The Audi RS5 is a beast of a car, with 444 horsepower that makes it quick enough to get your adrenaline pumping. However, acceleration may not sound like much these days, but when you put it together with a chassis and powerplant like this, it feels incredibly powerful. The burbles and cracks of the exhaust are tasteful and not overbearing, unlike some other cars that can be too loud and annoying.
One of the key features that sets the RS5 apart from its competitors is its all-wheel drive system. Unlike the M3 and C63, which do not have this feature, the RS5 has 4matic, which gives it a huge practicality benefit. This means you can take the car to the snow or drive in inclement weather without worrying about losing traction. The visibility is also excellent, with great views over the front windshield, around the sides, and at the back.
Inside, the RS5 is a comfortable and well-appointed space, with features like lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring, and an active tachometer that lets you know when you're approaching redline. The all-wheel drive system can send up to 70% of the power to the rear wheels, making it feel incredibly planted and confident on the road. The rear differential is also active torque vectoring, which helps to split the power and make the car even more agile.
The RS5 is also surprisingly easy to drive, with a confidence-inspiring nature that makes you want to push it hard. However, the suspension has been relaxed for comfort mode, making it feel like driving an Audi A4 - just heavier steering and less road noise. The only sounds you'll hear are the lovely v6 exhaust notes.
One of the features that sets the RS5 apart from its competitors is its drive select system. With buttons for Comfort, Auto, Dynamic, and Individual modes, you can tailor the car to your driving style. In Comfort mode, the suspension and steering are relaxed, making it a great choice for everyday driving. The Auto mode chooses the right gear and speed for you depending on how you're driving, while Dynamic mode is where the RS5 really comes alive - tight, responsive, and just plain fun.
In Individual mode, you can customize everything to your heart's content. This includes dynamic suspension control, dynamic steering, which tightens up the steering rack at higher speeds and loosens it off at lower speeds, making it easier to navigate tight corners. And with the optional dynamic steering, you get even more agility and responsiveness.
The Audi RS5 is a car that deserves to be driven, not just admired. With its impressive performance, practicality, and confidence-inspiring nature, it's a joy to drive on both twisty roads and straight highways. Whether you're commuting to work or taking a weekend getaway, the RS5 is sure to put a smile on your face.
Finally, let's end with some pure unedited exhaust notes that will give you a sense of what the RS5 is like in action. With its 444 horsepower under the hood and a smooth, linear power delivery, it's music to the ears - a beautiful blend of burbles, cracks, and pops that will leave you wanting more.
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enwhat is going on ladies and gentlemen I hope you are having a fantastic day today we are going to be showing you exactly what it's like to drive the brand-new 2019 OD rs5 Sportback special thanks to Rustin a quest like Audi for making this video possible I've got a link in the description below where you can find out more about this car and visit their website so the all-new rs5 sport back the first time we've ever received the rs5 in 4-door trim in the United States and it is absolutely stunning so let's go over some of the performance figures then we're gonna hop in drive it and show you exactly what it feels like to get behind the wheel of the new rs5 so to release the hood like all cars pull that one thing to note is the hood is actually quite heavy on the rs5 it takes a decent amount of strength to lift it up now because we have the dynamic Plus package that gives us this beautiful carbon-fiber piece on the engine bay now a DS actually done a very good job at making this look like an appealing engine bay despite the fact that it only has a six cylinder so this is powered by a 2.9 liter twin turbocharged six cylinder making 444 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque for those of you who saw my previous video on the last generation of rs5 you'll note that it used to be a big naturally aspirated 4.2 liter v8 sounded great excellent throttle response terrible on fuel economy and it was down by a hundred and twenty-six pound feet of torque compared to this new engine it's also something about 70 pounds heavier than the new engine as well and because Audi likes to place the engine in front of the front axle that meant there was an awful lot of weight in the front adding to more understeer they've mitigated that immensely with the new engine layout so the dynamic Plus package also gives us not only this but a top speed Oh a hundred and seventy four miles an hour which seems like a little bit of a random top speed now typically because this car has the dynamics package you would see red brake callipers but because it has the dynamic Plus package that gives this carbon ceramic brakes in the front interestingly enough there are carbon in the front and they're not carbon fiber in the rear but