Galaxy S8 vs OnePlus 3T - Which Should You Buy _ The Tech Chap

The Samsung Galaxy S8 vs Samsung Galaxy Note 3 (3T) Camera Comparison

I took both phones to my local pub and tested their camera capabilities under various lighting conditions. While I expected the S8 to outperform the 3T, I was pleasantly surprised by how well they both handled low-light photography. However, upon closer inspection, it became clear that the S8's wide aperture of f/1.7 gave it an edge in terms of brightness and detail. For example, the coat on the back of the chair in one of the photos was much brighter and more detailed on the S8's image.

On the other hand, the 3T's camera performed admirably, especially when zooming in at 200%. While there were some minor artifacts and noise visible on the 3T's picture between the purple light at the back of the desk and the bottom of the monitor, these issues were only noticeable under close examination. When viewing the photos online, such as on Facebook or Instagram, the differences between the two phones became less apparent.

In terms of color accuracy and dynamic range, the S8 also took the lead, capturing more detail and a wider field of view compared to the 3T. However, it's worth noting that both cameras performed well in terms of overall image quality, with excellent colors and vibrant tones. The S8's camera was particularly impressive when transitioning from light to dark, with fewer blown-out shadows compared to the 3T.

Moving on to video recording, I tested both phones with a quick 4K video. While both cameras delivered impressive results in terms of detail and image quality, the S8's stabilization proved to be significantly better than the 3T's. The S8's camera was able to transition smoothly from light to dark areas without any noticeable artifacts or distortion, whereas the 3T struggled with blown-out shadows.

In terms of battery life, I conducted a test with both phones, simulating various usage patterns such as YouTube, Spotify, and gaming. While the 3T had an advantage in terms of screen size and battery capacity, its newer hardware proved to be more power-efficient when running intensive apps. The S8 still managed to outlast the 3T by about 6 hours, with both phones comfortably reaching six hours of screen-on time.

Despite the S8's technical advantages, it's worth noting that the 3T is significantly cheaper than its flagship rival. With a price difference of around £300, the 3T offers an attractive alternative for those who want a high-quality camera without breaking the bank.

Ultimately, the choice between the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Samsung Galaxy Note 3 (3T) comes down to personal preference and budget. While the S8 is undoubtedly the better camera, its premium price tag may be out of reach for many users. On the other hand, the 3T's impressive performance and lower price point make it an attractive option for those who prioritize value over raw camera capabilities.

