This Walmart Gaming Laptop Doesn't Suck...

**Walmart Gaming Laptop Review**

The Walmart Gaming Laptop is a surprising find in the world of gaming laptops. At first glance, it may seem like another mediocre option, but upon closer inspection, it reveals itself to be a capable and affordable machine.

**Price Point**

One of the standout features of this laptop is its price point. When it was first released, it was available for $1,000, but our reviewer managed to snag one for $700, and as of now, it's available for an even more impressive $600 on Walmart's website.

**Specs**

The specs are solid, with a Core i5 8300H processor that's a quad-core powerhouse. While the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 might not be the most powerful GPU, it still delivers decent performance for games at 1080p and lower resolutions. The laptop also features a 144Hz display, which is a nice touch.

**Ports and Connectivity**

The laptop has a respectable selection of ports, including USB 3.0, SD card, mini DisplayPort, HDMI, USB C, and Ethernet. This makes it easy to connect all your peripherals and expand the laptop's capabilities.

**Keyboard and Touchpad**

The mechanical keyboard is a nice surprise, offering tactile feedback and customizable RGB lighting. While it may not be as responsive as some higher-end keyboards, it's still a solid option for gaming and everyday use.

**Upgrade Options**

One of the standout features of this laptop is its ease of upgrade. The reviewer was able to easily access the RAM, SSD, and hard drive, making it simple to add more memory or swap out storage options.

**Gaming Performance**

The laptop's performance in games like Fortnite, Black Ops, and Overwatch is respectable, with frame rates ranging from 60-90 FPS at 1080p. While the GTX 1050 may not be able to handle high-end settings, it still delivers smooth performance for lower resolutions and detail settings.

**Conclusion**

Overall, the Walmart Gaming Laptop is a surprising find that offers great value for its price point. While it may not be the most powerful laptop on the market, it's a solid option for those looking for an affordable gaming machine with decent specs and upgrade options.

WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: en- Hey guys, this is Austin. This is the Walmart Gaming Laptop. Now you might've seensome of the other videosgoing around on some other gaming desktopswhich are of dubiousvalue and dubious quality. But this one, this oneactually might not be too bad.So what makes this special is the price. When it first went on sale only, what, like a few weeks ago?It was $1,000, but wepicked this one up for $700and checking the walmart.comwebsite right nowit is available for only 600 bucks.I mean take a look at these specs:the i5 is solid, and while the 1050might not be all that impressive,at $600, this has a lot going for it.If it actually stays $600, that is.So we get that Overpowered,a little bit of a cliche for the brand, but this box actually looks kinda cool,I gotta say, it's not bad.So first impressions are pretty decent,it has brushed metal on the frontand the back panel, eventhough it is plastic, seems very sturdy, especially consideringhow many vents are here.So while this boots up, let's take a lookat what else is inside the box, which I assume, for$600, not gonna be a lot. There's the power adapter, which is here 120w.Now with a 1050 and Core i5 on boardthis is not the mostpowerful of gaming laptopsbut should still be able to play a lotof games at prettyreasonable settings at 1080p.So this OP brand has areally bad rap right now,and at $1,000 this laptop does havesome pretty major issues. At 600 or 700 bucks, though,it's a very different story. So take the processor, for example,it's a Core i5 8300H,which means it's quad core,it's 45w, this is a propergaming CPU, no problem. The GTX 1050, on the other hand, isn't quite as powerful,so, realistically, even though it doeshave that 144Hz display,I'll talk about that in a second,it's not really goingto be capable of playinga lot of games at thatvery high resolution, and especially that very high frame rate, but the thing is, it's still way betterthan pretty much anythingelse you're findingat this price point.Looking round the laptop, we actually havea pretty decent selection of ports. So a pair of USB 3.0, SDcard, a pair of mini displayas well as HDMI, we haveUSB C, as well as ethernet, and one more USB 2.0.A mechanical keyboard on a gaming laptopis usually reserved for computerswhich are much, much more expensive. Now this is not maybethe greatest keyboardI've ever used, it does have a little bitof that tactile feel, but it also isn't quiteas responsive as something like someof those higher end Razer Switchesbut that being said it's totally not badand we have a fairly widerange of RGB options. So, this is the really obnoxious onebut if I switch over to the OP software(laughs) I mean, they'vedefinitely got someinteresting options. Now, I don't personallycare too much as long I havea backlit keyboard I'm fine, but the keyboard situation here is reallyon par with much more expensive laptops, another point for theWalmart OP Gaming Laptop.Of course, you can't build a laptopfor way cheaper without some sacrifices. Now, based on thosedesktops there were someactually pretty majorissues, so I'm really curiousto see what's inside this guy.I will give them this: it'seasy to open up the laptop. All you need to do isundo 16 Phillips' screwsand we should be inside in no time.Oh, warranty seal!Ah ha!So, maybe there's 18 screwsand I need to remove the seal.I will say, having a warranty sealon the bottom of thelaptop, even if you wantto say add RAM or something, that's kind of ridiculous.Yeah, that's not ok.With our warranty voided, let's see what we've gotinside the laptop. That's ok, so,first of all, we've got ourtwo and a half inch hard drive,we've got a fairly small 46Wh battery, there's our Intel wireless card, underneath this littleflap we have a single8GB of RAM and underthe other it is empty,so you could theoreticallyupgrade this pretty easily. We also do have our 128GB NVMe SSD,or at least that's an M2, I doubt it,it's probably still SATA,but what's kind of impressive iswe actually have anentirely unused SSD slot. So, very easily you could upgrade thiswith another SSD, with some more memory, you could even probablyswap out this hard drivewithout too much trouble. So not only do we have a pair of fans, but we have three heat pipes as wellas a heat sink on theleft side, on the top, another one on the top, andanother one on the side. Now I haven't gotten into any gaming yet,but especially withonly a GTX 1050 inside, this looks to be more than adequate. So if we jump into aquick game of Fortnite, there's a few things that jump out to me.First of all, 1080p medium,we are getting 70 to 80 frames per second.Sure, it's not goingto be taking advantageof that full 144Hz refreshrate, but it is a lot betterthan a normal display andeven on the Walmart websitethey show this is the only gaming laptopwith a 144Hz screen for 999,even though now the price is 599.And speaking of thedisplay, it is really nice.So not only is it very vibrant, the colors especially look very accurate,no you don't, no you don't, no you don't,no you don't, no you don't,I want to go get him.I want to go get him.No, I'm gonna get him.- It's notworth it if you fight him.- Argh! Oh, noyou don't, no you don't,no you do not, no you do not.Dude, I got a full...Yes! Yes! I did it, I did it!Hahaha!Hahahahaha! So one of the issues withonly having two gigs of RAMfor that 1050 is that, for example, here in Black Ops we're almost out of RAM,I'm curious to see how wellthis actually performs. So with the resolution turned downto about 900p, we are gettinga pretty playable frame rate. It's actually in the 60 to 70 range, the main issue here isthat because the 1050only does have two gigsof RAM it does limitkind of how high we can actuallycrank the settings here.Watch, it's basicallylimiting the GPU at 66.I would not want it to throttle at 66.I would be ok with this thingliving at 70, 75 all day, that's not enough to worryme, I'd much rather havethe quieter fans, I suppose. So Overwatch is actuallya pretty good gamefor this system. So we're at 1080p high, and right now we're gettingabout 80 to 90 frames per second, definitely well in therange of that 144Hz display.Hamster dude coming in, coming in hot, there you go, hahaha, hamster dude's fun, man.Hamster dude's really fun.OP are almost certainly losing moneyon every single one of these they sell,at $600, and yes, you are takinga little bit of a risk by goingwith a fairly brand newand unknown company. But considering just what you're gettingfor this kind of price,it's hard to go wrong.
