**A Thrilling Experience: Installing Peugeot's Suspension**

It took around 45 minutes to do the same job on a Swift, but for Martin, it was a different story altogether. He had recently acquired a Peugeot and wanted to install its suspension system. As he began working on his car, he realized that this project would be more challenging than he initially thought. "It's like they're speaking a different language," he said, trying to make sense of the complex instructions.

The first hurdle Martin faced was removing the factory top hats off the original shocks. This process required an angle grinder to cut through rusted and broken parts. "You can only remove that stuff with an angle grinder," he explained. The process was tedious, but necessary, as it would have been impossible to get rid of the damaged components without one. Martin's experience is a testament to the importance of having the right tools for the job.

As Martin continued working on his Peugeot's suspension system, he realized that it needed some serious TLC. "These lower control arms are known to be worn out and need to be replaced anyway," he said. The problem was exacerbated by the fact that the bushes were also seized, making it even more difficult to remove them. However, Martin was determined to get the job done and began searching for replacement parts.

After hours of searching, Martin finally found some reasonably inexpensive lower control arms and tie rods. He was relieved that he could find these parts without breaking the bank, as he knew that this would be a crucial step in getting his car back on the road. "It's not so bad," he said, "but it does cost more money than I'd like to admit." Despite the challenges, Martin was confident that he could get the job done with his trusty toolbox and some elbow grease.

As Martin worked tirelessly to install his suspension system, he couldn't help but think about the experience he had with his Swift. He remembered how quickly and easily he had installed its suspension system just a few days ago. "It's like they're speaking a different language," he said, chuckling at the memory. Despite the challenges, Martin was determined to get his Peugeot's suspension system up and running smoothly.

The final step in the process was bolting the new coil levers into place. This was the easiest part of the job, as it required minimal effort and expertise. However, it was a crucial step in getting the car ready for its next adventure. Martin was excited to hit the track again and put his new suspension system to the test.

As he looked back on his experience, Martin realized that installing a car's suspension system was not just about throwing parts together. It required patience, determination, and a willingness to learn. "It's like you're learning a new language," he said, reflecting on the experience. Despite the challenges, Martin was confident in his ability to get the job done, and he couldn't wait to take his car out for a spin.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enit's cash versus Trash where I spend up the dollar money is trying to make my Suzuki Swift sport go as fast as I can and I spend time in the bin hunting around for parts to make my Peugeot go quicker while spending as little money as possible coilovers so it turns out I'm not going to be able to find them in the bin but you are going to be able to find them in a place where there's a lot of other garbage the internet I could go and just chop my Springs and that would be like the trash way of doing it but it's illegal it's unsafe and also the back doesn't have a traditional spring so as per the rules of cash versus Trash if you can't make it out of trash or it's not economical to do so he has to buy the cheapest version of that thing that there is Martin drum roll please show us your coilovers now Peugeot 206s might be very common in Europe particularly in France but they are not as common in Australia and as such there is not an extensive aftermarket of parts available in Australia but thanks to the magic of overseas shipping and airplanes these arrived in only a matter of days I went on the internet and searched for Peugeot 206 adjustable coilovers sought by cheapest buy it now and a few days later these rocked up they look suspiciously similar to the Volkswagen Golf suspension we got when we were over in Europe you can adjust the spring perch but that's about it I don't know what the spring rate is I don't know anything about them except that they should fit now the back uses a torsion bar so you only get a set of shock absorbers for the rear end of the car so for about five or six hundred dollars landed I was able to get adjustable coil over suspension now the rear of the car is a bit different it's got what's known as a torsion rear spring so it doesn't actually have a spring it's got a giant Rod so that changes things a little bit from what I've experienced but the front is a lot like our Golf GTI that we did in Germany continuing my theme of trying to use as many JDM Parts as possible on my Suzuki Swift sport I got myself a set of 10 coilovers from Japan these are an affordable set of JDM coilovers that pain Flex Zed while there's much more expensive options these coilovers came into Australia for a little over one thousand seven