Introduction to Alpha Squared HD

I'm Leanna with iMore Calm, and I'm here with Simon from X Squared, who's going to tell us about Alpha Squared HD. As you know, it's been around for a few years now, but we just recently put out a new update that has done a big update to our document editor. With this update, we're trying to make it easier for people to digitally create and edit documents on their iPads.

A Goal of Easier iPad Document Editing

One goal of this update is to make it easier for people to digitally create and edit documents from start to finish, without having to go back and forth between the iPad and a laptop. Currently, many apps only allow you to make a few edits, and then you have to transfer the document back to your laptop to finish it off, which defeats the purpose of using an app in the first place.

A Focus on Education

Another goal that we had was recognized a few months ago that education was going to be a big part of the iPad. This is being validated with last week's announcement, so we've tried to build in functionality that makes it easy for students to conform to lab at MLA guidelines. Students need to be able to do things like indent paragraphs, set margins, and use double line spacing.

Features of Alpha Squared HD

We've got a lot of rich features in our document editor, including line spacing, multiple columns, formatting options, section breaks, floating images, and more. With floating images, you can actually drag an image and the text around it will move. We also have various ways of wrapping the text area, such as above, below, or inline. Additionally, we handle features like tab stops, where you can add touch scoffs and taps.

A Unique Feature - Right-to-Left Languages

One feature that sets us apart from other apps, including Pages, is our support for right-to-left languages. This means that countries like Israel, with Hebrew communities, and Arabic countries are popular users of our app, because we can accommodate their language needs.
