14 BOOKS I WANT TO READ IN 2023 (& some reading goals!)

**Bookish Resolutions: What's Next for Me in 2023**

I'm sitting here with a big smile on my face, surrounded by books that I've been eager to dive into. As we approach the end of Bookmas, I wanted to share with you all the resolutions I have for reading in 2023. It's time to make some changes and tackle those long-stalled to-read lists.

I have been reading a lot of bigger books lately, including audiobooks, which has helped me develop my attention span. This newfound ability has made me realize that I can finally give these longer books the time they deserve. So, what are on my radar for 2023? Well, let's start with The Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas. As you know, this is a popular young adult fantasy series that has been on my list for a while now.

I've finally picked it up, and I'm excited to see how the series concludes. While there might be more books in the future, I won't get too caught up in worrying about that just yet. Instead, I'll focus on enjoying the final installment of the series and seeing where my attention takes me next. Another book that has been lingering on my list for quite some time is Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas. This historical fantasy romance novel has been catching my eye lately, and it's finally time to give it a try.

The story follows a young woman named Hana, who navigates love, sacrifice, ambition, and loyalty in early 20th-century Japan. From the bustling street markets to the halls of prestigious universities, this epic tale takes readers on a journey through time and explores what it means to be alive. While I'm not entirely sure why I've been drawn to this particular book, I'm excited to discover its secrets.

Of course, no Bookmas would be complete without mentioning Erin Morgenstern's The Starless Sea. Although I wasn't a huge fan of The Night Circus, which is another popular book by the same author, I decided to give her a second chance with this new novel. I've heard amazing things from readers who loved The Night Circus, but I'm eager to form my own opinion about this book.

The Starless Sea has been on my list for quite some time now, and it's finally time to dive in. With its enchanting premise of Greek mythology, this book promises to be a heartbreaking tale that will leave me breathless. I might just have to do a reading vlog with this one, as it's become a must-read for many readers.

Another book that has been making the rounds on social media is The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller. As you know, Greek mythology can be incredibly captivating, and this novel promises to be no exception. I've heard wonderful things about Miller's writing style and her ability to weave intricate stories from ancient myths.

Matt's novel has become a bit of a must-read for many readers, and it's now time for me to experience its magic firsthand. With its promise of heartbreak and epic storytelling, this book is certainly piquing my interest.

In addition to these books, I've also added need-to-know why The Stationery Shop by Marjan Kamali to my list. As you may know, this novel has been getting a lot of buzz on social media during Bookmas, with many readers recommending it to others. Its unique premise and poignant storytelling have made it an instant favorite among book lovers.

Next up is Kristen Hannah's latest release, The Grade Alone. Although I've only read one of her books before, The Nightingale, I'm eager to dive into more of her writing style and explore the themes that make her stories so compelling. With its promise of wintry landscapes and poignant storytelling, this book has all the makings of a must-read.

Last but not least, there's Kate Hartfield's The Embroidered Book. As you know, I've only read one of her books before, Absolute Brick, which was quite underwhelming for me. Despite that experience, I'm eager to try another one of her novels and see if I can form a different opinion.

The Embroidered Book seems like an interesting take on the genre, with its focus on sisters and their journey to power. With 1768 as its title, this novel promises to be a sweeping tale of love, loyalty, and ambition. While I'm not entirely sure what to expect from this book, I'm excited to see where it takes me.

Finally, there's Stephen Rowley's The Gunkel. This author has caught my eye with his new release coming out in 2023, which has generated a lot of buzz among readers. While I haven't read any of his previous works, the premise of this novel has piqued my interest.

In conclusion, these books represent some of the exciting projects on my horizon for 2023. As you know, resolving to read more is always challenging, but with the right mindset and motivation, it's possible to tackle even the longest to-read lists. Stay tuned to see how I'll fare in this new chapter of my reading journey!