hundred dollars I could have spent more but I've spent way too much money ordering parts for my car already from Japan as you'll see in upcoming episodes these are a simple unit but you get height adjustment and 16 level linear damping Force adjustment and for full clarity this is not sponsored I bought and paid full price for these and I have no idea if they're actually going to be any good or if I'll swap them out later for a more track oriented setup Tain is a suspension brand that people have been using for years in their modified JDM Cars and while the sky's the limit in terms of budget I didn't want to spend as much as my whole car on a set of coilovers so these ones here are a budget alternative they're kind of a lower tier in the tane range but now what we really need to find out is is it worth buying these or what Marty got so let's bring in the expert when it comes to suspension setup and all the fandangle read that you need to make your car fast we've brought in an expert this is Andre from DNA Autosport if you want your car to go fast and be set up properly on the racetrack he's the man for it can you tell me a little bit about what you do man yeah no drama so DNA is a workshop based in Wetherill Park and essentially we specialize in suspension design but also chassis tuning and Chassis development uh do a fair bit of stuff in in the circuit circles as well as as that in Drag Racing but we have a bit of everything come through the doors drift rally Etc so in your long career of working at Bilstein before and now having your own shop have you worked on Suzuki Swift what you must it's an iconic race car from Japan I can't argue with you that here's an icon from Japan we have worked on I want to say two yeah okay in the time that we've been uh been around but uh yeah definitely a Nikon what about the Peugeot the French icon how many of these have you worked on zero agree what a shame why is that is it to do with the torsion bar suspension is that is that is that it's called a torsion bar it's got a torsion bar suspension in the rear yeah and it's also just not as common here right like that's true and I mean look the torsion bar suspension is usually something that I would say other than the enthusiasts the real enthusiasts people try to steer away from so that's probably the it's amazing you can't get them in Australia like if you live in France or Europe you can buy them off the shelf I want a stiffer torsion bar and you just jam it in where you go so anyway we might get to that now so the suspension I've got is called Blue Line your window for work okay it's all jobs we've actually experienced this before why did we install the jams because our Mark III golf street cred from back in the day the Mark III golf that we took to the Honda meet we put jobs in it yeah they cost 300 bucks yeah back then or 300 and these were 400 euros inflation these are 400 euros so now cash first trash is not trash it's fine it is to our rules the cheapest stuff we could get because our other option was chopping Springs and being there we've got torsion bar in the rear as well it's like you can't chop a torsion but there are no springs in there and also we can't make coilovers for less than this so if we can't find trash you get on the internet you search for cheapest you buy now here it is what are you looking at give us your professional team what are we looking at here okay so obviously it is a coilover as uh you know to State the obvious um from the first thing that we want to look at really is the construction of the damper so lifting this up you can see that there is a pressed on cap here and and peering kind of just under that it does look like it's a completely sealed unit which leads me to believe that it is more than likely a twin tube damper okay or a damper in which the oil and the gas internally is allowed how to mix or made to mix right um very very entry level you know very uh let's call it barbaric as far as the current Technologies are concerned correct extremely cheap to produce um is this what's in fact like your average Factory car a lot of factory cars will follow this sort of uh except this is sort of recipe yeah ride height of course is adjustable but just peering down the the center of the shaft there it doesn't look like the rate or the damper itself the valving is adjustable all right well let's come over here to a uh a brand that is very well known own which is teens also pronounced tane depending on which website that you look at rhyming with rain now when it comes to this there's a bunch of different tane coilovers this is an affordable version so these were about they were under two thousand dollars obviously you can get ones that are way more expensive as well what am I getting for my 1800 bucks that he's not getting with his 500 bucks okay so again the first thing that we want to look at is the construction of the damper so again it's got a pressed on cap peering down the center there it does look like it is a a shut Unit A welded shut unit and you can kind of guess by the little Contour here on top and looking at the adjustment under here these do seem like they have one dial so it is a one-way adjustable so compression and extension rebound will be adjusted together so they stiffen and soften together