As a tech enthusiast and YouTube personality, I must confess that having the best camera possible is important to me. In this case, I would personally prefer the S8 due to its superior image quality and camera features. However, for most people, the 3T offers an excellent balance of performance and affordability.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enokay so we all know the SA and the three t are great phones has been a billion s eight review saying how is the best phone ever made and I actually recently did a long-term review of the three T proving it still stands up as a great buy in 2017 but now we've got them together side by side to find out how much of a difference there really is between them and which one you should buy one plus three T we'll see you back 400 pounds versus 689 pounds for the s8 so you could get a three T and a Nintendo switch for the same price as the s8 but does that mean you should well let's start by looking at the design I think most of us would agree the s8 comes out on top here honestly for me it's the biggest jump in smartphone design since the galaxy s3 it looks super futuristic and it kind of makes every other phone look a bit dated in comparison I also think it's more comfortable to hold thanks for the curved screen and rounded corners I'm also pleased to say it doesn't have the same palm rejection issues that the s7 edge had I still think the 3t looks great especially with its metal body which from the back actually kind of reminds me of the fantastic HTC m7 and m8 phones of course it also has the added benefit of not being a huge fingerprint magnet like the s8 is speaking of which I really don't like the s8 fingerprint reader it's not particularly fast and it's also just really difficult to get to it's right at the top of the phone just next to the camera and it doesn't really feel a different to the camera lens so you just don't know if you put your finger on the camera lens or the fingerprint reader it's just a bit of a pain and can I wish it was on the home button like it is with your three teen size-wise the s8 looks and feels smaller than the 3t even though it's got a bigger 5.8 inch screen versus 5.5 on the 3t and that's thanks to these super thin bezels or what Samsung is calling the infinity display which has a screen to body ratio of 83 percent versus 73 percent on the 3/2 so the s8 has a bigger screen it's got a more compact design it's better protected as well thanks to guerrilla class 5 it's also IP 68 dust and water resistant which the 3t doesn't have any water resistance at all so in terms of design I think it's kind of a home run to the essay but what about their displays well aside from the slightly peculiar longer aspect ratio on the s8 to the naked eye does not actually that much difference considering they're both using an OLED panels but the s8 does have a couple of tricks up its sleeve while the 3 T settles for a full HD resolution the s8 goes for a quad HD plus resolution which gives you a much sharper pixel density of 570 PPI versus 401 but having said that the essay actually defaults to a full HD plus resolution to save battery although you obviously have the option to increase it but at the same time I really don't think you're going to be able to tell a difference unless you put the screen well up to your eye between HD and quad HD but what could be a big deal is that the s8 has a HDR premium certified screen although we're still waiting for Netflix and Amazon to update their apps to support mobile HDR streaming in a few weeks at some point soon hopefully you should be able to watch the likes of the Grand Tour or whatever else in HD are on the phone which is pretty exciting so again the s8 has a bigger sharper and HDR compatible screen so I think it wins that as well ok so that's all good so far but what about the speed and performance how do they compare well in terms of specs the s8 has a brand new Snapdragon 835 or X not 895 depending on where you live here in the UK I've got the eggs-mas version and that's backed up with 4 gigabytes of RAM the 3t obviously being a 2016 phone comes with the previous top end Snapdragon 820 1 along with a whopping 6 gigabytes of RAM in Geekbench fought they both score around the 2000 mark for single core performance where the s8 is 51% faster than the 3t in multi-core that's pretty big but as we all know benchmarks and real-world performance are two very different things so let's kick off with an ad opening speed test starting off the s8 does seem to load games faster than the 3t but by the end the 3t catches up and the final scores are actually pretty neck-and-neck there's less than a two-second difference between them although I was then curious to see whether the three T's extra two gigs of RAM made any difference so I went back to the first app once they've all been opened to see if either phones had kept it cached so I could resume it but unfortunately both had to reload the app from scratch suggesting the three T's extra two gigs of RAM doesn't really make that much of a difference but of course playing games they're both insanely fast and they handle everything I threw at them flawlessly and really there wasn't any appreciable difference in graphics quality or screen rate so yeah on paper the SA is faster and marginally quicker opening apps but really there's very little in hardware is only half the battle lift that to be honest software is a lot more important and both phones come running the latest Android 7 new guard although at the time of filming the 3t has the more recent 7.1.1 software to the s 87.0 but really the big difference is the skins the software on top the s8 Samsung experienced UI and the three T's oxygen OS you I couldn't be more different with oneplus offering an ear stock Android experience which generally feels a little bit snappier even though the SI is a bit more powerful so between the two I think I actually prefer the three T's stock Android or close to stock Android at least UI although the SI is still very nice to use and feels much faster than the s7 which ran TouchWiz okay moving on camera quality this is usually the part which separates mid-range absorbs not quite flagship phones where the top-end flagship phones picture quality video quality is usually what suffers the most between these super high-end and slow more mid-range phones so let's take a look so in this first picture the SI on the right is noticeably brighter and also has better dynamic range some of the clouds in the 3t photo are kind of blown out whereas the s8 handles the contrast much better moving on to this picture of a house the both produce great photos is kind of hard to see any difference between them although if we zoom in a hundred percent the three team does seem to produce photos with a slightly greenish tint where the si is more true to life but this is a very small difference and really a bit nitpicking but what about in low-light conditions well I took the phones to my local pub and once again there isn't a huge difference although overall the SI produces brightest shots for example the coat on the back of the chair you can see is much brighter and more detailed in the essays picture thanks to its wide @f 1.7 aperture but there's 2.0 and the three-team I reckon it's time for a pint and here it becomes clear the s8 handles the contrast between lights and darks the dynamic range much better than the 3t so I've gone RGB mad in this last photo but it's a good test of very low light conditions and they actually both perform pretty well but if we zoom in 200% you can see some strange artifacting a noise on a three T's picture between the purple light at the back of the desk and the bottom of the monitor but again this is really only under close examination if you just bring these photos on Facebook or Instagram you're not really going to notice now everyone loves a good selfie except me it seems and there's quite a big difference between them actually the 3t looks more realistic and has a wider field of view whereas the si is more warm and vibrant but the Samsung does seem to capture more detail and finally we've got a quick 4k video right away it's obvious the s8 stabilization is much better than a 3t although they both do have oh is detail is impressive on both but once again the s8 demonstrates it can handle the transition from light to dark better look at the clouds of a turn away from the plant towards the field and the three-peat is completely blown out for a second or two whereas the s8 transitions much more quickly and more smoothly so overall we both perform really well but consistently the s8 does come out on top whether it's of brightness color accuracy all most commonly much better dynamic range so there is a difference between them but whether you think the s8 camera and image quality is 300 pounds better than the three T's well that's up to you and how much you value on having the best smartphone camera you can get so that's all well and good so far but a lot of it matters if your phone is dead or doesn't last to the end of this day so how do they compare in terms of battery life well on paper the 3t has an advantage thanks to smaller screen and bigger 2400 milliamp hour battery compared to just three thousand on the s8 but then again the s8 has newer and more power efficient hardware so I put them to the test with all background apps closed one is set to 50% and power saving mode off for this test after an hour of YouTube an hour of Spotify and an hour of gaming the 3t was left with 61% of its battery remaining whereas surprisingly the s8 still had 67% left although interestingly after the first hour of YouTube the 3t hadn't lost 8% to the s8 10% and it was during the hour of gaming the 3t fell behind and it seems the SA is more power efficient when running more intensive apps they both support fast charging through the USB seaports although the s8 does also support wireless charging but both phones comfortably got me through a full day we're looking about six hours of screen on time for both they're actually pretty similar in terms of overall battery life but if you're a big gamer it looks like the s8 is the better choice so there we have it the three T versus the s8 as we all pretty much expected the SA is better in pretty much every way but of course the three T came out last year and it is 300 pounds cheaper so it's never going to directly compete that with a job of the upcoming 1 + 5 so it's actually very impressive how well this thing keeps up with the current flagship s8 which pretty much everyone's calling the best phone in the world right now now for me I use my phone all the time and actually having the best camera possible is quite important to me so personally I would buy the s8 but then again I'm a tech enthusiast and tech youtuber I think for most people the 3t really is the best choice and it's much better value for money so a Keller comes down to personal preference and budget but hopefully
