Macbook Air (2010) 1st Impressions - Is it For You

**The MacBook Air: A Game-Changing Portable Computer**

It's a little bit on the heavy side having something this small and portable, but it's really an ideal companion for traveling. For someone like me who does a decent amount of video editing, this laptop is a fantastic secondary computer that can keep up with my needs. Traveling frequently for work requires a device that can edit video and emulate Windows, which the MacBook Air delivers with ease. The portability of this laptop makes it an excellent choice for business travelers or students who need a reliable companion on-the-go.

The MacBook Air's power is not to be underestimated. With a Duo chip, it provides decently powerful performance, and the Nvidia graphics card handles regular graphics needs without a hitch. However, as an everyday powerhouse, there may be storage bottlenecks with the 128 GB model of this laptop. If you can live within its limitations, the MacBook Air is more than capable of handling everyday tasks such as email, web browsing, YouTube videos, and playing casual games like World of Warcraft on low settings.

The 13.3-inch model of the MacBook Air provides a bit more power than the 11.6-inch model, making it suitable for those who need a slightly more powerful device without sacrificing portability. Either configuration is a great option, but I highly recommend configuring them online and getting an extra 4 GB of RAM for $100. This may seem like a no-brainer, but it will significantly improve performance when running multiple programs or doing video editing.

The MacBook Air is designed to be a long-lasting device that will outlast most netbooks, which are often slow and prone to overheating after just a year or so of use. With the 13.3-inch model now priced at $1,100 after upgrading the RAM, it's around $400 more than a standard netbook but offers significantly more features and usability.

**Who is the MacBook Air for?**

The MacBook Air is perfect for business travelers, students, or anyone who demands portability without sacrificing performance. It's an excellent choice for those who need to edit video on-the-go, stream HD content, or work with demanding applications. The 13.3-inch model is a great option for those who want a slightly more powerful device than the 11.6-inch model but still require a portable laptop.

**Comparison to Other Devices**

The MacBook Air is now competing directly with the entry-level MacBook and the standard netbook market. While spec-for-spec, it's very close to the white plastic MacBook, which makes it a compelling alternative for those who want the same performance without the premium price tag. However, the MacBook Air has one significant advantage: portability.

The design and engineering of the MacBook Air are truly impressive. Apple has managed to pack a powerful computer into an incredibly thin and lightweight device that's as easy to carry as a large coffee cup. Whether you're a fan of Apple or not, there's no denying the innovative approach they've taken with this laptop.

**What's Next?**

We can expect to see competing products from major manufacturers like Dell and HP in the near future. With Apple leading the charge on ultra-thin design and engineering, it's likely that other companies will follow suit. The use of flash storage directly on the motherboard is a game-changer, enabling laptops to be even thinner and lighter while maintaining performance.

