**The Ultimate Versatility: Custom Vans**
In a world where car culture has numerous sub-groups that can be hard to keep track of, one subculture stands out as impossible to confuse - vans. Today, we'll take you on a journey through the fascinating world of custom vans, showcasing their versatility and exploring three key categories: practicality, nostalgia, and all-out power.
**The Rise of Vans**
Vans are experiencing a resurgence in popularity, with high-performance machines like this 1000 horsepower burnout machine coexisting alongside custom throwbacks and even vans that can be used as homes. Just like Kirby from Nintendo, vans have become an integral part of American culture for decades, reaching their peak in the 1970s.
**Breaking Down Vans into Three Categories**
To understand what makes vans special, we'll categorize them into three groups:
1. **Practicality**: With a van, you don't have to worry about rent, and because it's limited by space, your material possessions are significantly reduced.
2. **Nostalgia**: Vans evoke memories of the past, with many custom vans serving as throwbacks to a bygone era. Instagram-worthy van life accounts often romanticize living in a van, but what does it really feel like?
3. **All-Out Power**: From high-performance machines to vans that can be driven off-road, there's no denying the sheer power and versatility of these vehicles.
**The Reality of Van Life**
Living in a van might seem appealing at first, but what's it like in reality? Let's hear from someone who does it. Meet Tanner, who lives in a 2006 Dodge Sprinter van. We'll take you on a tour of his home and explore the pros and cons of living in a van.
**Conclusion**
Vans are more than just a mode of transportation - they're a way of life. Whether you're looking for practicality, nostalgia, or all-out power, there's a van out there for everyone. Join us as we continue to explore the world of custom vans and discover their unique charm.

And then afterthat they said absolutely not.We cannot do that again.- That's pretty funny. This one is just all my food.Camera over here.My library. And then down here is my propane cook-topwith my skillet and pot.- I'm noticing a distinctlack of mattress back here....Where do you sleep?- I sleep on this here hammock.- Oh wow, look at that. All right Nolanget in that Hammock.- I'm not, I can't, I don'twanna deal with my arm.I don't wanna risk it.Should I?You should!Yeah you should!- All right. If you think you'regonna get hurt I wouldn't...- What is this rated for?- Four hundred pounds.- All right we good.- You're pulling it under you.- Oh jeez.(indistinct talking)- Uh Oh.(slow distorted voices)- It was just in the wrong hole- Nope.- Per uge.(overlapped talking)- ...now that it's safe in the house,do you want a second go?- No, we're not trying that again.- No we're good. We're good.We don't need to try that again....Lets move on, letskeep going in the video.- I would not changethis for the world andI don't see this changing anytime soon.- So variescan push the boundariesof practicality from beingable to hold lots of stuff,to being able to hold your entire life. But what if you're not interested in that?Maybe its because I'm a60 year old man at heart- [Nolan but vans like these, are what I imagine whenI hear the word, "van".There is a term we use todescribe vans like this...Shag and Wagon.Shag and wagons typicallytook on elements popularin the muscle car scene at the time.- Mag wheels.Raked Forward Stance.Side exit exhaust and big power.- People would hang out, smoke a little green and...Do other things in their Shag and Wagons. There are a devoted few whostill rock these things...out of choice.- Like this guy.(easygoing rock music)- I actually chose a van because...My balls wouldn't fitin the muscle car andeveryone scratches their headsand say "why'd you do it?"Just because.- When I'm drivingthat van I feel like I'm 16.Nostalgia played into everything.Hence the straight axel, hence the big block chevy.Purple leopard skin.Ya know we wanted it tobe just a total throwback. The paint was actuallyput together from a guy,- That he had scraps laying around. He just mixed them togetherand it came out Blurple.- Lets talk aboutthe name, of the Boogy Van.How did you come up with that?- Because it reallydoesn't do anything...But boogy.- But boogy.- It hauls ass, that's pretty much it.- What's the dealwith the leopard skin?- I could have put shagcarpet but if you know,a lot of the guys in the 70's,that's all they did with shag carpet.- We wanted it to stand out.- Should we climb in?(slowed down) Should we climb in?(distorted voice)what do you think? Its a little-(grunting)Hard to do with one arm.(kids cheering)- You have a nitrous canister?- If a 80052 horse aint enough, then...You have extra.(laughing)- Working on this van with my son has beena really nice, a reallynice bonding experience.- He's more GDM andhe's more Japanese motor. He'l have a lot moreinfluence on the next one.- So stock, it doeslift, it already does...- Yes, this is actuallythe stock location.- It actually uses a factoryengine cradle for 307.We lowered that twoinches and then the resthas been soak framed from wheel to wheel.- And its got a full customshiny cross member underneath.- I mean its called the boogyvan, so I feel like we should,Boogy, in the van.(laughing)- What?(laughing) Perfect! Vans are kinda boring.- Literal boxes on wheelsthey're not fast, theycertainly don't handleAnd frankly they're not veryinteresting to look at either. But that changes, when you start giving them attributestypically found on other cars. There's perhaps, nobetter example of this, than Bisimoto's Honda Odyssey.(upbeat music)- My children love it.I have six year old daughterand a sixteen month old son.- They are thecoolest kids at their school, because of this mini van.- At a factory, makesabout two hundred horses. But this now? A thousand twenty nine. It's absolutely frighting, canspin the tires in any gears,It's absolutely fantastic.- The automatic factory gear boxcannot handle the power.- So, we are opted for AcuraTL Type S. Manual gear box.- So that being said, you can actually eat your cakeand have it too.Rowing gears and experience the power,of a very amazing mini van.Everywhere I go with this car, this van, people go bananas. So we needed moremembers of the van mafia.( laughs) it's very important to us.- So...I think the first thing people noticewhen they see this car and- They thinksomething might be different.Your inner cooler,- Yes.- This is my signature. Ilike to give a little hintof what's lurking underneath. And this is the only thing that shows, that something awry isgoing on with this vehicle.- Factory J. 35Mill, so its not a swap, but internals are heavily reinforced. And this is the baby here.A sixty nine millimeter bilet.Yes, sixty nine millimeterprecision turbo.- It is very important for meto look good every time I park.- So I have thisreally cool airbag system, courtesy of Air Ride Suspicion. That allows me to bringit down nice and low.- And of course, for thechildren, a booster seat, and a proper Recaro, child raise seat.- You have a roll bar in there too.- I sure do!- Yeah, I haveto, safety is paramount.- Wow.- But everything works just like factory,Even when you put a sidemirror, you wanna turn,It shows the indication on the side.Reverse camera work, just like factory. It's just like a factory car,- But with a lotof power and a lot of fun.(engine revving)(indistinct shout)(excited laughing)- It's a mini van. Its a mini van!- We never knew,Mini vans could be sexy, letalone, performance vehicles.- I love this van,not just because it can breakthe tired lose in any gear, butbecause it really shows thepotential Inside all vans.I think an opinion most car nerds have,is that they never owned a mini van.- But what if it was like Bisi's?Probably would then.- Remember, vans, are like Kirby. You just gotta give them alittle taste of some other carand they'll start givingoff, that cars energy.- Plus I'm wearing vans right now.- Thanks to ExpressVPNfor sponsoring this episode of Wheelhouse.ExpressVPN helps yourprivacy and anonymity. All I have to do is connectto an ExpressVPN serverand one of ninety four different countriesand I can see any video my heart desires. The best part is,its less than seven bucks a month. And There's a 30 day money back guaranteeI go to hotels, I go to fast food placesand those are open networksthat you can just connect to,right?
