Anbernic RG Cube XX Hands On, Retro Handheld You've Been Waiting For

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhey what's going on everybody it's ETA Prime back here again today we're going to be taking a look at the allnew RG Cube XX from an bernick I've had this handheld in my possession for about 3 days and I've been using it quite a lot actually enjoying the overall feel of this unit and this handheld might look a bit familiar because recently they did launch the RG Cube but when it comes to the XX version of the cube this is a lower-end version we've actually got an H700 CPU like most of their other lower-end XX line on the market right now but they've kept the same overall design as the original Cube we've still got that 1:1 aspect ratio display dual micro SD cards down here on the bottom does support mini HDMI out and this is also coming in a lot cheaper than the original rgq because over on their website right now this is $59.99 and they do have a few colors to choose from black gray white we're taking a look at the Black Version in this video when it comes to the overall specs like I mentioned this is powered by that all- winner H700 we've seen this in all of their XX line this year in 2024 it's got a Mali g31 mp2 GPU 1 GB of LP ddr4 Ram a 3.95 in IPS display with a 1:1 aspect ratio resolution coming in at 720x 720 and we've got a 3,800 mAh battery and they're claiming you can get around 6 and 1/2 hours of run time out of this thing and I could definitely see that happening but I've been getting around 5 and 1/2 with the screen brightness set to four there's only five different modes here so we're almost at the brightest level when it comes to the overall feel actually a pretty comfortable handheld to hang on to round back we do have this rubber padding here with some grippy texture so it's not going to slip out of your hand nonlinear triggers but most of the stuff we're going to play here won't even utilize that and getting into the software here I do like the feel of this d-pad it's something we will have to test out but yeah having that screen take up the whole mid section here is actually pretty nice and with the original RG Cube I did like the overall design the RG B here does look good we can adjust the brightness there's a bunch of different modes that we can set up with this it's going to be hard for them to beat their last d-pad but if you're into these what I consider dish style this does feel pretty good right out of the box moving down just a bit more in the software again we can fully control that RGB bunch of different modes we can set this up to rapidly flash different colors we can also slow it down we can adjust the brightness but personally I do like the uh rainbow mode and I've got the brightness all the way up on these RGB sticks here you can really take it down if you don't like that brightness and you can totally disable it at night but this is the rainbow Marquee mode that I was talking about one that I prefer just keeping on with it down the list here basically same software that we have on all of their other XX devices and when it comes to Performance I mean we've got a really good idea of what this thing's going to do we've seen the H700 all- winner CPU and a bunch of their other devices this isn't going to run any faster than the other ones on the market basically what they've been doing is giving us a bunch of Cho choices for different shapes different screen sizes different resolutions and some people really do like this one:1 aspect ratio here I think it does work out pretty well with a lot of different systems because they can Implement bezels and that's exactly what we have here from the Retro art section we've got all the basics PSP DS N64 Dreamcast we've got some Mame Neo Geo we can go with FBA 1 two and three original Game Boy Game Boy Advance Super Nintendo NES all of the basics there and that H700 is going to handle most of this stuff up until PSP so there are a lot of games that are going to be fully playable there with PSP but I wouldn't pick this up specifically for PSP emulation first thing I wanted to take a look at was some Game Boy emulation and of course with the H700 it's not going to be a problem to emulate these games but I wanted to see how it looked on this display and with those bezels I do think it looks really good now that P green color is something I personally like for Game Boy and I actually didn't have to change anything it was like this out of the box but if you want to disable it you definitely can you can go black and white you could go orange with it tons of different settings that we can use here and by the way with the RG Cube XX we do have dual speakers so they're downward firing speakers but they sound pretty decent next thing I wanted to test out was this d-pad so I went with some Dreamcast and of course we got to test out some Marvel versus Capcom 2 I do like the feel of it and I'm usually not a big fan of the dish Style d-pads but am bernick has really done a good job with most of their d-pads there have been a couple that were kind of Hit or Miss but this one does feel pretty decent go ahead and pull off some of these special moves here and it might take a second to get used to if you're you know just working with a four-way d-pad for most of the time trying for this uppercut there we go just had to get it positioned right but yeah this is something I could definitely use for fighting games personally I do prefer just a four-way d-pad when it comes down to it playing street fighter games even with Mortal Kombat style games that's what I'm used to but this is definitely usable one of my favorite things to play on these XX devices is Game Boy advanc because these screens do look really good I mean it's an IPS it's fully laminated and with that bezel at the bottom I mean we're getting that correct aspect ratio even though the screen itself is a one to1 and that's because it's scaled properly on this one:1 display and they can use those bezels to kind of hide those black borders there's also a lot of N64 that the H700 can handle but it's not going to do every single game perfectly I mean when it comes down to it most of the time with a lot of these arm chips we're not seeing perfect N64 emulation across the board even with higher-end chipsets with more powerful CPU cores and more powerful gpus it's it's still a bit hit or miss and it really comes down to the emulator you're using most of the time we do have to kind of swap out between different emulators or cores when it comes to different games for N64 but for the most part you should have a pretty decent time with N64 on this thing so like I mentioned I've had this in my possession for about 3 days I'm seeing around 5 and 1/2 hours of runtime at a fully charged battery with the brightness on the screen set to the fourth position so we got five different brightness levels here from software now on their website they state that it'll do 6.5 hours and at the lowest brightness yeah I could definitely see something like that being true but between GBA Dreamcast FBA and some MIM is most of the stuff that I've been emulating on this 5 and 1/2 hours and it's really not that bad when it comes down to it I've seen some people online just complaining about the overall look of their Cube series and to tell you the truth when I first saw it I did not like it I didn't think it was going to fit in the hand right but after getting the original RG Cube and now the RG Cube XX I really do like the overall design and the fact that we've got that 720x 720 1:1 aspect ratio screen right there in the middle allows us to kind of scale most of the stuff that we're going to be playing on this perfectly with bezels but there is one major issue that a lot of people keep bringing up with their XX line and that's the fact that we've got so many of them with that same CPU across the board they're going to be able to emulate the same thing we're not working with a more powerful CPU here we've got the same Linux operating system that we've seen and basically what's going on here is they're giving us different form factor choices screen sizes battery sizes so there's a lot of them on the market right now that are going to do the exact same thing just in a different form factor so in the end it's going to be up to you to decide if you want one at all and if so which On's most appealing but at the price point they've got this at I don't think it's a bad deal $59.99 you've got thousands and thousands of games that you're going to be able to play on this thing just fine and if you do like the cube form factor you know what you're getting into here then I don't think you're going to be disappointed with this device at all but that's going to wrap it up for this video I really appreciate you watching if you're interested in learning a little more about the RG Cube XX or you want to pick one up I'll leave links in the description and if there's anything else you want to see running on this just let me know in the comments below and like always thanks for watchinghey what's going on everybody it's ETA Prime back here again today we're going to be
