Setting Up Automatic Backups with Task Scheduler

In this article, we will explore how to set up automatic backups using the Task Scheduler, a built-in utility on Windows systems that allows us to automate tasks.

To begin, we need to go back to the Program Files and navigate to the backup folder. The task requires us to right-click on the Auto Backup .exe file, select Compatibility, and then run it as an administrator. This step is crucial in avoiding error messages that may arise if the program is not run with sufficient permissions.

Next, we need to set up a task in Task Scheduler. To do this, we open the Control Panel, go to Administrative Tools, and then launch Task Scheduler. From there, we create a new basic task by clicking on "Create Basic Task" in the Actions section. We can name our task whatever we like, but for simplicity, let's call it "Auto Backup."

The next step is to set up the trigger for our task. In this case, we want to run our action when the computer starts. By selecting "At startup" as the trigger, we ensure that our backup process runs automatically every time we boot up our system.

Now that we have our trigger set, it's time to define our action. We need to select the program we want to run, which in this case is our Auto Backup .exe file located in the Program Files folder. By browsing to the location and selecting the file, we can add it to our task.

In addition to setting up our action, we also want to make sure that our backup process runs with the highest privileges possible. To achieve this, we select "Run whether user is logged on or not" and then "Run with highest privileges." This ensures that our program has the necessary permissions to access and modify files and folders.

Next, we need to configure some options for our task. One of these options is setting the backup frequency. By default, Task Scheduler sets this to 30 days, but in this case, we want to decrease it to every 5 days. This will ensure that our backups are regularly updated without overwhelming the system with too many large files.

Finally, we need to open up the Properties dialog box for our task and make sure that our action is set to run as an administrator. By selecting "Run with highest privileges" in the properties window, we can confirm that our program will have the necessary permissions to access and modify files and folders.

By following these steps, we can successfully set up automatic backups using Task Scheduler on our Windows system. Once our task is set up, it will run automatically every time we reboot our system, ensuring that our backups are regularly updated and easily accessible.

pronounce it it's been out for a long time now but it's a really good program it's probably one of the best out there to use and but there's been some big changes with Vista and Windows 7 so I'm going to show you how to get this working with Windows 7 so you can continually lose this a great program it really is a lifesaver and people need to be backing up their registry in system files on a regular basis because if there's a big crash from their system by using this program you'll be able to get that back up and running so let's have a little look at the program itself I'm going to install it now it's very simple to install we need to do it's just go through the motions here click Next Next this green stool and put to chill cuts on the desktop and this one NT reg popped up so you can see it there it's called a NT registry optimization tool I don't really use that but pretty installed it just for this purpose anyway but you should be doing optimization to the register you really that's very dodgy let's install this and create an entry startup folder say yes take that to get and go finished ok so click ok here and we want to leave these two ticks in and you can see the day there let click ok go yeah deleting it because it's already been on my system I'm just reinstalled in it really so click OK ok so that's where we are at at the moment and it's now put two icons on my desktop which to do with this program this is the optimization tool which I said I don't really use that but I really use the backup there you can do manual backups but I want it to do it all automatically for me so this is where the problem happens to be with Windows 7 I can make some changes to do it so it actually does it automatically for me so what we need to do is go to our C root directory and windows this is where it will put all the ER d NT this is where it's going to put all their backups ok of our files that we want so let's go back and go back to Program Files and go into Iran and on yeah we need to make some changes what we need to do is right-click on auto backup Exe no properties then compatibility and we need to run this as administrator okay of course if you don't do this you're gonna get error messages and same thing for Iran tour Exe okay run as administrator incomparably otherwise you will get errors okay so that's that done now so I want to set up a task now that's a Shh all tasks so it can actually do it for me when I reboot the system so I need to do is go start control panel it's just a downside set at Ted okay so from there we need to go to system and security Administrative Tools and then go to task scheduler so go in there put these down don't need these anymore okay so from here we want to go actions and we want to go create a basic task we can call this whatever you like here so you run back up and then ooh let me go his keyboards crap keep saying L should change it okay so what we need to do there is go next on there trigger we need to change too when the computer starts and then go next and then start a program that's what we want to do for our action go next and in anyway we need to go to browse okay we need to browse to our auto backup this is here now programs file location okay we need to go to here and click on the auto backup dot exe and that's now put the path in there okay now I want to do an option here as well so I want to actually put this option in this is your option I want to put in there I want to put this option in there okay now I can type this out in front if I want you to but it takes too long so I'm just gonna go like this now what that's gonna do is you can by default it's 30-day so this would be 30 by default you can change it to whenever you like okay so basically I think it deletes the old backups every 30 days but the problem is the backups are so large they're on a scale of 7200 mix depending on how much data you've got on your system now if that's keeping those in there for 30 days and every time you reboot your PC they're gonna be masses of backups in there so what I'd suggest is lowering the days down to about 5 and that way you're always going to have backups in there but it's gonna delete every 5 days ok so I hope that clears that up for you so I will put that in there so you don't have to type it out same as me because it is a bit of a nightmare to go next and another one we want to do is open up the properties dialog box put the tick in there okay when we're finished click finished and this will open up a dialog box the first thing on to do is put run with the highest privileges in there okay put that tick in there and also we want to change the user and group want to put system in here like so click OK and you'll see it change there okay that's changed so the next thing we want to do is go to have a little look ok so I think that's it yep that's it okay so that's all done and basically you can see it all there it's all been served so click OK at this stage and basically once we reboot our system we should see our task we can see it in here at startup it's ready to backup okay these are the ones that I've got running these tasks and as you can see it's already set ready to go so every time I rebooted system it will actually make a backup so hope this has been some use to you when it makes a backup let me just show you this before I go anyway so when it makes a backup it will actually put backups inside your windows and in now e rd NT ok it will be in here you should have two folders in there one called auto backup and one just the normal backup ok so that's what you need to look out for it does work get it set up and let it do it for you without you even worried about it my name is Brian from bright echo UK I hope you enjoy
