The Art of Making Jerky Burgers with BBQPitBoys
Welcome to BBQPitBoys.com, where today we're grilling up some jerky burgers in pit and it's real easy to do. I mean, it's real easy to do, and you gotta check this out. To make these jerky burgers, we're gonna need a secret stash of jerky grind. And if you don't know what jerky grind is, we're gonna show you. It's your favorite jerky, ground up in a grinder.
We've got ours here, ground up in a grinder, and it's good. You should always keep a stash with you. This is jerky grind, and it's made by grinding up fresh jerky using any kind of grinder. There's a ton of flavors out there, so whatever one you choose, you're gonna change the profile of that burger. But look how easy it works. It doesn't bind up in your grinder, and you get a grind just like that. It not only works good on burgers but also works good on sandwiches, whatever you got going on.
Add a little bit of that flavor to your mix, and we've got about two pounds of ground beef with 80, 85% lean to fat. We're taking about half a cup of our jerky grind and kneading it right in. Oh man, I'm telling you. Here, we're gonna add some moisture to this mix. We're using some garlic, some minced garlic. About maybe a teaspoon more or less is up to you, but the flavor is a good addition to this burger. Now, you want to mix it up real good.
We're gonna add a splash of beer to it. Adding a little more moisture because the jerky is a little bit dry, and we wanna keep this as moist as we can. We're gonna make four burgers out of this - four 1/2 pound burgers. That's about the perfect size. You decide how big you want your burgers; quarter-pounders will work just fine. Now, let me take some time showing you how to do this, especially if you're a newbie.
We're getting all that grind up now, and of course, we could have shortened this video real quick but nah, man, we like doing it. Just hang out and if you don't like it, use that fast-forward button. We're gonna place these burgers opposite the hot coals, it's called indirect grilling. You could go direct over the flames, which in then is a lot more difficult to manage the burgers.
So, we're gonna go indirect, kick back, have a couple of beers. About halfway through, we're gonna flip 'em. We've been running a temperature of about 350 Fahrenheit. Flip them, let 'em cook on the other side for another couple minutes. Oh man, and in the miracle of time, couple minutes has gone by.
We're gonna put some cheese and here we've got some Pepper Jack cheese. Use your favorite cheese of course, but the Pepper Jack goes real well on these jerky burgers. Put a couple slices on and let 'em melt. Takes only a couple minutes. Meanwhile, we're gonna make up some fresh buns. And these jerky burgers are done. Take 'em off the grill and set 'em.
Oh baby, are you kidding me? Now, that grind jerk brings a ton of flavor, a smoky flavor to these burgers and you definitely got to check it out. We're gonna dress 'em up with some fresh tomatoes we just got from the garden, right? Oh, these are pretty good. And we'll put on some onion. We've got some pickled jalapeños fresh from the garden last summer.
And of course, we're gonnasprinkle on a little bit of that secret stash on the jerky grind. Oh man, and this jerky grind like I said will work on any kind of sandwich you got. And as always, we do apologize for eating in front of you like this but you're gonna have to make your own right? Because this is our pitmaster privilege (laughs).