and that's no way adjustable no correct yeah there doesn't seem to be any adjustment there if you've got base side adjustment on the front yes of course and I don't do I the second the second side of that is this can be adjusted at the base which allows you to manipulate your you know compression to rebound travel we could do a comparison between a fifteen thousand dollar set and a 500 set but it's also unrealistic they would ever be compared in the same kind of build right correct yeah exactly I mean looking at this at face value I think the gains that you'll get from this set of dampers compared to that you would get the same gain again if you went to let's say the next level up yeah for example in terms of the construction of the damper if you went to a monotube inverted strut in comparison to you know just a twin tube here I think you would find that same gain again if these are kind of similar and the setup from you is similar and the tires are similar then what we really get to see our driving is very similar is we really get to see all of the other mods that are coming soon most of them made out of stuff from the bin so that would actually be really awesome so um it'd be great if we could come and see you for sure yeah no ready when you guys are now I get the joy of um installing this into a torsion beam suspension Peugeot we're going to start by installing the coilovers on the Swift because being Japanese it should be really straightforward um supposed to happen so much stuck around us we became numb to the Epic it was like oh five got my license to drive picked you up in my pops car went for a ride couldn't no one tell us nothing that night was ours all the stars aligned and you were so damn fine yeah it was young love young hearts were so cute We Trust love is so hard to end on a few years past made the move out west it became harder to maintain it put us to the test I hope you know I did my best every birthday in Christmas scraping up every penny eating dinner for breakfast restless but you left me so breathless every time you smiled and looked into my eyes I used all the corny lies I wrote for you a dozen times my pen dancing on this paper and you'll run my mind please it's only taken around an hour and the Swift is now officially lowered with coilovers now it's time to move on to the Peugeot I gave you I'm doing good now but still won't hesitate to save you if I call would you pick up you used to say love please keep your chin up everybody been asking what happened it's the past now I'm quick to change the subject and hide it behind the left now small town girl with big dreams and you chase them they said everything they could it didn't face it I know each other again in due time look back and laugh over a bottle of cheap wine we've officially turned the page to another chapter working on the Suzuki Swift was actually an absolute pleasure everything was easy everything worked it was a joy I'm two bolts into this Peugeot and it's terrible yeah and there's a little bit of familiarity playing into this obviously if you've been looking at Peugeot your whole life you'd be like oh it makes total sense um but yeah not even the folder of Peugeot this is all like rusted and munted and won't undo yeah um and everything's really oily and old so this here I just can't get it undone so it's a 16 mil at the top and then a Torx bit it talks a bit talks a bit talks a bit Allen key yeah at the top yeah so again no fault of Peugeot but this stuff here is just so rusted that I've managed to loosen it off but now it's just got to a point even with penetrant on it that the stuff doesn't fit it's rounding off it just doesn't work so I think Martin is it is it time what have you got there exactly oh it's a little Ruby um angle grinder thing so I'm in for doing small like good for getting little small jobs like that oh you're literally just going to chop that I'm going to chop it because a big angle right is a bit tough to get in there I don't want to hit other stuff yeah so it's just a little bit more precise you can get like little tile good for doing grout and stuff like that as well but it comes with a um like a what do they call it an abrasive disc just for cutting metal because I can replace it I need to replace them anyway the boots on these are wrecked and water has got in there and actually wrecked them so they need to be replaced regardless I think you can get adjustable ones but I'm going to save that for suspension set up later I just want to go Factory and just change this for now okay and maybe look at some adjustable ones later to it to tweak the way the sway bar works okay uh but for now there's got to be removed and we'll have to drill them out cut that off but the strut end is going to go in the bin anyway so that doesn't matter you can just go with it look at the sump plug I mean not only is there oil over everything look at the conditioner it looks like it's had some multi grips on it to open it so on the Suzuki Swift We had one nut that was up at the top and two pinch bolts um what have we got to do here Martin to do the same thing on a Peugeot basically pull the whole Hub out so annoying because even on our golf we didn't have to do that but on this we have to go drive shaft out which is annoying lower thing