**Google I/O 2015: Announcing New Nexus Devices and Innovations**
Good morning, everyone. It’s great to see you all here. Just over a year ago at Google I/O, we announced that Android had reached 1 billion 30-day active devices. Today, we’re excited to share that number has grown to 1.4 billion. That growth is a testament to the innovation and dedication of our ecosystem partners.
And now, I’m super excited to announce not one but two amazing new Nexus phones: the Nexus 5X and the Nexus 6P. Let’s start with the Nexus 6P. This phone features an incredibly vibrant 5.7-inch WQHD AMOLED display, delivering stunning visuals for all your entertainment needs. Available in three colors—frost white, aluminum, and graphite—it’s crafted from aeronautical-grade anodized aluminum, making it both sleek and durable.
The Nexus 6P comes with a brand new USB Type-C port, which brings fast charging capabilities. But that’s not all—the Nexus 6P boasts the best camera we’ve ever put into a Nexus device. Equipped with a 12.3-megapixel Sony imaging sensor, it features enormous 1.55 micron pixels for crisp and detailed photos. We’ve also incorporated an eight-megapixel front-facing camera with HDR+, ensuring your selfies and video calls are as vibrant as possible.
Fingerprint unlocking has never been more convenient. The Nexus 6P comes with Nexus Imprint—an incredibly fast and accurate fingerprint sensor located on the back of the phone, where you naturally hold it. Combined with Android Pay, you can unlock your phone simply by touching the back while holding it, making payments as easy as touching the payment terminal.
The Nexus 6P runs the latest Android 6.0 software, codenamed Marshmallow. Now, let’s talk about the Nexus 5X. This phone offers top-of-the-line performance in a compact and affordable package. It features a beautiful 5.2-inch display and shares many of the same great hardware features found in the Nexus 6P. Available in three colors—carbon black, quartz white, and ice blue—it’s designed to meet your style preferences.
One of the standout features this year is slow-motion video. I’d like to introduce you to the new Android Sensor Hub—a dedicated low-power processor that connects directly to your phone’s sensors and runs Google’s unique sensor algorithms. This smart technology can track activities like running or biking, enhancing your fitness tracking experience.
Let’s dive deeper into Marshmallow. We’ve polished and refined many features throughout the OS. With extended quick access to Google Voice Search and actions, you can simply swipe from the left corner of the screen and say what you want. Additionally, we’ve added an on-device intelligent prediction engine that learns your pattern of app launches over time, making your phone more intuitive and faster.
We’ve reduced the number of preloaded apps to create a cleaner and simpler user experience. Now, with just one tap, you can bring the power of Google Search directly to whatever you’re doing on your phone. Hold the home button for a moment, and you’ll get quick information and actions without leaving your current app.
Another exciting feature is Voice Actions. We’ve extended this functionality to allow app developers to build conversational voice experiences directly into their apps. Both the Nexus 5X and 6P support Always-On Google detection, even when the screen is off. Android has become smarter about power management with the new Doze mode, prioritizing frequently used apps over those you don’t use as often.
Android 6.0 Marshmallow will begin rolling out to existing Nexus devices next week, including the Nexus 5, 6, 7, 9, and Nexus Player. Starting today, the Nexus 5X and 6P will be available for pre-order on the Google Store. The Nexus 5X starts at $379, while the Nexus 6P starts at $499. All Nexus phones come with a 90-day free subscription to Google Play Music.
To safeguard your phone, we’re launching a new program called Nexus Protect. Priced at $69 for the 5X and $89 for the 6P, it offers additional security features. We’re also excited to announce the Google Play Music family plan for just $14.99 per month for up to six people.
Four months ago, we launched Google Photos. Today, I’m thrilled to announce Google Photos shared albums—a new easy way to pool photos and videos. Additionally, Chromecast is coming to photos; this feature will roll out soon on Android and iOS.
We’re also excited to announce two beautiful new Chromecast products. First, the new Chromecast now comes in two fun colors: lemonade and coral, in addition to black. Along with a completely redesigned Chromecast app, we’ve partnered with top content apps to give you a single place to view all your featured content. Any device on your home network can act as a remote control for Chromecast.
The second product is Chromecast Audio—a small device that plugs into an existing home speaker and streams audio through Wi-Fi from your favorite cast-enabled apps. It works with top audio apps, including Spotify. We’re also introducing the ability to mirror audio from your Android device or any Chrome tab. You can even skip songs directly from your Android Wear watch.
Lastly, we’d like to give you a sneak peek at one more device: the Pixel C keyboard. This innovative tablet keyboard attaches securely to the back of the tablet, keeping it out of the way but close by. Slide the tablet off, touch it to the back of the keyboard, and lift—it attaches magnetically. The screen is fully adjustable between 100 and 135 degrees, with a 10.2-inch display.
The Pixel C will be available in time for the holidays on the Google Store, starting at $499 for the tablet and $149 for the keyboard. Thank you for joining us today, and stay tuned for more exciting announcements!
