JBL Flip 6 vs JBL Flip 5 - Which One Should You Get

The JBL Flip 5 vs The JBL Flip 6: A Comparative Review

When it comes to portable speakers, there are many options available on the market. Two popular models that have garnered attention from consumers and critics alike are the JBL Flip 5 and the JBL Flip 6. In this article, we will delve into a comprehensive comparison of these two speakers, highlighting their key features, differences, and similarities.

Differences in Design and Color Options

The JBL Flip 5 comes in 11 colors, offering a range of options for consumers to choose from. On the other hand, the JBL Flip 6 comes in only five colors. While the design of both speakers is similar, with a compact and waterproof body, the Flip 5 has a slightly more vibrant appearance. The speaker's color palette is an important factor to consider for those who want a visually appealing accessory.

Differences in Sound Quality

When it comes to sound quality, both speakers are capable of producing clear and crisp audio. However, there are some notable differences between the two. The JBL Flip 6 has a more advanced Bluetooth version, with Bluetooth 5.1 compared to the Flip 5's Bluetooth 4.2. This means that the Flip 6 can handle more complex music files and provide a more stable connection.

The JBL Flip 5 also lacks an EQ (equalizer) setting, which allows users to adjust the sound profile to their liking. On the other hand, the JBL Flip 6 comes with an integrated EQ, enabling users to customize the sound quality using the speaker's app. While this feature may not be a deal-breaker for some users, it can be a major advantage for those who want more control over their audio experience.

Water Resistance

Both speakers are designed to be water-resistant, but the JBL Flip 6 has a higher rating, with IP67 dust and water resistance compared to the Flip 5's IPX7. While both ratings may seem similar, the IP67 rating means that the Flip 6 is more resistant to dust and water.

Price

The main difference between the two speakers lies in their prices. The JBL Flip 5 retails at $110, while the JBL Flip 6 retails at $130. This adds 20 dollars to the price of the Flip 6 compared to the Flip 5.

App

Both speakers come with an accompanying app that allows users to adjust settings and customize their audio experience. However, the app for the JBL Flip 6 is more comprehensive, offering features such as EQ adjustments, voice assistant integration, and customizable presets.

Comparing Sound Quality: The Verdict

To compare the sound quality of both speakers, we conducted a series of tests using the same song, volume level, and settings. While the results were close, there was a noticeable difference in terms of bass response. The JBL Flip 6 produced a cleaner and more controlled bass, which resonated through our body. In contrast, the JBL Flip 5's bass sounded slightly muddy.

However, when we adjusted the volume to its maximum level, the JBL Flip 6 still couldn't match the volume of the Flip 5. While the Flip 6 had a slight advantage in terms of clarity and precision, it was not loud enough to surpass the Flip 5.

Conclusion

The choice between the JBL Flip 5 and the JBL Flip 6 ultimately comes down to personal preference and budget. If you already have the Flip 5 and are satisfied with its performance, there's no need to upgrade to the Flip 6. However, if you're in the market for a new portable speaker, the Flip 6 is definitely worth considering.

The JBL Flip 6 offers a range of improvements over the Flip 5, including Bluetooth 5.1 and IP67 dust and water resistance. Additionally, its integrated EQ setting provides users with more control over their audio experience. While the sound quality may not be drastically different between the two speakers, the Flip 6's enhanced features make it a superior choice for those willing to spend a bit more.

On a scale of one to ten, both speakers receive high marks for their performance and design. However, if I had to give a verdict, I would say that the JBL Flip 6 is a major upgrade over its predecessor.