out which is annoying because you're risk damaging that just to get it out of the way because this control arm doesn't have enough compliance to go down far enough to get the shock up and out of the way so you've got to pull the entire Hub in it all that off and then the shock will go pop out the top right and then it's basically you've got a little something into the back of this and Bash it with a hammer yours is an hour too this first time is a day yeah that's a huge difference and it comes into it again trash you are not necessarily paying as much but what are you paying in time yeah and it's not that all peugeots are trash it's just that everything is hard to work on everything's Rusty everything's covered in oil everything's disgusting just a different way thinking about it because Peugeot might be like but why would you ever need to like what are you worried about changing shocks or our technicians get paid to do it anyway yeah or because Peugeot has such a race pedigree they're like if you want to change that it'll go down to a Peugeot Race Shop whereas with a swift you're just doing it yourself because that's the driveway way so we've got to pull this apart and all the tools are a bit weird too like everything's 16s and 18s and sizes are a bit more unusual but anyway we'll pull that apart and keep going I can fully appreciate that right now there are 11 people out there with peugeot's and magnificent beards yelling at the screen about how easy this is but I can honestly say this is way more complicated than the Swift and just about any other car I've done this job on the lower control arm seeps to catch on the Hub which damages the ball joint which means a whole new control arm may be required after some Angry Words and some brute force it finally popped and at that point I worked out the control arms were cooked anyway so I had to order new ones with the drive shafts out some more Angry Words some more WD-40 penetrant and a lobotomy I got it removed and out onto the floor oh it's been four days since we started trying to install some coilovers on this Peugeot I just want to remind you all it took around 45 minutes to do the same job on a Swift and it would have been even quicker we didn't have to change the top hats but it's a different love language man is it yeah speaks a different language that way it's a bit just half the stuff that needed to be removed could only be removed with an angle grinder yes so rusted broken now and then take your parts to replace it then to get them out and to get the shocks out you basically have to trash your lower control arms now these are known to worn out and need to be replaced anyway so look it's not so bad but it does cost more money which sucks so they're the cheapest lower control arms we could get um you couldn't get the bushes to press new bushes in so that they're luckily they're reasonably inexpensive but yeah also new tie rods because they broke so my trash journey is not as good because um I've had to buy boring replacement parts not mods I like Martin how you said they broke because when something breaks it's normally kind of an involuntary action we cut them off because they win an angle grind up because they were rusted they're seized so yeah I mean luckily these bits are cheap so hey we're all right but uh yeah got to replace them so that's boring gonna put the new arms in and then the new coil levers can be bolted into place for those of you wondering because I know having a pubro on the show is new Martin how are you enjoying your pose bro experience I'm enjoying trying to learn its love language means different things and just because you've had one before doesn't mean when you get a new one it uses the same language as the last one that's right nor is it better nor is it any faster nor does it get the job get the job done better but you know what we moved through this experience we learn we install our control arms we get those colors in for our adjustability and we get on with actually driving the thing which I am Keen for France for a thrash we love you France oh yeah we're coming to see you at some point sorry about the submarine thing wasn't us now that me and The Purge are Bros again it can get a new set of control arms some new drop links and I can piece them back together with its new coilovers first I need to remove the factory top hats off the original shocks and install them onto the new coilovers which went in without too much fuss but still way more challenging than a Swift it has been a battle but I'm confident with my mad cheap and cheerful adjustable suspension I'll be able to chop that Swift let's go foreign overs have been installed we're really not going to know how effective they are how good or how bad they are until the cars have been properly set up and then we hit the track again not exactly right and both our suspension setups are entry level in terms of you've got a little bit more adjustment with this one than you do with mine but you can have some control over your right hand it's also worth mentioning that this suspension is brand new so it's going to be at least as good as what we came with from the factory instead of in my case a leaky old rubbish now of course you can spend like we've said you can spend as much money as you