Cubemen 2 - Quickie (Wii U)

**The Disappointing Experience of Cube Men 2**

I recently had the opportunity to play Cube Men 2, a game that promised to deliver an exciting experience for fans of Tower Defense games. However, my time with the game was marred by frustration and disappointment.

One of the major issues I encountered with Cube Men 2 is its reliance on resource management. The game features a unique system where players earn in-game currency, known as "squares," which can be used to build defenses for their base. Unfortunately, this system creates a sense of vulnerability from the start. If you don't set up a proper defense for your game at the beginning, you're essentially lost. The only way to get more squares is by killing minions that come to destroy your base, but if your initial defense doesn't hold out, there's little you can do to regain ground.

This mechanic is frustrating because it requires players to think carefully about how they want to approach their game from the start. If you try to focus on building up your defenses too quickly, you may find yourself overwhelmed by the sheer number of minions that are sent against you. On the other hand, if you don't prioritize defense enough, you're unlikely to be able to recover. This sense of vulnerability and uncertainty is a major part of what makes Cube Men 2 so challenging, but it's also what drives players mad.

Despite my frustration with the game's mechanics, I do think that Cube Men 2 does a good job of delivering on its promise to include Tower Defense elements. The game features all of the classic elements that fans of the genre are used to: waves of enemies, towers to build and upgrade, and a sense of progression as you earn more resources and unlock new buildings. However, I'm not huge fan of the blocky style that Cube Men 2 uses, and I think it's finally starting to die.

In contrast, games like Orcs Must Die are a much better representation of what Tower Defense can be. While they may not include all of the same mechanics as Cube Men 2, they offer a more polished and engaging experience that fans of the genre tend to prefer. On the other hand, Cube Men 2's unique style is certainly an asset for some players.

**The Game's Features**

One feature that Cube Men 2 does well is its ability to create and share maps. The game includes a fully featured level editor that allows players to design their own maps and share them with others. This is definitely a plus, as it provides a new way for fans of the genre to express themselves and connect with each other.

However, I did find that the user interface for the game was very unintuitive at first. The controls and menus were not clearly explained, and it took me some time to figure out how everything worked. This can be frustrating for players who are new to Tower Defense games or who are simply looking for a quick and easy experience.

**Playing with the Wii U Tablet**

Unfortunately, my experience with Cube Men 2 was also marred by the limitations of its control scheme. The game is designed to be played on the Wii U tablet, which means that players must use the touchscreen interface to build and manage their defenses. While this can be a good way to play certain types of games, it's not ideal for Tower Defense titles like Cube Men 2.

In particular, I found that navigating around the menus and controls was difficult and frustrating at times. The game requires players to tap on specific areas of the screen to build buildings or upgrade towers, which can be tricky to do without looking away from the screen. This made it hard for me to keep track of what was going on in the game at all times.