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhey everyone it's Haley and happy Bookmans day 31 we made it oh my God so today is the final day of bookmas and I am going to be discussing my 2023 New Year's resolutions for reading and my 2023 TBR I feel like this has been the busiest book Miss ever because I decided to go like crazy with the editing way more than I usually would so this has been taking me so much longer than it usually would but I also feel like this is my favorite book Miss yet I have done this seven years now and I had so much fun with it this year I was feeling very like reignited especially after having kind of a hard time the past couple of years it was lovely to just feel so impassioned to talk about books again and to read again actually because of that it was very hard for me to narrow down my 2023 TBR now in the interest of like not repeating myself I do try to stay away from books that I have mentioned in recent bookmas videos like for example some that you guys have recommended to me at work kept on coming up a lot apply those I'm going to skip like you guys know by this point that I'm really wanting to read them but I still had such a hard time narrowing down this list before we actually get into the list I will talk about my resolutions but before we even do that don't forget to click that subscribe button and then click that Bell icon so you will be notified whenever I post we are done with Daily Posts but I am going to still be posting a lot I am hoping to do like three to five videos a week I haven't exactly landed on what it's going to be but the point is my life has calmed down so we are going to be back to multiple videos a week I struggled with that last year and the year before but this year I don't really have that much going on so we're gonna kill it also click the Bell icon though so you will be notified whenever I post so you'll know when those new videos are coming without further Ado let's get into it so I definitely my number one resolution is to continue listening to audiobooks that has made the biggest difference in my reading it's something I've always done but that is something that I have started doing so much more in the past couple of months and it made a massive difference like in November I ended up reading 31 books that is more books than there are days in the month that's wild to me I have never done that before but I was just absolutely devouring everything that I was reading I could not stop however a part of that resolution is that I really want to stop feeling bad or guilty for listening to audiobooks I think that there's like this stigma if you will with listening to audiobooks that it's lazy that it doesn't count that it's not really reading but that's very ableist like a lot of people prefer audiobooks because maybe they're dyslexic or honestly for me I think it's really helpful with my ADHD I will struggle sometimes with actually like sitting down and reading a book for an extended period of time it's something that I love doing but it's something that sometimes I'll like really have a hard time with but audiobooks they've made it so I like get past those barriers and that's such an amazing thing I love audiobooks they open up reading to so many other people and if it's not for you that's fine but like I don't see it as cheating if you wanted to know how I listened to so many audiobooks it's because like I'll do things where I don't need my brain exactly so I'll listen to them when I'm doing work that I don't really need to think if that makes any sense especially like editing when I'm doing my first passive edits I don't actually have the audio on I'm just going by the sound waves so I'll listen to an audiobook then but also I have this app that I really love for coloring this is not sponsored I wish it was but happy color I told you guys about it before it's like this coloring book app that I have just been obsessed with and honestly like listening to an audiobook and coloring on that app is my ideal scenario that being said my second resolution I think I will be able to to easily achieve if I am keeping up with those audio books so I'm hoping to read a hundred books and maybe even more I know that in years past 100 books has been like a bit hard last year I just got to it but last year was also so busy but if I can kind of keep up this momentum maybe I can do more I will see how the year is going and assess from there because I don't want to put too much pressure on myself but at the moment my goal is to read 100 books that I have been getting to books that I have put off for a very very long time and I want releases and the things that are being tight and whatever but I also want to listen to my mood and go for whatever I'm feeling like but kind of also trying to push myself a little bit toward those books that I've had for a very long time just because I've had them for a long time doesn't mean I'm not excited anymore to read them it's just you know the new and shiny things I'm like oh what's this so then I want to read it more than the older books but I found so many gems that I've had on my shelf for a very long time that were very much worth the wait but I shouldn't have waited so long and that's where I guess I'll get into this pile of books I think that makes sense those are my resolutions I know it's kind of vague but I'm kind of just feeling like going into things and being like what is this year going to hold that's really the vibe but as far as a book that I put off for a really long time one that I want to read in 2023 that I put off forever but then I finally read it in iteration of it in 2022 was the handmaid's tale by Margaret Atwood this is one I it's been on so many of these year yearly tbrs but I read the graphic novel this past year and it was one of my favorite books of the year and it was quite high on that list and reading that graphic novel just made me immediately want to pick up the actual novel I think it's time for me to do it I know it's not going to be an easy read necessarily but with how like mind-blown I was by the graphic novel loved the writing and everything I think the actual book is going to kind of fill in the blanks that we're missing and I'm going to love it at least I hope I also am just focusing on books that like I actually own and I kind of just went with the vibe that I was