can imagine on coilovers but I think both of the systems that we've got are relatively realistic to giving you some extra utility that someone who would own either of these cars would possibly want to buy it but Martin I got some we're going to get a proper setup done we're going to hit the track but what is next what is next is some proper dumpster diving I have legitimately been in bins and recycling bins getting parts of the next round of mods for my car and I have just been um I've just been diving into our shared bank account I'm just like confident as much of it as I can into Yen and just buying parts I do have a modification coming up um that has nothing to do with the engine that did cost around about the same amount as the car for one thing uh and meanwhile he's been in the bin cash first trash by the way do you have a yellow car we have yellow Mighty Car Mods chop shirts like this if you've got a yellow car this is a mandatory buy you have to buy one it helps the show and if you don't have a yellow car I think they're just kind of pretty snazzy anyway what color is it banana colored is if you even needed to ask it's banana yellow so there it is another episode of cash first Trash proudly brought to you by Mighty Car Mods see you next time we'll drag Marty out of the bin and keep going on some budget and some expensive mods all rightit's cash versus Trash where I spend up the dollar money is trying to make my Suzuki Swift sport go as fast as I can and I spend time in the bin hunting around for parts to make my Peugeot go quicker while spending as little joy I'm two bolts into this Peugeot and it's terrible yeah and there's a little bit of familiarity playing into this obviously if you've been looking at Peugeot your whole life you'd be like oh it makes total sense um but yeah not even the folder of Peugeot this is all like rusted and munted and won't undo yeah um and everything's really oily and old so this here I just can't get it undone so it's a 16 mil at the top and then a Torx bit it talks a bit talks a bit talks a bit Allen key yeah at the top yeah so again no fault of Peugeot but this stuff here is just so rusted that I've managed to loosen it off but now it's just got to a point even with penetrant on it that the stuff doesn't fit it's rounding off it just doesn't work so I think Martin is it is it time what have you got there exactly oh it's a little Ruby um angle grinder thing so I'm in for doing small like good for getting little small jobs like that oh you're literally just going to chop that I'm going to chop it because a big angle right is a bit tough to get in there I don't want to hit other stuff yeah so it's just a little bit more precise you can get like little tile good for doing grout and stuff like that as well but it comes with a um like a what do they call it an abrasive disc just for cutting metal because I can replace it I need to replace them anyway the boots on these are wrecked and water has got in there and actually wrecked them so they need to be replaced regardless I think you can get adjustable ones but I'm going to save that for suspension set up later I just want to go Factory and just change this for now okay and maybe look at some adjustable ones later to it to tweak the way the sway bar works okay uh but for now there's got to be removed and we'll have to drill them out cut that off but the strut end is going to go in the bin anyway so that doesn't matter you can just go with it look at the sump plug I mean not only is there oil over everything look at the conditioner it looks like it's had some multi grips on it to open it so on the Suzuki Swift We had one nut that was up at the top and two pinch bolts um what have we got to do here Martin to do the same thing on a Peugeot basically pull the whole Hub out so annoying because even on our golf we didn't have to do that but on this we have to go drive shaft out which is annoying lower thing out which is annoying because you're risk damaging that just to get it out of the way because this control arm doesn't have enough compliance to go down far enough to get the shock up and out of the way so you've got to pull the entire Hub in it all that off and then the shock will go pop out the top right and then it's basically you've got a little something into the back of this and Bash it with a hammer yours is an hour too this first time is a day yeah that's a huge difference and it comes into it again trash you are not necessarily paying as much but what are you paying in time yeah and it's not that all peugeots are trash it's just that everything is hard to work on everything's Rusty everything's covered in oil everything's disgusting just a different way thinking about it because Peugeot might be like but why would you ever need to like what are you worried about changing shocks or our technicians get paid to do it anyway yeah or because Peugeot has such a race pedigree they're like if you want to change that it'll go down to a Peugeot Race Shop whereas with a swift you're just doing it yourself because that's the driveway way so we've got to pull this apart and all the tools are a bit weird too like everything's 16s and 18s and sizes are a bit more unusual but anyway we'll pull that apart and keep going I can fully appreciate that right