they are painted gray so you know they are ceramic we've got this beautiful little rs5 insignia here another thing to note in the front of the car is outtie refers to this section right next to the headlight as the Quattro blister I've never heard of blister being used in a positive term but apparently it harks back to the original outie Quadro we've also got something quite similar at the rear of the car now because we have the black optics carbon package we have these beautiful carbon fiber mirrors there's carbon fiber trim in the front as well as the rear deck lid and the lower part of the diffuser as well and because of the dynamics package we have the beautiful RS sports exhaust as well as the RS suspension with dynamic ride control now hopping in you will notice the gorgeous hexagonal e stitched seats the standard seats are 12 way adjustable they're leather and alcantara these are upgraded for 1500 bucks they are nappa leather that feels great to the touch you'll also notice right here is a button for massage that's right the seats come standard with massaging functionality we've got carbon fiber Alcantara everywhere and honestly the fit and finish of all of the materials inside of the rs5 feel fantastic alright we are now inside the rs5 interestingly there's a little slot here to put the key if you so desire in order to start the rs5 up there is a stop start button right there up pops the Audi virtual cockpit a 12-point three inch display that gives you every bit of information you could ever possibly want to know and then more than that and then even more than that but what's really cool on the rs5 to make it feel a little bit more sporty is the default display has some pretty cool features in it on the Left we've got AG meter for going around turns deceleration acceleration in the middle we've got a giant tachometer and then to the right we've got our power and torque gauge and then below that we've got boost pressure so check this out step on the gas see the power going up in percentage boost building you also notice the car sounds fantastic despite having a v6 they did an excellent job of making the rs5 sound good which was a scary thing considering the previous generation was that naturally aspirated v8 that sounded absolutely beautiful some other cool things in the interior navigation has a pretty cool setting so we'll go ahead and click this menu button go to navigation and you can actually enter in directions using drawing so instead of having to scroll one by one a B C you can actually go down here and draw letters so yup there there's a P see if we can draw an A hey nice how about an R it actually works pretty well so you can type that in relatively fast now some more controls here we've got this beautiful leather wrapped steering wheel that feels great in your hands you can control the view of the virtual cockpit by clicking this view button here or scroll through various menu items using these toggles here volume control as well as push-to-talk and hang up phone calls and change the channel of the radio we also have these paddles that feel decent to press although they're a little bit more flimsy than I would like climate control events here but below that is the most important section of the car here we have drive select so we can select different driving modes from comfort where it's the most comfortable to automatic to dynamic to individual notice we have the RS sports exhaust when I put it into dynamic mode the baffles open and all of a sudden the car is louder I'll talk more about the driving characteristics when we're actually out on the road climate control really easy to use got a series of little soft touch pads here it cannot figure out what this button does to save the life of me but we do have heated seats next to it additional storage compartment here as well as a hidden storage compartment right here potentially to put your license and registration and proof of insurance in case you get pulled over because the car is quite fast all right let's take it out on the road let's ship the car into drive pull back one more time to put it into sport mode and we are off howdy claims the zero to 60 time for the rs5 is 3.7 seconds so we're in sport dynamic mode turn traction control off floor the break floor the gas and off we go Wow ah the rs5 if it is a really quick let's talk about the transmission response because of this car does have a conventional automatic my first concern would be doesn't have the responsiveness of a double clutch gearbox so we're in manual now we're in dynamic mode so this should give us the best combination of throttle response chassis engagement as well as shift times a tiny tiny bit of lag on a downshift let's maybe be harder on the brakes a little hesitation on downshift but as far as up shifts are concerned it is about as instant as a double clutch unit is it is interesting to see how double clutch units are phasing out in favor of those ZF 8-speed automatic so the BMW gearbox is a little bit crisper in that regard because we have the dynamics package that gives us the RS sports suspension as well as dynamic ride control the dynamic ride control actually has its suspension diagonally connected in order to mitigate body roll and it works exceptionally well the rs5 corners unbelievably flat through the corner and it doesn't have this tendency to understeer