iPhone 14 Pro - My Experience (1 Week Later)

**Full Review of iPhone 14 Pro: A Week-Long Experience**

---

### Introduction

In this detailed review, I share my experiences with the iPhone 14 Pro after using it daily for over a week. This article will cover both the positive aspects and areas where the phone falls short, providing an honest insight into its performance.

---

### The Good Features

#### **1. 48 Megapixel ProRAW Mode**

The standout feature for me is the new 48 megapixel camera mode. Shooting in full 48MP gives unparalleled detail, allowing me to crop images four times without losing quality—something that was previously achievable only with a 12MP photo on the iPhone 13 Pro. The dynamic range has also improved significantly, making this my favorite shooting mode.

However, the raw file sizes are massive. To manage storage, I switched to using Halide to shoot in 48MP JPEG format, which maintains quality while reducing file size.

#### **2. Overall Fluidity**

The iPhone 14 Pro is incredibly smooth compared to the iPhone 13 Pro. While the older model wasn't slow, it had occasional lag when switching apps or typing. The 14 Pro, with its faster LPDDR5 memory (1.5 times speedier than LPDDR4X), offers a flawless experience. Although not as impressive as the Samsung S22 Ultra, it's notably better.

#### **3. RAM Management**

I noticed significant improvements in RAM efficiency. With the 13 Pro, switching between YouTube and the web browser often led to video reloads. The 14 Pro handles this seamlessly, likely due to its upgraded memory. Apps stay open in the background without issues, though it's still not on par with the S22 Ultra.

#### **4. Color and Design**

The space black finish is stunning. Depending on lighting, it shifts from light gray to a deep matte black—a change I haven't seen since the iPhone 10. The frame is the darkest ever on an iPhone, making this my favorite design yet.

#### **5. Improved Speakers**

The speakers are notably better than those on the 13 Pro, with significantly higher volume and clarity. A brief audio sample demonstrates the improvement.

#### **6. Outdoor Brightness**

Brightness has improved for outdoor use in apps like Twitter and Instagram, though not in web browsing. This makes a big difference when using the phone outside.

### The Meh Features

#### **1. Dynamic Island**

While fun, the Dynamic Island is underutilized. Only a few first-party Apple apps use it effectively. I hope third-party apps like food delivery or messaging services will adopt it soon. However, it can be distracting due to its placement and priority of certain apps over others.

#### **2. Always-On Display**

I love the always-on display but find it too bright. Samsung offers more customization options, which Apple lacks. A brightness toggle would be a welcome update.

---

### The Bad Features

#### **1. Battery Life Issues**

Despite claims of an extra hour of battery life, I've experienced worse performance than my 13 Pro at launch. Usage includes podcasts, YouTube videos, and short browsing sessions throughout the day. By 6 PM, battery life is often below 30%, significantly impacting convenience.

#### **2. Camera Disappointments**

While the raw mode is impressive, other camera improvements are minimal. The ultrawide lens hasn't improved, night mode remains inconsistent, and there's excessive processing that detracts from natural shots. Issues like blown-out highlights persist.

#### **3. Storage Management Problems**

Upgrading to 256GB resulted in unexpected system data consumption, leaving little usable storage. This caused recording issues, requiring reboots to fix. Managing apps with iCloud helped but didn't resolve all problems.

