What up guys? I'm Matt Field, and we're here at my shop, Drift Cave, to introduce you to something kinda cool - the next step in my drifting career: my new car.
I'm standing in front of a 2013 Chevrolet Corvette, and I have to say, it's looking good. Today's the day that I'm going to be rolling it into my shop, starting the tear-down process, and building this thing from the ground up.
The first step is to take out the interior. It's gross, moldy, and needs some serious TLC. The seats are already out, which makes me happy because I don't have to deal with that mess anymore. This is literally the worst part about building a car - taking all the stock crap out.
So, we're starting to work on the front end now. The interior's pretty much as stripped as it's gonna be. We've got some helpers here, and they're all excited to meet you guys. You've got Ty Milner, and I think he's trying to get this blower motor out for like an hour now.
It's about to come out, and Raymond and David are here to pull the window. What do you think? Are you gonna break it? Yeah, we got it! This car was a flood-damaged car that came from Atlanta. It just found a shell buried down in there, which is what I like to call a "flood story."
So, we've got this blower motor out, and now we're pulling the motor and the trans and subframes, everything. It's starting to come apart at the seams, but we're making progress. We're lifting the body off the tube and wheels, and it's amazing how much space is in there.
We had to disconnect the A-arms, obviously, we just clipped like the ABS stuff, and clipped the fuel lines. But other than that, this thing is literally four bolts on the front subframe and four bolts on the rear subframe - it comes out!
It's the end of Day 2, things are looking pretty good. We've got the engine down to pretty much just that, with the torque tube and the trans and the diff in the back, and then the chassis. Tomorrow we'll get this all broken down, get the chassis outside, get it pressure washed because there's like buckets of sand still left in the chassis.
Then we'll start going. We'll start taking the engine apart from the rest of the torque tube/corvette penisTransmission, trans-axle setup. It's pretty straightforward, and after we're done with that, we'll take the fuel lines, all this crap out of the chassis, drop the gas tanks, and blast it, clean it up.
We've got the chassis torn down, all the useless crap out, thrown away. And next week, we're gonna start fab work. We're gonna start building our roll cage, getting our seat fit up, making filler panels to cover up the firewall, so be sure to check back in next Tuesday and let us know what you wanna see more of!
