iPhone XS Max Unboxing (Gold 512GB)

Unboxing the Apple iPhone XS Max: A First Look

What's up guys? Saf here on SuperSafTV and look what we have here. Yes, of course, it is indeed the brand new Apple iPhone XS Max. This is the whopping 512 gigabyte version and it is in the new gold color. You might have seen a few unboxings, but I think this is the first unboxing from the UK, so the thumbs up for that would be appreciated. We also do have the iPhone XS, which we'll be looking at in the next video and we'll compare that to the iPhone X in a bit of side by side detail. So, do also look out for that, but let's get straight into the XS Max.

The box is pretty similar to what we've had in previous versions. The Apple logo at the top and bottom, and the Apple logo on the left and right. The iPhone logo and the Apple logo are in gold, however. And here at the front, we've got a picture of the XS Max with this planet. I believe you're going to get slightly different colored planet depending on the color you go for. One thing you will notice is that we can't actually see the notch here because it's blacker. I'm not sure if this has been done deliberately, but anyway, let's get this out of the plastic.

Initially, presented with designed by Apple in California, little pack here. Oh yeah, that does look pretty cool. The packaging is sleek and minimalist, which is what we expect from Apple. Now, let's take a closer look at the device itself. We've got a stainless steel frame, which is gold, and it's color coded, so that does look pretty cool.

Taking a Look Around the Device

We do have a stainless steel frame, which is gold, which is nice. It's color coded, so that does look pretty cool. At the bottom, we have the lightning port. There are two grills, which are not symmetrical this time. Last year, they were symmetrical. This time, we've got the speaker and then we've got the mic, but on one side, we do only have four grills, whereas on the other side, we have three, seven grills. That's interesting.

On the right-hand side, we've got the power button as well as the SIM card tray. On the left-hand side, we've got the volume button as well as the mute switch. Nothing at the top. Moving onto the back, we do have this beautiful gold color. I'm definitely digging this gold compared to what we had on the iPhone 8 plus last year. We've got the Apple logo in the middle. There's also the iPhone logo at the bottom, and then we've got some FCC information. This is something that we do unfortunately, have in Europe. I hate all of those comments. I'm sure there's still going to be some comments saying "I hate FCC regulations" or whatever.

Inside the Notch: Face ID and Front-Facing Camera

We've got more pixels in total because of the larger display compared to the iPhone X and XS. But the pixel density is exactly the same, so in terms of sharpness, all be the same, 458 ppi. Inside that notch, of course, we have all of those sensors, so we do have Face ID's improved compared to last year, so it should be faster. As well as that, we've got the front-facing camera, which has also improved. We've got 7 megapixels with an F2.2 aperture, but we do have a faster sensor.

This front-facing camera, thanks to the Apple A12 Bionic chip, is going to give you some improvements. Firstly, we do have a portrait mode from the front-facing camera, which this time is going to give you depth control, so you'll be able to edit the blur after the fact. That's something I'm really excited to check out. But more so, in the side of video, we've got some improvements. We've got 1080p, up to 60 frames a second, so that should great for vlogging. As well as that, we apparently do have stabilization from the front-facing camera. This is something that we've not had previously. I cannot wait to test this out and put it up against another camera.

The Camera: A New Era

So, let me tell you more about this new front-facing camera. We've got 7 megapixels with an F2.2 aperture, but we do have a faster sensor. The camera app is pretty intuitive, and we've got all the standard features like HDR, flash, and more. But what I'm really excited about is the depth control feature in portrait mode. This is something that Apple has been working on for a while now, and it's finally available on the XS Max.

We also have stabilization from the front-facing camera, which is something that we've not had previously. I cannot wait to test this out and put it up against another camera. We'll see how well it performs in different lighting conditions, and whether it can keep up with the competition. But for now, let's take a closer look at the camera features.

The front-facing camera is one of the two speakers, so we do have stereo speakers. We've got wider stereo speakers compared to last year, so as well as the immersive viewing experience, you should be getting some immersive audio too.