---

### Final Thoughts

Despite its flaws, I don't regret upgrading to the iPhone 14 Pro. Features like Dynamic Island and the always-on display add value, though they need refinement. Apple's updates are crucial for addressing battery life, camera processing, and storage management. If these issues are resolved, this could be one of the best iPhones yet.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enI've been using the iPhone 14 pro for more than a week now on a daily basis and I have some good things to say about my experience some math things and some truly bad ones starting off with the good my number one favorite feature about the iPhone 14 pro has definitely been that new 48 megapixel program mode the fact that I was able to shoot in full 48 megapixels gave me so much more detail to work with I was able to crop into my images like four times and get a similar level of detail as to what 12 megapixels could do before on the iPhone 13 Pro I was also really impressed with the level of dynamic range out of this camera so yeah that was definitely my favorite mode now unfortunately the file sizes were just massive for the 48 megapixel raw images so to solve this I'm actually using halides which allows me to shoot in 48 megapixel jpeg format which compared to a 12 megapixel photo doesn't actually take up that much space and at the same time it still preserves a lot of the quality of that 48 megapixel Pro image now the second good thing about my experience with the 14 pro was the overall fluidity so I'm not saying that my 13 Pro was slow but I did have occasional lag when typing or when switching between apps which was not the case with the 14 pro so the 14 pro was super super fluid and honestly the experience has been just Flawless for me then number three RAM management so with my 13 Pro I've had a number of issues where I was watching a video on YouTube then I switched to the web browser and then I switched back onto YouTube only to find YouTube having to reload the entire video that was never the case with my 14 pro which is quite interesting because they both have six gigabytes of RAM the only difference is that the iPhone 14 pro has faster lpdr5 memory compared to lpdr4x so this is about 1.5 times faster than the memory inside the 13 Pro so I'm assuming that this is what actually makes the whole system use the memory better now don't get me wrong it's not quite on the the same level as the s22 ultra which was able to keep apps open in the background for days sometimes even weeks so this was super super impressive but it is still noticeably better than the 13 Pro then the fourth good thing that I have to say about the iPhone 14 pro is the color so I gotta say space black is my favorite color ever on an iPhone depending on how the light hits it uh it could turn from light gray to matte black and if you take a look at the frame this is actually the darkest frame that we've ever had on an iPhone before or at least the darkest frame since the iPhone 10. I think that especially with this wallpaper that I'm using right now of this desert I think it looks I don't know it just looks awesome and uh it's my favorite iPhone color and design yet and number five even though Apple hasn't really said anything about this at the event the speakers are noticeably better on the 14 pro compared to the 13 Pro I found the volumes be considerably louder on the 14 pro and the sound to also be much clearer than on my old 13 Pro just take a listen for yourselves and then the last good thing that I've noticed was the brightness so I've actually noticed this outdoor is quite a lot it gets significantly brighter than my 13 Pro did but it only applies to when you're in apps such as Twitter Instagram or the camera app that's where it makes a huge difference when I was browsing the web because the pages were all white it didn't actually go any brighter than my 13 Pro did but yeah this made it so much easier to see outdoors and so much more enjoyable to use outside okay so those were the good things now I want to talk about the meh things so the things that were definitely improvements from the 13 Pro but things that I've also had some issues with so the first one is sadly the dynamic Island so it's all right you know it's it's fun to use but my main issue with the dynamic island is that aside from phone calls nothing thing really made use of it for me at least I would honestly love to see developers make use of it properly because right now it's just a couple of first party Apple apps and not even all of them use it I would love for my food delivery apps to make use of the dynamic Islands or even my messaging apps it would be really cool to see parts of your most recent chat uh you know your most recent message stuff like that in the dynamic Island as as of right now I'm afraid that it is just and just a gimmick a gimmick that I found also more distracting than the notch when it came to viewing content and that's because it cuts more into your content than the notch did and that's for two reasons the first one is that it goes lower than the Notch and the second is that it also has space above it where the display surrounds it so for me I found it to be way more distracting than the Notch was another complaint that I have with the dynamic island is that when you have two apps that utilize it in this case the phone and the timer the phone for example will always take priorities so there's no way to actually move the timer into the center for that to take full advantage of the dynamic Island so I do hope that it will improve and more apps will actually start making use of it including Apple's own apps but you need to be aware of the fact that the dynamic Island will be gone soon at least the hardware ID of it Apple will move the front-facing camera and the face ID sensors under the display