The impact of the MacBook Air will be felt across the industry, pushing manufacturers to innovate and improve their own designs. As we move forward, it's exciting to think about what other advancements we'll see in portable computing.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enwhat's up everyone John ringer from TechnoBuffalo here and I want to talk about the just reann anced MacBook airs and sort of give you my thoughts and Impressions on it who I think these computers are targeted for and more importantly whether or not they're going to be right for you so stick around so the redesigned MacBook Air much like the model it replac is a very polarizing product some love it some hate it and some maybe sort of between so I want to go ahead and run through the specs first then talk about who these are targeting so they're going to come in actually Four configurations two screen sizes 11.6 and 13.3 let's start with the newest form factor 11.6 in it features a 1.4 GHz cord to Duo chip uh extra $100 is going to get you a 1.6 GHz cord to Duo chip come to 2 gb Ram you can up that to 4 gigs for an extra $100 which is actually relatively reasonably priced consider considering Apple's Ram has been notoriously uh expensive so it's finally nice to see apple bring their prices down to reasonable expectations uh the standard configuration for $9.99 is going to get you 64 GB of flash storage essentially what Apple did was they took a standard solid state drive that in a previous MacBook AR came I believe a 2.5 in uh container took it out of the container slded it right to the motherboard and that's going to give you this new instanton capability which is not instanton from a cold boot but from a deep hibernation and you can upgrade that to 128 GB if you want to sort of jump to the next model which is going to be $1,199 and this whole thing is going to weigh 2.3 lb it's going to give you 5 hours of supposedly actual use battery life which is pretty long for a computer that size now it gives you an extra USB port so BR a total of two which sort of addresses one of the major complaints with the original MacBook Air it's got a screen resolution extremely high actually higher than the outgoing 13-in models that are replaced of 1366 X 768 so really highr screen and they all feature the Nvidia GeForce 320m jumping up to the larger model the 13.3 you're going to get a 1.86 GHz processor uh standard 128 GB of flash memory for $112.99 you can up the ram if you want for $100 uh you can also up the processor for 100 bucks the 2.13 and of course you can go to the 4 gigs of RAM as I just mentioned if you want to sort of do all that together and get 256 and a little bit of faster processor at 2.13 GHz it is going to cost you just about 1,600 bucks uh so it is going to be a little bit on the expensive side so who is the MacBook Air 4 in this era of core chips so core I3 Core i5 core i7 uh the MacBook Air certainly doesn't keep Pace with the faster laptops on the market I think really The Sweet Spot is that 11 .6 in model which is going to be ideal for students and business Travelers uh personally I do a lot of traveling and I need my Mac for video editing and I was carrying around the MacBook with me uh which is certainly a portable computer but it's a little bit on the heavy side having something this small and portable uh is really an ideal companion uh for traveling especially for someone like me who does a decent amount of video editing if you travel a lot for work you need something that can edit video and you can emulate uh windows and you can use you know parallels or do it natively with boot camp you now have a full power computer in an 11.6 in Netbook size package uh weighing very little and with supended battery life so if you're Wan something to take to class with you or something to carry with you uh when you're traveling it's a fantastic secondary computer uh I don't think this is going to serve you well as a primary computer certainly it does have a cord to Duo chip which will make it decently powerful the Nvidia Graphics is going to be uh usable and it's going to sort of take care of your regular Graphics needs uh but as an everyday Powerhouse you're going to sort of run into I think a storage bottleneck as well sort of maxing out 128 gigs on that uh 11in model if you can live within its limitations however uh the MacBook Air may serve you if all you're looking to do is regular email uh do some web browsing maybe check out some YouTube videos and play an occasional light game like World of Warcraft on some low settings the MacBook a actually may be uh a pretty decent uh computer to bring with you and it can power the full 20 7 in apple Cinema display right from that little 11.6 in screen uh the 13.3 model uh is UPS a little bit of power uh certainly either model I definitely recommend configuring them online and getting the 4 gigs of RAM uh for 100 bucks that seems like a no-brainer to really improve performance uh if you ever want to run Windows or virtualize it having the ex Ram is really going to be helpful running multiple programs doing video is really going to help so if you're looking to get a Macbook here in either configuration get it online and get the extra Ram do that before you upgrade the processor whether you want to go 1.4 1.6 or whatever you want to do uh really go for the ram first uh the 13.3 I'm not necessarily sure who that's targeting I think the MacBook Air now is sort of teetering on that Netbook line at entry point of $1,000 11100 after you upgrade the RAM uh it's about $4 to $500 uh more than a standard Netbook but you're already getting much more features than you would get on a standard Netbook much more usability than you get with an Atom Processor so I think it's really going to improve the longevity of the computer where you might have to pick up a new Netbook after a year and a half because it's just slow and isn't working especially if you're trying to do a decent amount of video watching or HD streaming uh the MacBook Air is really going to serve you uh 13.3 in if you're still a business traveler you're student you want something a little bit larger uh it may be not a bad option it's sort of now in a power line with the entrylevel uh MacBook the white plastic one certainly par for par and spec for spec uh it's very close and certainly weighs much much much less a little bit smaller so sort of the short-winded answer here the MacBook a is going to be perfect for you if you are a business traveler or a student or someone who demands portability wherever you go you're going to get a computer that's going to be able to do all of your everyday computer tasks uh including HD video streaming you're going to have to limit the limitations however you're not going to have a optical drive so unless you want to pick up an $80 addition you're going to have to sort of live within that uh limitation than use USB whatever else you want to do to get your content downloading it or otherwise uh however that being said I'm quite excited about the MacBook Air I think it is a complete huge step forward as far as design and engineering and whether or not you love apple or hate Apple there's no doubt it's going to sort of Drive the market forward and we'll see competing products from Dell HP and the like uh that are utilizing some of these new uh engineering techniques like actually taking the flash out of the container putting it right on the motherboard so we're going to see sort of a new wave of ultra thin actually powerful computers so I'm excited about it what about you do you agree disagree are you excited about the MacBook Air not excited about the MacBook Air I really want to hear what you guys have to say I am John rer from techno Buffalo and I'll see you
