BLUE Raspberry Microphone Review - Small but Mighty!

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhi guys welcome back to the tech chat where today and reviewing this little thing this is the brand-new blue raspberry a premium mobile USB microphone now you may recognize the name blue as their the company behind this thing the famous Yeti microphone a popular choice for podcasters voiceovers and recordings but not only is the Yeti 7 years old it's also pretty big and this is where the brand new blue raspberry microphone comes in it's small enough to fit in your hand you can record with it using your iPhone iPad PC or Mac it's got a little headphone output on the back so you can check sound levels it's a handy gain control on one side which doubles as a mute button if you press it down on the other side you've got a headphone volume control so it's packing all the features you'd want but most importantly the recording sound great the microphone is really high-quality despite its dainty size in fact I'm recording this entire video from the raspberry right now but one other thing I like is it's got this built-in foldable stand which means you can prop it up on any surface and get recording straight away and it also helps reduce and isolate the microphone vibrations on the technical side of things it recalls 24-bit 48 kilohertz audio and also uses what blue call an internal acoustic diffuser which focuses on the voice and also instruments but also minimises ambient or environmental noise and to my ear having tested it a few times I'm actually really impressed with it the recordings sound warm and rich and clear now I don't think it quite matches the range and the fidelity of the bigger Yeti if I bring it in I can swap between the audio on both devices here but really the fact that the blue raspberry is so much smaller and also actually a little bit further away from your mouth so you may have to up the gain a touch on it compared to the Yeti I think it still sounds great I think at my desk or in my studio I would still use the Yeti because it's just well it looks great it's close to your mouth you can more easily fit a pop filter and it is just a little bit better but the differences really isn't that significant as you can tell between as I'm switching between the audio here but considering how much more possibilities I'm a big fan of the raspberry now moving the Yeti to one side in the box with the raspberry you get two cables you get a micro USB to lightning for your iPhones on your iPad's and also a micro USB to USB which I'm currently using plugging into this laptop to record this through audacity so you've got all the equipment you need in the box to get going straightaway and you also get a cute little suede carrying pouch in the box as well now sound quality is important but it doesn't tell the whole story so let me tell you why I am really excited for the raspberry here first off the company behind it blue did send this to me as a review sample but all my comments or my opinions on my own I didn't pay me anything and I am honestly genuinely very impressed with it now I'm a long-term user of the Yeti here which is great for recording voiceovers if I'm not using that I'll tend to use a shotgun mic a rode videomic pro to record my videos now the Yeti and a shotgun do a great job when I'm in the studio or the office but when I go to events conferences or if I meet people from the tech industry and I want to be called an interview now the Yeti or the shotgun mic are really good enough the Yeti is far too big to carry around with me and the shotgun takes in too much ambient noise now the best solution if I'm going to be called an interview is probably to use a lapel Michael level a mic and put that on the talent but good ones like the Sennheiser aw 100's cost over 500 pounds and the fact that I can pack the blue-raspberry in my backpack or just about fit it in my jacket pocket then quickly place it on a table plug it into your phone on my laptop start recording and as I say it can be this close like I am now so that's got quite a good interview recording quality or I could place it in the middle of a table between a lots of people to get more of a podcast going it's like capability and the portability which really makes the product stand out now it isn't cheap the blue raspberry is 170 pounds or $200 so it is actually more expensive than the Yeti and it is probably more targeted at prosumer and enthusiasm a nothing really competes with its size it's recording quality in that sort of price range and I think it looks pretty cute too I really like the red leather and also the classic retro style mic grill that's blue is famous for from the yetis so the blue raspberry here it comes out in November 2016 and can be bought from Amazon or Maplin but more retailers are coming soon although once it's launched I will put links in the description below so you can go and check those out thank you very much for watching guys please do