feeling most of these though are books that I've had for a very long time this one really isn't but hardly in the Sky by akemi Don Bowman I have been kind of gravitating toward since reading bones of Rune by Sarah Raleigh and being a little bit let down by that one I've been wanting to read this one because it also deals with an acrobat the other one was historical this one isn't but I think it still seems like something that I would love to read this here next is you had me at Ola by Alexis Daria this for sure is one that I've had for quite a long time I think I've had this romance since it first came out it's about telenovela stars and it's just kind of like a romance onset but offset and all of that I've heard some amazing things about it next is girls of paper and Fire by Natasha young this is actually another one that I have had for such a long time and haven't gotten to yet I don't know what has been keeping me off of this one but it just hasn't made its way into my hands to read however I want to change that this year since it has been years that I've had it I need to read it finally this one is a fantasy and it's also lgbtq plus and it's like this world where these girls go to marry this guy and the main character is like the ninth one or something I kind of forget what it's about but I know I've had it for a long time and something has kept me hanging on to it so I need to find out what crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan is kind of a new to me book but it has been around for a very long time I don't know what took me so long to pick this one up however I would love to know why this book has been so popular that they even made a movie out of it I watched the movie but I don't honestly remember it I think I was like half paying attention when I watched it so this book could still be a surprise for me next is Rule of wolves by Leigh bardugo I have a few sequels on here but needless to say all the sequels that I have I would like to get to I'm not a huge series person so I am someone who puts off series and sequels for a very long time however I love Leigh bardugo I really enjoyed king of scars and I love the character that this book focuses on however I've just been waiting for the right mood waiting for the fancy to strike me and this is one where I'm like oh I shouldn't listen to the audiobook but I think that it's fine I think I should just listen to the audiobook for it I I just need to do it did I even say the title for this book it's rule of wolves I can't remember if I said that that's where my brains at I've been filming too much speaking of sequels we have two bricks here can you guess who they're by can you guess what books these are I still have not read Kingdom of Ash by Sarah J Maas or a court of thorns and bro or sorry a court of silver Flames by Sarah J Maas which is the final book for a court of thorns and Roses I definitely felt like I had to be in the right mood for these and that has not struck me because I don't like big books I really don't have the attention span for them however I since I've been reading some bigger books you know and listening to audiobooks maybe this will be the time maybe I can take advantage of this time that I've been loving just sitting there for like hours on end and listening to an audiobook and finally get to these this one is the final book in The Throne of Glass series it came out forever ago and this one is is it the final one or is there gonna be more I can't keep track but court of thorns and Roses Pachinko by minjin Lee is one that has kind have been catching my eye lately this is not one that I've had for a very long time but it's one that I just felt compelled to include on this list this is a historical novel and it is set in the 1900s the early 1900s and it's supposed to be like an epic following this character who basically it's a story of love sacrifice ambition and loyalty from the bustling Street Markets to the halls of Japan's finest universities to the Pachinko parlors of the criminal underworld it follows a vast period of time and is following just life in general I don't know what it is about this one that has been making me want to pick it up but I'm going with it the starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern I have had for a very long time and been a little bit nervous about because I wasn't a huge fan of the night circus which was the other book by this author however I did pick this one up and I've heard amazing things from lots of people who have loved her before I haven't really heard much from people who didn't like the night circus and read this one there's probably not that many because like if you didn't like the author's first book why would you continue but hey apparently I'm that person but I think it's time that I give this one a chance to see if I should keep it or not the song of the Achilles by Matt this has been so hyped up Greek mythology heard it's heartbreaking and I think I might do a reading Vlog with this one it has been all over Tick Tock need to know why the stationery shop by Marjan Kamali this I have heard amazing things about during bookmas lots of people have recommended it to me so it has just made it like shoot to the top of my TBR I know I said I wasn't going to talk about books that I like talked about during bookmas but I had to include this one the grade Alone by Kristen Hannah I so want to get to this one I just am kind of in a Kristin Hannah mood to be entirely honest so maybe the Winter Garden is the one that I should get to first because it's kind of wintry this is one of her most recent releases that I have picked up recently wow that was a lot of reasons but I just I want more Christian Hannah I've only read the one I only read the Nightingale but I loved it the embroidered book by Kate Hartfield is like I said absolute brick but maybe it's time that I go for this one I don't know I picked this one up this year so not one that I've had for a long time but since it's so big I feel like I should go for it it is 1768 two queens with a powerful secret will enchant the age two sisters are sent to marry strangers far from home soon they will become the most influential woman of the age but their journey to power did not begin with marriage it began with a book interesting it's about sisters they had very different upright like they were