California, little pack here.Oh yeah, that does look really dope.I'm digging this new gold color.I'm just going to leave thatto the side for a secondand we're going to see whatelse we get inside the box. Now, the stuff inside thebox is pretty much the sameas what we get everyyear with one exception, which we'll come to in a second. So this is the Quick Startguide, SIM card ejector tool, some safety info, Apple stickers,USB type A lightning cable, a power brick. Now unfortunately, this is nota fast charging power brick, although fast charging issupported on the XS Max,so I was hoping they'dinclude the fast chargeout of the box this time. This is not the case.If you want to see a charging speed testof the XS Max becauseof that bigger batterycompared to other devices SuperSaf style, then definitely let meknow in the comments belowand we can look at thatwith the fast charger,as well as with the regular chargerto see how much of a difference it is.And finally, we have theApple lightning ear pods. Now, the difference thisyear is that we no longerhave a 3.5 mm to lightning dongle. This is something that has been includedon the previous couple of year iPhonessince we got rid of the headphone jack.It looks like Apple isvery keen to go wireless,so if you do have some 3.5 mm headphones, you will have to buy the dongle separatelyif you don't have one already.Right now, let's get tothe phone and probably, what's the most satisfying part of my job,and that is taking off this plastic.Let's do it.Oh yeah. So, so satisfying. Now, just quickly bringing in the iPhone Xhere for size comparison. It's definitely quite a bitbigger compared to the iPhone X.But in comparison tosomething like the iPhone 7or 8 plus, it's actuallyroughly about the same size.Although we do have a much larger displaycompared to something like the 8 plus, which has a 5.5 inch display, here we've got a 6.5 inch display.I've just switched it on.Let's go ahead and set this up.UK.And we do have Quick Start onhere, which is really cool. You can just bring closeyour existing iPhone,if you have one.We can just unlock tocontinue and we shouldjust get it set up from here.Alright.Finishing on new iPhone.I really do like this feature. It makes the transferprocess so much easier.Just quickly run through all the settingsand we have set up face ID as well. What's interesting is that I didn't haveto insert a SIM card.Usually you do have to have a SIM card. And the reason for that is this time,we do have dual sensesupport, one physical SIM,and the other is an eSIM.eSIM support is not going to be outright.Where it's going to comeby a software update. And unless you're in China, you have to use an eSIMas one of your two SIMs.The only place wheretwo physical SIM cardsare going to be supportedwill be in China. And there we have it.Look at that display. It's absolutely stunning. We've got a display likewe had on the iPhone X,which means we've gotgreat contrast ratio. We got inky blacks and the viewing angleis also very, very good. Now it actually has beenimproved a little bitcompared to last year. We've got 60% better dynamic range.First impressions are really good. We've got the smallbezel all the way around. With that notch, of course,as mentioned a little bitearlier on, because of this wallpaper, you can't fully see that notch. Now, we've got more pixels in totalbecause of the larger display comparedto the iPhone X and XS.But the pixel density is exactly the same,so in terms of sharpness, all be the same, 458 ppi. Now, inside that notch, of course,we have all of those sensors,so we information. This is something thatwe do, unfortunately, have in Europe.I hate all of those comments.I'm sure there's stillgoing to be some commentssaying, \"Oh, this is a fake unitbecause they don't have these anymore.\"Yes, they don't have themin places like the US,but unfortunately, in theUK, we still have this. Now with this glass, Apple is sayingis the most durableglass on any smartphone. Not on any iPhone, anysmartphone out there.I'm sure my buddy Zackfrom JerryRigEverythingwill be doing a durabilitytest very, very soon.So we'll find out exactlyhow durable this glass is.This here, we've also got IP68water and dust resistance.Last year, we had IP67.What this basically meansis that you're goingto be able to submerge this into waterup to 2 meters instead of 1 meter comparedto last year for 30 minutes.Might not be a big deal for some, but it's definitely awelcomed improvement. Now, let's talk aboutthe rear facing cameras. So we've got a dual 12megapixel camera setup, both with optical stabilization, like we had last year. And the secondary camera,as far as I'm aware,is very similar to whatwe had last year as well. That has two times opticalzoom and an F2.4 aperture. The primary camera, however, has had an upgrade. And although it does have thesame aperture as last year,F1.8, it does now have a larger sensor, which should help with the low light, but we've also got improved HDR.So we've got Smart HDR, whichI keep calling Super HDRfor some reason, and that'sgoing to take multiple shotswhen you take the one shot. It's going to combine them togetherto give you better dynamic range. And once again, we do haveportrait mode with depth control,so you can take apicture, and then you canadjust the boca affect after the fact. This is something that Icannot wait to test out,so stayed tuned on the channel to see lotsof camera test on this.Video has also been improved,so we've got extendeddynamic range for up to frames a second. But as well as that, wehave, finally, finally, stereo audio recording for video. This is something that Ihave been ranting aboutfor many, many yearsand I'm really excitedto test out the stereo audio recordingside-by-side with some other devices. Finally, we have this.I'm super happy about it.And finally the battery,we've got the largest batteryon any iPhone right now. We'll see how long it lasts. And we do also have wireless charginglike we had last year. Now pricing wise, thisthing does not compete. It starts at $1,100 or 1,100 pounds. And if you do want to getthe 512 gigabyte version, you're going to be lookingat 1,450 pounds or dollars, which I believe makes thisone of the most expensivesmartphones out there.Of course, if you don't wantto go for the larger version, you can go for the iPhone XS,which is slightly cheaper. There's going to be the iPhoneXR, which we'll be coveringvery, very soon, too. What do you guys thinkof the iPhone XS Max?And definitely let me knowin the comments below. And also let me know in the comments belowwhat coverage you'd like me to do withthe iPhone XS Max, of course. There's going to be lotscoming here on the channel. So if you haven't already, then be sure to subscribeand switch on notifications.I hope you enjoyed thisvideo and found it useful. If you did, do hit that thumbs up for me.Thanks for watching, thisis Saf on SuperSafTV.I'll see you next time.(upbeat music)The primary camera how..,the primary camera how...,the primary cam,the primary camera, the primary camera however.\n"
