Powercolor CES 2014 - Custom and Watercooled R9 290X

**PowerColor Unveils Impressive R9 290x Cards at CES 2014**

At the 2014 Consumer Electronics Show (CES), PowerColor showcased two highly anticipated graphics cards: the PCS+ R9 290x and the LCS (Liquid Cooling System) R9 290x. These cards are designed to cater to both air cooling and water cooling enthusiasts, offering impressive performance and innovative features.

### Introducing the PCS+ R9 290x: A Beast of a Card

The first card to take center stage is the PCS+ R9 290x, a powerhouse in the world of graphics cards. This card boasts a custom cooler that sets it apart from the competition. The cooling system features six millimeter heat pipes, which are crucial for efficiently managing the heat generated by the R9 290x, a notoriously hot-running GPU.

One of the standout features of this card is its sleek and aesthetic design. The backplate, while primarily serving as an aesthetic enhancement, adds to the overall appeal of the card. It’s worth noting that unlike some other designs, the backplate does not house active cooling elements, but it still manages to look incredibly solid and well-constructed.

The PCS+ R9 290x also features a three-fan design, which is particularly beneficial for such a high-performance GPU. This design ensures better thermal management, leading to improved performance. Although the card has yet to be tested in action, early impressions suggest it will perform at the top tier of existing R9 290x offerings on the market.

### The LCS R9 290x: A Liquid Cooling Marvel

The second card unveiled by PowerColor is the LCS R9 290x, a groundbreaking solution for water cooling enthusiasts. This card features an EK water block, making it a favorite among those who prefer liquid cooling for its efficiency and quieter operation compared to traditional air coolers.

What truly sets this card apart is its premium build quality. The PCBs and components used are of the highest caliber, surpassing standard reference boards in terms of both performance and reliability. The design itself is stunning, with an A1 ( brushed aluminum ) finish that gives it a sophisticated look. The backplate is also designed with thoughtful branding placement, ensuring the logo remains visible even when installed inside a case.

### Competitive Pricing for High-End Performance

PowerColor has ensured that these cards are not only top-tier in performance but also accessible to a wide range of users. The LCS R9 290x retails at $779.99, making it an affordable yet high-performance option for water cooling enthusiasts. Meanwhile, the R9 290 variant is priced at $599, and the R9 290x comes in at $670. These competitive prices make them attractive choices for high-end gamers looking to elevate their gaming experience.

### Conclusion: High-Performance Graphics Cards for Every Gamer

Whether you prefer air cooling or liquid cooling, PowerColor’s new R9 290x cards offer something for everyone. Both the PCS+ and LCS versions are designed with performance and aesthetics in mind, ensuring they meet the demands of even the most discerning gamers.