both sent in different places fascinating and finally the gunkel by Stephen Rowley I have thought this seemed adorable and really wanted to read it heard amazing things and this author has a new book coming out this coming year that sounds really good too so those are all of the books that I'm hoping to get to in 2023 obviously actually not all of them but those are some that have been catching my eye recently and that is also my resolutions so thank you guys so much for watching all of my bookmas videos I cannot believe we're at the end but I hope you enjoyed them like I said I still am going to be putting out lots of content so you won't miss me too much if there's anything you would like to see from me this past year nope that didn't make sense if there's anything you would like to see from me this coming year please comment down below and let me know and I would love to see if I can kind of squeeze it in somewhere but thank you guys so much for watching and I will see you in another new video soon byehey everyone it's Haley and happy Bookmans day 31 we made it oh my God so today is the final day of bookmas and I am going to be click that Bell icon so you will be notified whenever I post we are done with Daily Posts but I am going to still be posting a lot I am hoping to do like three to five videos a week I haven't exactly landed on what it's going to be but the point is my life has calmed down so we are going to be back to multiple videos a week I struggled with that last year and the year before but this year I don't video and as I was filming it I was like I want to read this I want to read this I want to read this so I think that I should be able to like really smash things out as far as what I plan on reading I plan on continuing with being a bit experimental with that what I mean by that is this year really changed and terms of what I was choosing to read in the past I was just sticking to why a I wasn't really venturing outside of that comfort zone but this year I started to venture outside of that I kind of slowly started a couple years ago with adult romances but now I've been reading like adult historical fiction adult contemporaries a little bit of everything and that has been lovely I plan on definitely continuing that and like Taking Chances on books that I'm for some reason I feel like past few years now something I never used to do I used to always finish every single book that I started but that was so detrimental to my enjoyment of reading obviously if I feel like I'm forcing myself to pick up a book that signals to me no like it's time to just let this one go it's hard believe me it is hard because I'm like the concept sounds so amazing and I want to I want to love it I want to love every book that I pick up but the bottom line is that's not the case and if I feel lethargic with what I'm reading that's not encouraging me to do something that I love that turns it into a chore and that is the last thing that I want which actually that being said regarding my goodread school I just do it as a personal challenge with myself that's why I like I'll change it throughout the year if I'm not doing well I lower it if I'm doing well I'll make it higher it's just a personal thing so I like to keep it something that I can achieve every year it's no pressure like no pressure from anyone else or anything I'm just in competition with myself but anyways yeah dnfs I used to be like well then it won't count as a book read but I just marked them as read on Goodreads I put in the review that it's a dnf I don't like pretend that I read it but it does count toward my yearly number that's just the way I like doing things and then I feel less guilty but it's totally books and I do like plan on continuing not giving books ratings the reason that I don't give a star rating is because I just find it kind of pigeonholes me like not every five star book is the same and I don't want a snap judgment based on that I would rather elaborate on my thoughts a little bit more but I do definitely want to get back to keeping up with sharing those thoughts in like a written format rather than just in videos I kind of lost last year making time for reading it was such a busy year like I have I know I've said that for the past few years but oh my goodness like 2021 to get back to and love to put back into my schedule to feel good about myself and it's something I love so it's something I need to be making time for something that's been happening recently with put off for a really long time one that I want to read in 2023 that I put off forever but then I finally read it in iteration of it in 2022 was the handmaid's tale by Margaret Atwood this is one I it's been on so many of these year yearly tbrs but I read the graphic novel this past year and it was one of my favorite books of the year and it was quite high on that list and reading that graphic novel just made me immediately want to pick up the actual novel I think it's time for me to do it I know it's not going to be an easy read necessarily but with how like mind-blown I was by the graphic novel loved the writing and everything I think the actual book is going to kind of fill in the blanks that we're missing and I'm going to love it at least I hope I also am just focusing on books that like I actually own and I kind of just went with the vibe that I was feeling most of these though are books that I've had for a very long time this one really isn't but hardly in the Sky by akemi Don Bowman I have been kind of gravitating toward since reading bones of Rune by Sarah Raleigh and being a little bit let down by that one I've been wanting to read this one because it also deals with an acrobat the other one was historical this one isn't but I think it still seems like something that I would love to read this here next is you had me at Ola by Alexis Daria this for sure is one that I've had for quite a long time I think I've had this romance since it first came out it's about telenovela stars and it's just kind of like a romance onset but offset and all of that I've heard some amazing things about it next is girls of paper and Fire by Natasha young this is actually another one that I have had for such a long time and haven't gotten to yet I don't know what has been keeping me off of this one but it just hasn't made its way into my hands to read however I want to