FIRST BOOK HAUL OF 2018

**Bookshelf Confessions**

I'm sitting here surrounded by my book collection, and I have to admit, I'm really excited about what's on my shelves. The first thing that caught my eye was this trilogy by Susanna Clark, also known as "Discworld" in some circles. I've always been a fan of fantasy and science fiction, and I think I'll start with the first book, "The Colour of Magic". According to my memory, it's about a young tourist named Rincewind who gets caught up in all sorts of adventures on the Discworld. It's said that this world is flat, but upside down, and it's home to all sorts of strange creatures.

Moving on, I have "Into the Water" by Paula Hawkins, another author whose previous works I've enjoyed. If you haven't read her book "The Girl on the Train", I highly recommend it. It's about a woman named Jules Abbott who receives a mysterious phone call from her sister Nell in the days leading up to her death. Nell had called Jules for help, but she never answered, and now Nell is dead, allegedly by her own hand. The story follows Jules as she returns to the place where it all started, hoping to escape the darkness of her past.

Next up is "Waking God" (also known as "Survey Nouveau"), a book that has been on my wishlist for ages. I've seen the cover and just love the design, so I decided to take the plunge and buy it. The title is French, which is always a bonus in my opinion. It's part of a trilogy called "The Famous Files" or "Dems Files", but I'm not entirely sure what that means. I did see a book called "Sleeping Giants" on its cover, so I assume there might be some connection between the two.

I've also recently picked up "Dead of Night" and "Full of Night" by Jonathan Maberry, both of which are zombie novels. Yes, you read that right – zombies! Although I love anything related to these creatures, I'm not sure why I haven't read a proper zombie novel before now. The premise of the first book is intriguing: a serial killer wakes up in a prison after being injected with a mysterious formula designed to keep his consciousness awake. The second book promises to be just as exciting, if not more so.

As I scroll through my shelves, I come across "The Day of the Triffids" by John Wyndham, another classic in the science fiction genre. I watched an adaptation of this novel years ago and thought it was absolutely crazy – like a sci-fi version of Jumanji! The story takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where strange plants called the Triffids have taken over after some sort of catastrophe.

Finally, I've got "The War of the Worlds" by HG Wells, which I won on Goodreads. It's set in Victorian England and follows the story of a Martian invasion that threatens humanity's very existence. The twist is that this is not a Hollywood adaptation – it's actually an American production set in England. I'm excited to dive into this classic novel and see how it compares to my favorite film adaptation.

**The Shelf Life**

I've been meaning to get back to reading for ages, but life has gotten in the way. With so many great books on my shelves, I feel like I have a never-ending adventure waiting for me. From fantasy and science fiction to mystery and horror, there's something for everyone on this bookshelf of mine.

**A World Without Limits**

I love how books can transport us to different worlds and make us question the status quo. Whether it's a post-apocalyptic landscape or a strange and magical realm, reading allows us to explore new ideas and perspectives that might not be possible in our everyday lives. For me, this shelf is more than just a collection of books – it's a portal to new adventures and discoveries waiting to happen.

**Getting Back on Track**

Now that I've opened up my bookshelf, I feel like I'm getting back on track with my reading goals. With these exciting titles lined up, I'm ready to dive into the world of fiction once again. Whether it's exploring a strange and magical Discworld or battling Martians in a war-torn England, I know that I'll find plenty of entertainment and inspiration among these books.

**A Shelf Full of Surprises**

As I look at my bookshelf, I realize just how much there is to discover within its pages. From zombies to Martian invasions, this shelf holds it all – a world of science fiction, fantasy, mystery, and horror waiting to be explored. With each new title that catches my eye, I feel like I'm unlocking a secret door to a new adventure, one that will take me on a journey through the pages of my favorite books.

**Getting Lost in a Good Book**

There's something special about losing oneself in a good book – getting lost in the world of fiction and exploring all its twists and turns. Whether it's following Rincewind on his adventures or battling zombies alongside Nell, I know that these books will take me to places I've never been before.

**The Next Great Adventure**

As I close this shelf and make my way to the next chapter in my reading journey, I'm filled with excitement and anticipation. What wonders await me within these pages? Will I find myself transported to a strange and magical world or battling Martians in a war-torn England? The possibilities are endless, and I can't wait to see where this new adventure takes me.

I think this goes back in time before Lyra but anyway I'm really excited because I thoroughly enjoyed that trilogy when I read it at about 12 I'm actually rereading the trilogy now so that I can then read this after I think there's going to be more than one as well seeing as we've got bullying one label down here stickers are literally the worst why do people put stickers on cameras going to cover up because it looks so bad so the next book is into the water by Paula Hawkins this is another book by the same writer of the girl on the train which if you haven't read is really good or you could just watch the film which was also really good I'm not gonna lie I have no idea what it's about but my mom gave me a after she'd finished reading it so the blurb says in the last days before her death not sure how to pronounce it it says so take that I bought the first one sleeping giants because the cover was basically exactly the same as this but a different face and some slightly different coloring it wasn't green but they had the dark and the spotty and it just really caught my eye and I love anything sci-fi and anything a bit scary I haven't actually read the first one because I have a serious amount of books to read as you could probably say but what I saw this one waterstones I thought well I'm gonna have to buy eventually anyway so I'll get it now next is Sleeping Beauty's by Stephen King and his son Owen King I believe it's about a woman who was in a female prison and something basically like in facts every woman on the planet I think and turns them into pods sort of like the middle stage of a caterpillar to a butterfly and then when they wake I'm pretty sure they're monsters or something and this woman isn't affected so she's in the middle of a female prison and I suppose she gets into a bit of a pickle I picked up these two secondhand they are called dead of night and full of night and they're both by Jonathan Marbury Marbury basically I've never read a zombie novel even though I love anything zombie so when I saw them I thought okay this could be my first I suppose this is number one this is number two I actually can't read this because there's another kind of have a mind of their own but they literally all the killing machines and yeah I thought it was short so I would give it a read lastly I have all my favorite book to film adaptations which is a war of the worlds by HG Wells obviously I've watched the film it's what my favorites ever with Tom Cruise that is set in America though interestingly enough this is set in Victorian England so it's in a completely different time and it is in a completely different country I guess it will be really interesting to read interesting fact I actually won this on a Goodreads competition so enter them because apparently somebody wins and I won this one and yeah I never win anything so I was pretty surprised but also very happy if you haven't watched the film the general gist is these big machines