Overall, I would recommend Cube Men 2 to kids or anyone who is passionate about Tower Defense games. However, I would caution that players should be aware of the limitations and challenges of the game before diving in.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enwelcome to my new indie games First Impressions SL overview SL pseudo review series I'm calling a quicky with this video will be a quickie with Cuban 2 for the Wii U now basically I'm just kind of looking you know taking a quick look at the various indie games that I have either found or been sent I do not have a whole lot of time to dedicate to these games nor the format so I want to make it quick and just kind of you know what a consumer what expect to encounter when they first encounter the game obviously I take inspiration from things like you know let's look at and WTF is and things like that but I want to take my own little spin on it I got a press release email or some sort of email regarding Cuban 2 coming out on the Wii U and honestly it being on the Wii U was my primary interest in the game I have not heard of a lot of third party titles on the Wii U to begin with nevertheless an indie game this game is at least being worked on if not fully developed by three sprockets the team that worked on fight the dragon which my partner Chu and I are currently playing through and having a heck of a lot of fun with and cub one and two were just in a Humble Bundle recently well what is Cuban 2 if you can't tell already by the video Cuban 2 is basically an RTS SL toow defenses Minecraft game it obviously takes its graphical inspiration from Minecraft being the blocky blockscape style everything from your characters to the grid that you build on and things like that but it goes a bit deeper of course and provides you with a proper Tower Defense slash kind of rtsc setup and I can appreciate this game but at the same time I'm not sure I'm going to be playing it anymore what do I appreciate about it well I I appreciate the concept I mean it I will say this first uh Cuban 2 is likely you know the younger kid Minecraft kids dream tower defense game especially if you get it on the Wii U or something but you know if you're if you're really into those kinds of games cuz there's been a bunch of you know Xbox arcade games and India games that take the blocky style and just throw silly twists on it and this is one of them and so I think if you're really into those goofy little games you're going to like this and frankly it its main objective of being you know a tower defense game I think it does all right there's a lot of control issues that I had with it that I experienced on the Wii U playing on the Wii U tablet uh but as a tower defense game it seems to does you know do its job I did not particularly enjoy it once I started doing poorly however that's kind of to be expected so you have multiple bases you start out with two um on each side of this grid designed level and you can of course make your own levels and things like that but you know you have these specified levels that are created on this grid and have varying Heights and elevation and things like that and then you have enemies that will come and try to destroy your base and the way to defend your base is with your own minions of sorts there's all different kinds there's ones that turn into walls that will block paths however it will not let you just completely block the path to your base so keep that in mind you have ones that will go plant as a trip mine in a in a path to explode and cause damage to enemies you have ones With Grenades and guns and flamethrowers Ice Wizardry magic you have all sorts of minions at your disposal once you get to a high enough level or play on the right Maps however these minions of course which kind of brings in the RTS elements uh costs squares as they're calling it it's just kind of the in-game currency you get these you you start out with a certain amount of squares and that's all you have to get your initial base of defense and so if you don't set up a proper defense for your game at the start you you've basically lost because the only way to get more squares is to kill you know the minions coming to destroy your base this wouldn't be a problem except in most cases your best option to you know with what limited squares you are ends up either you have one Gunner guy who gets overwhelmed and then you lose or you spend quite a bit of money on the walls and mines and then once your Gunner guy either gets out of range or gets overwhelmed and killed you have no more way of gaining squares and then you lose at least that's what I ran into I obviously didn't put a whole whole whole lot of time into this game as I got pretty frustrated pretty quick but that's to be expected with a game that you find challenging that you're not 100% into I do feel a lot of the required Tower Defense elements are there personally I'm not huge fan you know I'm not one of those overly excited fans of the blocky style I think it's finally starting to die and so I would have appreciated a bit more Unique Style however I will say it's better than 16bit which is what most of or you know 8 bit pixelated emulation Graphics which is what most of the games that I'm being sent consist of it does feature the ability to create and share maps you can it has user generated content you can make your own maps you can design them with a fully featured level editor which once you learn how to use isn't all that bad it took me forever to understand how to use it in fact the entire user interface for the game on you know overall is very unintuitive and very hard to get used to at first but once you get used to it you can start navigating around but I ended up getting a headache from trying to navigate on this little Wii U tablet and yeah I could have looked at the TV and it was up on my monitor however all of the at least from what I could tell everything I needed to control I needed to control with the Wii U tablet and so I had to touch and point and click and so I couldn't really look at the screen because I wouldn't see what I was tapping and I honestly don't know how it would possibly be playable with the controller nor on the PC so frankly I'm interested to I'm going to look up some footage on the PC and see how it plays on there because I just it was difficult enough with a touch interface but the touch interface allowed me to to do what I needed if I figured it out I'm not entirely sure how one would get through all the menus at a decent pace with traditional control methods so if you're looking for you know a new tower defense game and you're interested at all in Cube based Graphics then yeah I would be fine with recommending going with Cube Men 2 uh personally it's not for me personally when I think you know when I'm looking for Tower Defense I'm looking for something more like Orcs Must Die however the multiplayer aspects are apparently a huge appeal for Cuban 2 and so I know that like I said a lot of the kids are probably going to like that kind of game and so if you're one of the younger generation or if you know someone of a younger generation that would be interested in a type of game this would be a game I would definitely recommend for kids especially since it's on the Wii U if your kids are you know kids you know have a Wii U get them this there's actually a decent indicor game on the Wii U as I said this was of course a quickie with Cub Min 2 didn't spend a whole whole lot of time with it but got my fair grounds for whether or not I was going to play it anymore I personally will not be playing it again but I will be playing three sprockets is uh fight the dragon on the PC with my fiance 2u doing some RPG Co-op and I would still recommend C to to kids or anyone interested in just someone who's really passionate about Tower Defense games I suppose hope you enjoyed the video guys as always thank you very very
