Welcome to Cook and Share: Remaking a Classic Filipino Dessert Recipe
Hey everybody, and welcome back to Cook and Share today! In this episode, we're doing a remake of a video we did a long time ago - it's a popular dessert recipe in the Philippines called Terron. It's made by taking a slice of banana rolling it up in a spring roll wrapper and deep-frying it. The outcome is a sweet and tasty dish that's sure to delight your taste buds. So, let's get started!
What I have here are some plantain bananas that I've cut in half. If you can't find plantain bananas, don't worry - you can use any common banana found in your grocery store. These are some spring roll wrappers, which you can find in just about any Asian store. Just make sure they're at room temperature before you use them. Now, let's take one piece of the wrapper and peel it away from the others. I'll lay it on a flat surface, and then I'll take a piece of plantain banana and place it in the sugar.
I just roll it around until it's completely covered with sugar. Then, I'll place it into the center of the wrapper. Next, I'll top it with a piece of sliced jackfruit - which is some ripe jackfruit, by the way. You can find it in just about any Asian store, or you can simply leave it out if you can't find it. Now, what I need to do is take each edge of the wrapper and fold it towards the center. Take the other edge and fold it over the top - roll it tightly until it's just above coming to an end. Then, I'll place a little bit of water on the wrapper and seal it up.
Next, we're going to add some vegetable oil to a preheated pan. If you really want to deep-fry these, you can add a lot - but we're just going to add a little bit so they're half submerged. Put the Terron in and fry them in batches over medium-high heat for about two to three minutes until they're golden brown. That's when you know they're done! Remove them from the pan and set them aside on a plate.
I like my Tehran served up with a couple of extra things - so I'll put a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the plate, followed by some chocolate syrup. And that's it! You're ready to serve and enjoy your delicious Terron. I've tasted these, and they are absolutely delightful. So, what do you think? What toppings would you like to add to your own Tehran?