change that this year since it has been years that I've had it I need to read it finally this one is a fantasy and it's also lgbtq plus and it's like this world where these girls go to marry this guy and the main character is like the ninth one or something I kind of forget what it's about but I know I've had it for a long time and something has kept me hanging on to it so I need to find out what crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan is kind of a new to me book but it has been around for a very long time I don't know what took me so long to pick this one up however I would love to know why this book has been so popular that they even made a movie out of it I watched the movie but I don't honestly remember it I think I was like half paying attention when I watched it so this book could still be a surprise for me next is Rule of wolves by Leigh bardugo I have a few sequels on here but needless to say all the sequels that I have I would like to get to I'm not a huge series person so I am someone who puts off series and sequels for a very long time however I love Leigh bardugo I really enjoyed king of scars and I love the character that this book focuses on however I've just been waiting for the right mood waiting for the fancy to strike me and this is one where I'm like oh I shouldn't listen to the audiobook but I think that it's fine I think I should just listen to the audiobook for it I I just need to do it did I even say the title for this book it's rule of wolves I can't remember if I said that that's where my brains at I've been filming too much speaking of sequels we have two bricks here can you guess who they're by can you guess what books these are I still have not read Kingdom of Ash by Sarah J Maas or a court of thorns and bro or sorry a court of silver Flames by Sarah J Maas which is the final book for a court of thorns and Roses I definitely felt like I had to be in the right mood for these and that has not struck me because I don't like big books I really don't have the attention span for them however I since I've been reading some bigger books you know and listening to audiobooks maybe this will be the time maybe I can take advantage of this time that I've been loving just sitting there for like hours on end and listening to an audiobook and finally get to these this one is the final book in The Throne of Glass series it came out forever ago and this one is is it the final one or is there gonna be more I can't keep track but court of thorns and Roses Pachinko by minjin Lee is one that has kind have been catching my eye lately this is not one that I've had for a very long time but it's one that I just felt compelled to include on this list this is a historical novel and it is set in the 1900s the early 1900s and it's supposed to be like an epic following this character who basically it's a story of love sacrifice ambition and loyalty from the bustling Street Markets to the halls of Japan's finest universities to the Pachinko parlors of the criminal underworld it follows a vast period of time and is following just life in general I don't know what it is about this one that has been making me want to pick it up but I'm going with it the starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern I have had for a very long time and been a little bit nervous about because I wasn't a huge fan of the night circus which was the other book by this author however I did pick this one up and I've heard amazing things from lots of people who have loved her before I haven't really heard much from people who didn't like the night circus and read this one there's probably not that many because like if you didn't like the author's first book why would you continue but hey apparently I'm that person but I think it's time that I give this one a chance to see if I should keep it or not the song of the Achilles by Matt this has been so hyped up Greek mythology heard it's heartbreaking and I think I might do a reading Vlog with this one it has been all over Tick Tock need to know why the stationery shop by Marjan Kamali this I have heard amazing things about during bookmas lots of people have recommended it to me so it has just made it like shoot to the top of my TBR I know I said I wasn't going to talk about books that I like talked about during bookmas but I had to include this one the grade Alone by Kristen Hannah I so want to get to this one I just am kind of in a Kristin Hannah mood to be entirely honest so maybe the Winter Garden is the one that I should get to first because it's kind of wintry this is one of her most recent releases that I have picked up recently wow that was a lot of reasons but I just I want more Christian Hannah I've only read the one I only read the Nightingale but I loved it the embroidered book by Kate Hartfield is like I said absolute brick but maybe it's time that I go for this one I don't know I picked this one up this year so not one that I've had for a long time but since it's so big I feel like I should go for it it is 1768 two queens with a powerful secret will enchant the age two sisters are sent to marry strangers far from home soon they will become the most influential woman of the age but their journey to power did not begin with marriage it began with a book interesting it's about sisters they had very different upright like they were both sent in different places fascinating and finally the gunkel by Stephen Rowley I have thought this seemed adorable and really wanted to read it heard amazing things and this author has a new book coming out this coming year that sounds really good too so those are all of the books that I'm hoping to get to in 2023 obviously actually not all of them but those are some that have been catching my eye recently and that is also my resolutions so thank you guys so much for watching all of my bookmas videos I cannot believe we're at the end but I hope you enjoyed them like I said I still am going to be putting out lots of content so you won't miss me too much if there's anything you would like to see from me this past year nope that didn't make sense if there's anything you would like to see from me this coming year please comment down below and let me know and I would love to see if I can kind of squeeze it in somewhere but thank you guys so much for watching and I will see you in another new video soon bye\n"
