the units populated what pain in the butt spatula is good for a few things so we're I'm going to populate both for this video I'm going to populate both of the uh slots so you can see me basically doing an upgrade so now you're also going to see here too a longer and a shorter and you can see that from the outside here so basic basically you basically are going to flip the Ram at this point because that's the shorter side and the longer side you see that and the camera should be picking that up and that shows you how your RAM is supposed to go in I know there's easier ways to probably open it I found that one pretty easy and then again the same thing we look here and we see that the short side still over here so they're identical so basically you're just flipping your RAM upside down it's pretty cool ram it's nice and black popping it in and I tend to do a little rock block so now we both have uh both Ram slots utilized uh should be 16 gigs and in this case I'm not needing to change any of this but you can see it's just one screw right here or one screw right here and you pop another one in you have two nvmes into one machine so what we need to do now is we need to test and make sure that Ram was okay whether it's new or not you still should do this test so I'm going to just put it like this so that way we're not worried about the bottom being on here because well the Bottom's not on there power it up I hear the fans going now so you can actually see how nice and quiet and how smooth the fans are this unit still needs a cleaning and one I'm waiting for now is okay so we don't have any flashing light or anything so that's important and let's see here if it'll take a minute cuz it's got to there we go okay we're powered on press F1 to get your uh bias that is the Lenovo default entering setup so now we entered our wonderful setup here and as you can see 16 gigs of RAM installed right here and uh we know that uh we're good there we have an i78750h it's a really nice laptop but anyway it's also a laptop worth throwing some Ram or upgrades to because this is a very good even today machine so anyway guys I just wanted to show you a quick tutorial how to get in here how to do what you need to do it's very simple your Wi-Fi is here if you want to upgrade your Wi-Fi let's say until put something new out I believe this is an AC so there is ax out there now you got two nvme slots so you can actually upgrade without having to take out your other one two Ram slots now that are now populated and everything's ready to go anyway guys thanks for watching hopefully just help somebody with their X1 extreme Lenovo laptop and give it new breath but I do recommend cleaning it especially now if it's been you know one or two years you've owned this machine guaranteed inside needs some TLC game over guysokay guys welcome back to the channel today we're going to do the Lenovo X1 extreme