in about three years or so so do keep that in mind we won't know until that happens if Apple will decide to keep Dynamic Island as a software only feature or if they decide to fully fully remove it I just hope that this is not going to be another touch bar incident where Apple introduces this new feature that sounds really really cool but then it is fully up to the developers to make use of it and with a touch bar they never did and that was literally the main reason why the touch bar died and my second Mac experience that I've had um was with the always on display so don't get me wrong I love having it this was one of the features that I've been request testing for years now but I still think that it's far too bright many people have been complaining about this I do hope that Apple introduces a toggle to just adjust the brightness of it a bit which is even more noticeable thanks to the fact that a wallpaper is always visible on the lock screen also you literally have zero customization uh on the always on display on the iPhone like there's only one button for toggling it on and off that's it just take a look at the amount of customization that Samsung for example offers you with their always on display you can change the clock style you have a number of different options here you can even have your own calendar or even notes basically anything you want you can change the color of it and if you really want to you can even have a some fun animated icons as you're always on this play so now let's talk about the bad stuff so my number one complaint with this phone is unfortunately the battery life so when Apple claimed that it offers one extra hour of battery compared to a 13 Pro I was really really hopeful and impressed because this phone lasted me for ever especially at launch unfortunately that was not the case now I found out that a battery is actually worse than on my 13 pro at launch so this is basically how much I use my phone during the day so in the morning I use it for about 40 minutes to one hour to listen to podcasts or watch YouTube videos while I'm getting ready for work then at the office I only use it when I'm recording a video to control my notes on the teleprompter when I record so that's it and then during my lunch break I use it for about 40 minutes to watch some more YouTube stuff and browse the news and basically just that so with this exact usage when I get home which is around 6 PM or so I have 30 or less battery life remaining now my 13 Pro in its last few days got to about 10 that was worse but then at launch my 13 Pro used to get 60 by 6 PM or even more so I don't know why this is happening is it an iOS 16 issue is it because of that always on display is it because of the haptic keyboard which I haven't enabled in iOS 16 I don't know but what I do know is that the battery life is just pretty bad especially considering that this phone is at launch now my second bad experience uh was in terms of the camera more specifically I'm very disappointed that the overall camera improvements are very minor or non-existent compared to the 13 Pro I mean sure we get the raw which is incredible that I mentioned before and the zoom has actually been improved at 2x uh 5x and 10x as well but other than that like I said in every other case the camera is identical to the 13 Pro or in some cases it is even worse the ultrawide was no better despite the massive improvements that Apple planed night mode was not any better once again despite the mass improvements that Apple claimed and the prophecies in Kiara was not any better either I was expecting some gigantic upgrades here but I was really disappointed in the end especially since a lot of the issues that we had with a 13 Pro such as the blown out highlights still persist with the 14 pro and then on top of that we still have way too much processing and sharpening happening similar to what Samsung used to do a few years ago yeah you can definitely check out our camera comparisons right here for you know everything you need to know but so far the camera just isn't the upgrade that Apple claimed it to be and the third bad experience that I've had with a 14 pro was when it came to storage so I was using a 256 gigabyte 13 Pro and then I upgraded co256 gig 14 pro and I was using about 200 gigabytes ish of storage on my 13 Pro but after I transferred all of my data my 14 pro was showing as a fool basically so all of this was full of system data I had about 250 gigs of use storage which didn't really make any sense most of it was system data for some reason and because of this I couldn't even record videos at some point so I had to reboot my phone to fix this and this happens a number of times and even now as you can probably tell a lot of this use space is system data I even deleted a number of apps and put the ones that I'm not really using that often into iCloud so just to save storage space so having said all of this do I regret upgrading to the 14 pro absolutely not I think prorog is awesome Dynamic island is fun to use and the always-on display is again good to have uh and of course the collar just looks amazing like I said I just hope that Apple releases some software updates to fix some of the issues that uh all of us have been having such as the battery life and the always on display brightness and also the camera if Apple could improve the image processing then I think that this camera would be one of the best if not the best on the market and if you've been using an iPhone 14 or 14 pro as well let us know in the comments what was your experience check out our videos on the airpods Pro 2 and the Apple watch Ultra that I'm wearing and using right now I'm Daniel this means enough Tech and I'll see you guys in the next one it's enough Tech signing out foreignI've been using the iPhone 14 pro for more than a week now