now there are 11 people out there with peugeot's and magnificent beards yelling at the screen about how easy this is but I can honestly say this is way more complicated than the Swift and just about any other car I've done this job on the lower control arm seeps to catch on the Hub which damages the ball joint which means a whole new control arm may be required after some Angry Words and some brute force it finally popped and at that point I worked out the control arms were cooked anyway so I had to order new ones with the drive shafts out some more Angry Words some more WD-40 penetrant and a lobotomy I got it removed and out onto the floor oh it's been four days since we started trying to install some coilovers on this Peugeot I just want to remind you all it took around 45 minutes to do the same job on a Swift and it would have been even quicker we didn't have to change the top hats but it's a different love language man is it yeah speaks a different language that way it's a bit just half the stuff that needed to be removed could only be removed with an angle grinder yes so rusted broken now and then take your parts to replace it then to get them out and to get the shocks out you basically have to trash your lower control arms now these are known to worn out and need to be replaced anyway so look it's not so bad but it does cost more money which sucks so they're the cheapest lower control arms we could get um you couldn't get the bushes to press new bushes in so that they're luckily they're reasonably inexpensive but yeah also new tie rods because they broke so my trash journey is not as good because um I've had to buy boring replacement parts not mods I like Martin how you said they broke because when something breaks it's normally kind of an involuntary action we cut them off because they win an angle grind up because they were rusted they're seized so yeah I mean luckily these bits are cheap so hey we're all right but uh yeah got to replace them so that's boring gonna put the new arms in and then the new coil levers can be bolted into place for those of you wondering because I know having a pubro on the show is new Martin how are you enjoying your pose bro experience I'm enjoying trying to learn its love language means different things and just because you've had one before doesn't mean when you get a new one it uses the same language as the last one that's right nor is it better nor is it any faster nor does it get the job get the job done better but you know what we moved through this experience we learn we install our control arms we get those colors in for our adjustability and we get on with actually driving the thing which I am Keen for France for a thrash we love you France oh yeah we're coming to see you at some point sorry about the submarine thing wasn't us now that me and The Purge are Bros again it can get a new set of control arms some new drop links and I can piece them back together with its new coilovers first I need to remove the factory top hats off the original shocks and install them onto the new coilovers which went in without too much fuss but still way more challenging than a Swift it has been a battle but I'm confident with my mad cheap and cheerful adjustable suspension I'll be able to chop that Swift let's go foreign overs have been installed we're really not going to know how effective they are how good or how bad they are until the cars have been properly set up and then we hit the track again not exactly right and both our suspension setups are entry level in terms of you've got a little bit more adjustment with this one than you do with mine but you can have some control over your right hand it's also worth mentioning that this suspension is brand new so it's going to be at least as good as what we came with from the factory instead of in my case a leaky old rubbish now of course you can spend like we've said you can spend as much money as you can imagine on coilovers but I think both of the systems that we've got are relatively realistic to giving you some extra utility that someone who would own either of these cars would possibly want to buy it but Martin I got some we're going to get a proper setup done we're going to hit the track but what is next what is next is some proper dumpster diving I have legitimately been in bins and recycling bins getting parts of the next round of mods for my car and I have just been um I've just been diving into our shared bank account I'm just like confident as much of it as I can into Yen and just buying parts I do have a modification coming up um that has nothing to do with the engine that did cost around about the same amount as the car for one thing uh and meanwhile he's been in the bin cash first trash by the way do you have a yellow car we have yellow Mighty Car Mods chop shirts like this if you've got a yellow car this is a mandatory buy you have to buy one it helps the show and if you don't have a yellow car I think they're just kind of pretty snazzy anyway what color is it banana colored is if you even needed to ask it's banana yellow so there it is another episode of cash first Trash proudly brought to you by Mighty Car Mods see you next time we'll drag Marty out of the bin and keep going on some budget and some expensive mods all right\n"