like the previous car did let's try out the brakes those carbon brakes work exceptionally well to slow the 4,100 pound car down now for those of you who are curious how the rs5 Sport pack might compare to the coupe it only weighs 79 pounds more than the coupe which means performance wise essentially negligible in terms of the downsides and what you gain is usable rear seats and you also gain a heck of a lot of storage space in the back I actually am liking this transmission the paddles that could be a little bit bigger and those down shifts could be a little faster but for most people man this will do the trick acceleration is unbelievably quick you know in today's day and age 444 horsepower sadly doesn't even sound like that much but when it comes together in a chassis and powerplant like this it works it is quick enough that is for sure and it sounds good - the burbles and cracks aren't overbearing like some cars you know the f-type and and an m4 with a burble tune takes it one step too far where every time you let off the gas every single time it pops and cracks and almost an annoying fashion but this it it does it a tasteful amount of times you kind of beg to beg to hear it again it's freaking awesome it feels like a more mature grown-up version of a BMW m3 and of course a huge difference between this car and the m3 and the c63 is the fact that we have all-wheel drive neither of those cars do now the next generation of BMW M s as well as the bigger body D classes and S classes do have 4matic but the c63 doesn't so it gives you a huge huge added practicality benefit that you could take this vehicle to the snow have a bunch of fun with it in inclement weather or the rain and not have to worry whatsoever visibility is great over the front windshield around the sides and the back visibility is fantastic as well we've got the sunroof here in case you wanted to open that up although I've put it down just because of glare reasons now we've got some safety technology as well this car has lane keep assist you'll notice there's a little light here in the actual meter housing that is a blind spot monitoring indicator so if somebody comes up in my blind spot my turn signals on the car thinks I'm about to turn into somebody it will flash at me so that I don't do that fun to see the little G meter move especially the power and torque curve got some water here so appreciating that all-wheel drive now the all-wheel drive system is variable can send up to 70% of the power to the rear so we're not stuck at 50/50 we also have an active torque vectoring rear differential that can split the power and help the car around the corners feels unbelievably planted though that exhaust that is awesome and it's an easy car to drive it inspires so much confidence because of its all-wheel drive nature you don't feel like all of a sudden the tail is gonna get happy and you're gonna spin out but at the same time they've done such a good job at mitigating the appearance of understeer it doesn't feel like if you come into the corner too hot you're gonna push obviously eventually it will tend to understeer but it's safe it feels safe and confident let's go through the various driving modes shall we drive select button up here in the center console although I wish it was located and a little bit easier of a position that's kind of hard to reach especially if you're driving spiritedly and all of a sudden you want to switch it into dynamic mode but let's go ahead and put it into comfort because we have that RS suspension it's going to relax the suspension in this case relax the steering and everything the powertrain and make it an easier driving experience honestly it feels no different than your driving something like an Audi a4 a little bit heavier steering but very isolated inside don't hear too much road noise really the only noises you hear and I hope it comes across in the camera is that lovely v6 exhaust then we got automatic mode that chooses for you depending upon how you are driving at the time dynamic mode which I would leave it in almost all the time and then we have individual mode which we should go and customize let's go ahead and pull over here and see what we can do with individual mode all right drive select individual for the engine and transmission we've got dynamic suspension control let's do dynamic dynamic steering dynamic dynamic dynamic dynamic speaking of which we have optional dynamic steering which means that depending upon what speed you're going if you're going at faster speeds the steering rack is tightened for more stability and at lower speed it spins faster so it's easier to get around count with that the rs5 is incredibly fun to drive it's fast it sounds good it's practical and it's confidence-inspiring so I'm going to leave you with some pure unedited exhaust notes so you can end this video in peace let's hit it all right I know I said I wasn't going to talk again but look how cool the active tachometer is when you accelerate towards redline it goes green then yellow then red and that is absolutely awesome and then the entire thing lights up in red when you need to show alright guys I look forward to seeing you next videowhat is going on ladies and gentlemen I hope you are having a fantastic day today we are going to be showing you exactly what it's like to drive the brand-new 2019 OD rs5 Sportback special
