Introduction to iOS 14 Beta 7
We are excited to share with you our latest video walkthrough on iOS 14 beta 7, where we dive into some of the user-facing changes that have been introduced in this recent update. Our host, Jeff Benjamin from 9to5mac, is here to guide us through the new features and improvements.
The App Library: A Refinement of Categories
One of the most notable changes in iOS 14 beta 7 is the refinement of categories within the App Library. As we can see on our device, the first category that catches our attention is Productivity and Finance. This change is significant because it attempts to create a more granular structure for all the applications on your device. By grouping productivity and finance apps together, it makes more sense than having them randomly categorized under Lifestyle.
Other New Categories
In addition to Productivity and Finance, we can see other new categories such as Shopping and Food. While Jeff may have mixed shopping with finance in his categorization, he believes that this change works well too. It's interesting to hear from our host about his thoughts on the categorization updates, and we encourage you to share your opinions as well.
How the New Categories Work
As we take a closer look at the App Library, we notice that some of the folders have large icons while others have smaller ones. This design change requires us to adjust our muscle memory slightly, but it's worth noting that you can't simply tap to open one of those folders anymore. If an app has large icons, you can launch it directly by tapping on the icon. On the other hand, if an app has smaller icons, you need to tap the folder and then select the app from within.
Getting Used to the New Design
While this design change may take some time to get used to, Jeff reminds us that our muscle memory is designed to adapt quickly. With practice, we'll be navigating the App Library with ease in no time. The new design may seem a bit unusual at first, but it's ultimately an improvement that will make using your apps more efficient and enjoyable.
Conclusion
In conclusion, iOS 14 beta 7 brings several user-facing changes that are worth exploring. From the refinement of categories within the App Library to the new design for opening folders, each change has been carefully thought out to improve our overall experience with our devices. Whether you're a tech enthusiast or just someone who wants to stay up-to-date with the latest software updates, we encourage you to check out this video walkthrough and learn more about what's new in iOS 14 beta 7.
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: en- So, recently, beta7 for iOS 14 was released, and we're going to discuss a coupleof the noteworthy changesin this video walkthrough.(agile tone)(air whooshing)How's it going ladiesand gins boys and girls?Jeff Benjamin with 9to5mac,we have iOS 14 beta 7 in hand. So, let's talk about acouple of the user-facingnoteworthy changes here in beta 7.We're going to start, as youcan see, with the App Library. Now, the big change this timearound with the App Libraryis the refinement of thevarious categories availableright here within the Library. So, you can see oneright off the bat here,Productivity and Finance. So, it basically tries tocreate a more granular structurefor all the applications on your device. So, productivity, finance, they kind of go hand in hand,I'd say, I mean, instead of having some of those appsrandomly dumped into acategory called Lifestyle.I think that Productivity andFinance makes a lot more senseAnd there other new categoriesthat you'll find as well, like Shopping and Food. Now, I may have decided tomix shopping in with finance, but I think this works as well. What do you guys think?Do you like these category updates?Do you think they shouldhave changed them arounda little bit?Let me know down belowin the comments section. Now, I always forget, you can't just simply tap toopen one of those folders. If it has the large icons there, you simply launch the app directly, the smaller icons, you can openthe folder up just like this. So, with this kind of a weird design,it takes a little time to get used tojust because our muscle memory says,\"You see a folder, you can open that up,\"but that's neither here nor there. While we're here, youcan see the other folderis still filled withall sorts of differentand random applications. So, hopefully, Applecontinues to work on refiningthe App Libraryand coming up withadditional valid categories. And speaking of that, you could see thatTravel is a new category. So, you have Google Mapsand Apple Maps inside there. Now, let's talk about anotherone of the changes herein iOS 14, beta 7,and that's updated wallpaper. Now, of course,iOS 13 had these 14wallpapers already installed. So, you can seeeach one of thesewallpapers is actually two. There's a light versionand a dark version. So, I'm just going to tapyour dark mode option, and that transforms the wallpaperfrom light mode to dark mode, and we simply tap that toggle againto switch back to light mode. Now, what's interesting is that Applehas added six additional new wallpaperswith light and dark variants. And it's no coincidencethat these wallpapersare the six color wallpapersthat were a part of Apple's classic logo. So, each of these wallpapershas a dark and light variant, and the light variant isthe color that you seeon the left side of the wallpaper. The dark variant isactually gonna be the samefor all six of the wallpapers. It's just the regular old black backgroundfor the six colors logo. So, here is the lightvariant for the blue, and I'm going to add thatwallpaper to my home screenand lock screen, soyou can see right here. This is what it looks like.I mean, it's cool, but itis a little busy-looking.Toggle over to dark modeand you can see thebackground simply turns black. And again, what's kindof interesting is thatall six wallpapers, while they have their owndistinct colors in light mode, they all look the same in dark mode,no matter which one you choose. And another thing to note here is thateach of these six wallpapers are basicallyvariants of each of those six colors. So, you have this one would be red. This one would be the purple, this one, of course, yellow, you have orange and you had green, and you also had blue as well. So, I don't know. I mean, you kind of lose some of the varietybecause all of the dark modeversions of these wallpapersare exactly the same. What do you think?Let me know down belowin the comments section. And just wanna remind you guys thatnow in iOS 14 in the YouTube app,you can select 4K video quality. You see right there, 2160p that's so nice.Of course the iPhonedoesn't have a 4K display, but it is higher than 1080p.So, you will gain someresolution benefits, but you also gain higherbit rate benefits, and that's going to makethe videos just lookall that much better.Be sure to subscribeto 9to5mac on YouTube,if you haven't done so already, and if you appreciatedthis particular video, leave me a thumbs up becausethat helps other people find itand hints allows this channel to grow. So, ladies and gentlemen, let me know down belowwhat you think about thelatest changes in featuresin iOS 14 beta 7.This is Jeff with 9to5mac.(soft music continues)\n"