at the back of the fly here's the five and the six let's see put them side by side pretty much exactly the same size on the flip five it does say five on the back but the flip five doesn't have that little groove so you notice it rolls around this one has that little groove so that's going to keep it from rolling i like that let's see as far as the buttons exactly the same okay there's one side there's the other side let's see carrying straps pretty much the same okay so like i said the cheapest i found this for on amazon for the five 110 bucks you can find it a little bit cheaper if you get a renewed version but i would recommend against buying renewed speakers okay because they blew out for a reason you don't want to do that just buy it brand new for 110 bucks or 130 bucks okay so now let me go ahead and pair these up and we'll start our usual testing talk amongst yourselves all right josh will be back in now before i pair this up let's take a look at the jbl portable music app and of these speakers now if you got an older jbl speaker with connect plus you can pair the jbl flip 4 to the pulse 3 to the charge 4 xtreme 2 or boombox so if you got any one of these older speakers you cannot use party boost has to be one of these newer ones now for the pairing process real simple once you power up the speaker it's going to be in bluetooth parent mode go to your phone's bluetooth menu and select the jbl flip 6. next you're going to take it over to the app the first thing you want to do is download the latest update all right so now that we did the update let's walk through the headphones on here we go so yes okay now this sounds pretty dope now here's what i'm gonna do i'm gonna start the song over again and this time we'll play with some of the eq settings okay here we go same thing max volume let's raise a little trouble so uh i love the way these radiators shake that's so dope i like this one the best settings okay i was back here jamming out this speaker sounds incredible okay now if you ever had any jbl speakers you already know what to expect that jbl pro sound heavy on the bass crystal clear highs nice mids alright so if you want a balanced sound play with the eq drop that bass a little but if you like bass you're gonna like jbl speakers now this is important let's do a side-by-side test with the jbl flip 5 and the flip 6 and see if there's any difference in the loudness and the sound quality all right so let's do a quick recap of the differences between the 5 and the 6 because i left one out so remember for the jbl flip 5 110 bucks flip 6 130 bucks flip 5 comes in 11 colors flip six comes in five colors for the five you got bluetooth version 4.2 for the six bluetooth version 5.1 for the 5 it's ipx7 water resistant for the 6 ip67 dust and water resistant and the last thing is the app okay now the 6 does have an eq the 5 has no eq that's a huge upgrade you can add more bass more treble and more mids with the six you're stuck on one sound signature with the five okay so to make this 100 fair i'm gonna leave the jbl flip six eq on the stock settings so we got the same exact phone same song max volume and we're gonna do this scientifically all right so let's start off with the jbl flip five okay so the max we seen was a 96. now here's the jbl flip 6. so okay now you've seen that for yourself now even without using this they pretty much sound identical but i will say this the jbl flip 6 the bass sounds a little bit cleaner now i got my elbow resting on the table i could feel more of the bass in my elbow on the 6 then the 5. now let's try that one more time with a different song okay here we go here's the jbl flip 5. so okay we've seen an 89 here's the jbl flip 6. again you seen it for yourself they pretty much sound the same now if i wasn't holding that instrument and i was just listening to both of these i would think these are the same speaker okay honestly they pretty much sound the same let's go ahead and wrap this up now let me answer that question which one should you get the jbl flip 5 or the jbl flip 6 the answer is real simple if you already got the 5 there's no reason to upgrade and get the 6. they pretty much sound the same but if you don't have either one go with the flip six it's only twenty dollars more you got a better bluetooth connection it's dust and water resistant but most importantly you can change the eq settings using the app anyway overall on a scale of 1-10 both of these speakers are dope but the jbl flip 6 is a major major major go now i want to show y'all one more thing just to get you on the fence you don't know which one should you get the six or charge five let me show you the difference in the sound quality okay so we're gonna do the same test both of these are max volume same song same everything this time we're going to start off with the jbl flip 6. okay now here's the charge five okay now i don't know if y'all could hear the difference over this youtube video but it's not that much louder but the base is definitely hitting harder and it's cleaner all right it's a little bit louder it's not blowing it out the water but it's definitely louder okay and it definitely has more base but it's a little bit bigger to carry okay this one is going to go in your bag a lot easier this one is more heavy and more more harder to carry around anyway jbl flip six on a scale of one to ten it's a triple major goat hit me up in the comments let me know what y'all think about this one shout out to everybody rocking with me on facebook
