Microsoft's Xbox Connect: A New Paradigm Shift in Gaming Interactions

We were joined by John Rettinger, Technobuffalo Editor, and Walter Pritchard, City Software Analyst, to discuss the latest innovation from Microsoft - Xbox Connect. This new device has generated significant buzz, and we're excited to dive into its features and implications.

John Rettinger's Take: A Game-Changer in Interaction

"What is this really going to amaze and put people in awe?" John asked, echoing our desire to experience it firsthand. "When you first look at it and see someone play, it looks a little gimmicky having seen Connect and played with Kinect," he continued. "Actually, it tracks your skeletal movement and works amazingly well." John believes that Xbox Connect is more than just a gaming device; it's a new paradigm shift in how we interact not just with game consoles but also with our televisions and computers.

Walter Pritchard's Take: A Long-Term Positive

As a tech analyst, Walter sees the potential for Xbox Connect to shed Microsoft's reputation for not being able to innovate. "If this product is indeed successful and sells well in the market," he believes, "it can help somewhat change that perception." Walter notes that Xbox Connect gives second life to the Xbox 360 platform, which has done well over the last few years. From an investor perspective, he thinks it keeps the company relevant in a market that will become increasingly important in the future.

John Rettinger's Experience: Blowing Wii Fit Away

When John played with Xbox Connect, he was blown away by its capabilities. "It extends far past just gaming," he explained. "Moving the controller around with your hands is really kind of interesting, but also controls how you interact with the Xbox." John believes that Xbox Connect blows Wii Fit out of the water and goes beyond just a movement-based game.

Walter Pritchard's Numbers Perspective

From a numbers perspective, Walter estimates that Xbox Connect could contribute $8 million to $8 billion in revenue over the course of the year. While this may not seem like a significant impact on Microsoft's overall performance, Walter believes that it can help change the company's reputation for innovation.

John Rettinger's Perception Shift

As someone who often writes about sexy products like iPhones and doesn't typically cover Microsoft, John thinks that Xbox Connect will change people's perception of the company. "You really have to experience it and try it for yourself," he advises. The synergy between the Xbox platform and the Windows operating system also presents a lot of interest for how this will affect the next generation.

Walter Pritchard's Vote of Confidence

As an analyst who has seen the impact of Xbox Connect on Microsoft's reputation, Walter believes that it is worth investing in. "I think they sunk a lot of costs into Xbox," he explains. "Now they're generating profits, and anything incremental like this is definitely worth it." The returns are positive, and Walter thinks that Xbox Connect is a worthwhile investment for Microsoft.

The Future of Gaming with Xbox Connect

As we conclude our discussion, it's clear that Xbox Connect has the potential to revolutionize the gaming industry. With its innovative technology and seamless integration with other Microsoft products, it's no wonder that analysts and editors alike are buzzing about this new device. Whether or not it will be a game-changer for Microsoft remains to be seen, but one thing is certain - we can't wait to see what the future holds for Xbox Connect.

connect be enough to move the needle for microsoft shares and turn around the reputation of mr softy joining us technobuffalo editor john rettinger and walter pritchard city software analyst you have both played the game and i saw steve ballmer play the game with tom freeman it's a long story but it was sort of amazing to watch it so let me ask you john rettinger what is your take is this really going to amaze and put people leave people in awe you know when you first look at it and you see someone play and you see them moving their hands around it looks a little gimmicky having seen connect and played with kinect it actually is as advertised it tracks your skeletal movement and it works amazingly well and i think it's a new paradigm shift for how we interact not just with game consoles but we're eventually going to interact with our televisions and computers all right what's your take walter as a tech analyst do you think it's it's pretty neat yeah i think i mean i've played with it probably not as long as he's played with it i think it's i think it's pretty neat i think it's you know it sort of gives second life to uh to a game platform that the xbox 360 that's done pretty well over the last few years so i think from a from an investor perspective i think it you know keeps the company relevant in a market that you know arguably will be much more important in the future something connected to the tv where they don't have a position today and we're watching it right now john you know you see the guy we're now the woman and she's moving and then the character behind her moves and it really does literally pick up if you stop or you're bored or anything it picks it picks all of that up in your opinion john how does this compare to the we and the wii fit oh completely blows it away and this extends far past just gaming certainly moving the controller around with your hands is really kind of interesting but also controls how you interact with the xbox so you can play your video content by saying xbox play so there's a lot more that it goes beyond just a movement it really is a lot of fun people are going to have to go out there and really try it and it is just an add-on for the existing xbox 360 so anybody who has one will be able to get connect it's not a completely new console all right so walter will this move the needle for microsoft i mean we know we're looking at uh maybe two and a half to three million of these sold certainly that's uh way more than say playstation would get i mean is this going to be the thing that actually juices microsoft shares now i think if you're looking at it from a numbers perspective there's there's really very little impact i mean it's this division could contribute say 8 million 8 billion in revenue over the course of the year here i think though from a longer term perspective i think this is a company who's been pegged with a reputation for not being able to innovate and i think you know if this product is indeed successful and and and and sells well in the market i think i think they can help somewhat shed that reputation so i think it's a sort of a longer term and tangible positive in that respect and uh and john you're the kind of guy who's going to set that reputation people like you out blogging who are always uh blogging about sexy products like iphones and not about microsoft do you think that this will change that absolutely i think it's going to do wonders to change your perception about microsoft when people go out there and actually see it and they see this in their friend's house and they see the news media actually playing it's going to be one of those things that you really have to experience and go out there and try for yourself and there's a lot of synergy between the xbox platform and the windows operating system so they serve a lot of interest for how this is going to affect the next generation with those operating system as well i think microsoft definitely has a winner on their hand all right walter you got the vote of of the guys who are going to make the call on that do you think it's going to end up being worth it for microsoft to spend what we've seen is potentially 500 million dollars in marketing by christmas yeah i think i mean i think they sunk a lot of costs into xbox those are those are years behind them at this point now they're generating profits i think i think anything incremental like this is is definitely worth it and uh you know the returns are at this point positive okay well gentlemen thanks very much we appreciate it thank you somewhere john rettinger steve ballmer is giving you a big pat in the back but you just made that guy's day all rightand now microsoft in need of a miracle this holiday season
