**A Labor of Love: The Story Behind a Restored Duramax Truck**

The restoration process is a journey that requires patience, dedication, and a willingness to take risks. For this project, our mechanic had his hands full with a Duramax truck that was beyond its prime. With a multitude of problems to tackle, the goal was to bring it back to life in all its glory.

**From Brakes to Charge Pipes**

One of the biggest hurdles to overcome was the brake issue that had developed during power breaking tests. The mechanic noted that the brakes were pretty hard on the truck's braking system, so they would need to address this problem before continuing with the restoration process. Fortunately, the truck did stop, and this presented a temporary reprieve from the issues at hand.

The truck was also running on big slicks, which added to its rugged appearance. The mechanic expressed his excitement about seeing the finished product, noting that it's "pretty legit." Despite some teething problems, including questioning the design of the charge pipes, everything seemed to be coming together.

Despite some technical challenges ahead, our mechanic remains optimistic about completing the project within the year. There's still much work to be done, including transfer case, shifter, transmission, and nitrous line installations. However, with Kyle's help and a great deal of dedication, the truck is making excellent progress.

The goal for the end of the year is to fine-tune the truck for optimal performance, while also addressing any remaining issues. A dyno run will be essential in this phase, allowing our mechanic to gauge power output and make final adjustments before putting it on track.

so they have like an oversized cap uh for the yolk end and then a smaller reducer one to go to the yolks that we currently have so that uh in the future if we ever upgrade we don't have to change the leak on the trans I'm not fitting right there yeah you see it's all dented in oh yeah yeah real bad no bueno so get that guy changed out luckily I have another one because that's a special piece that's holds the center support for a lady yeah it does look very specific so good thing you got more yep you know take that in around get that guy changed out should be good to go was it just taking a second for that converter to fill that's probably why I wasn't moving at first yep just took a minute once all that fluid got in there all right that's so cool dude it's first turnout did it spin at all you did it yeah I did a burnout no turbo baby let's go no boost burnouts dude that's so cool all right so gotta get some nuts and bolts for the rear axle tighten the steering up then you can take it around the yard and then we can go around the yard because right now if you look all the steering components are held on by no nuts and a quarter inch of thread yeah and you're missing some stuff in the back uh you want to open the door that's another thing oh she's cruising foreign is this the first time putting water in this engine since you built it that's how I built it will make sure it's not full of water now drove to the shop under its own power the days of pushing it are over finally yeah this thing's a pig it's not heavy yeah well I guess the John Deere did most of the work yeah but I'll tell y'all right now it is slightly over 4 000 pounds with me in it but that's fully together everything in it fuel the whole deal hey but now those drive shafts are connected she runs yup makes it a lot easier so complete now yeah dude just need some paint I can't believe it too thing looks so sick oh looks so good foreign pretty wild bro dude it's come so far I can't believe it moves it's so sick freaking legit dude yeah just a couple more things gotta get the hood to last get some Hood pins on there yeah I'm definitely just getting rid of those hinges I was trying to put like the Boost pipes and stuff back on it pain with the hood in there so definitely gonna be a liftoff Hood oh yeah yeah I'm gonna just put some like Hood pins and it'll just set on and be done because that's a pain that'll just get a fiberglass front clip for it but you know race truck things in the future yeah very soon probably but hey got it moving yesterday yep and then pulled it up here last night got some water in it and then yeah spent the rest of the day buttoning some things up yeah got all of the glass back in it yeah that was the biggest thing getting the gloss in it turned out great though so it's OEM front glass and then uh lexan side and rear window and I think they turned out really good so came out really good yeah so yeah the back and sides are like saying that you cut out yep and then the front is OEM glass I don't know if we showed them they roll up to you pretty legit yeah she is these clips because they ain't going nowhere she is so close the paint the paint is like gonna be the biggest thing so that and the brakes I need to still work on that I think they'll be a lot better once the Hydro Boost is hooked up because that whole system is designed to have the Hydra boost and it's not working right now so and you gotta get the power steering stuff figured out yeah and that'll all be with the just getting that hooked up so it just needs a serpentine belt but that'll probably help a lot because when I was trying to power break it there that was pretty hard on the brakes so we'll have to see about that but might might have to change some things up I don't you supposed to be you can see the Giant counterweight on it makes it looks like it's wobbling in the videos calm down I know you're a YouTube mechanic but it's perfectly fine sometimes like your balancer's falling off it's totally okay it's because the Duramax crank has a uh external camera internal counterweight there that has to ride on the balancer yep so that is how it is made it's not falling off people nope it's totally perfectly fine it does look a little funny in there though it does look like it's loose but if you know you know so then if it actually does come loose you might not ever know might just fall off because it always looks loose you'll have that you know it's the one downside when it takes out the the hot side pipe you know that's what it is maybe when it starts looking not loose you know it's loose there you go when it's even down yeah like cockeyed you know you're like oh something's wrong that should look way more wobbly right solid man marker lights dude that'll probably help a lot because when I was trying to power break it there that was pretty hard on the brakes so we'll have to see about that but might might have to change some things up I don't know but we'll address that at a later date for right now it does stop so that's all you need power break it it's also on a big slick so yeah who knows but it's pretty legit dude I'm just excited it moves gonna give it a quick bath first bath ever probably gonna regret it because everything's gonna rust it's just gonna take all the pain off yeah for real kind of out of lost words man it's just crazy to see it at this point just never thought I'd see the day dude she's looking so good yeah got all the charge pipes back on man it's really coming almost complete when everything's kind of like put on you know not completely done I was kind of questioning like how I did the charge pipes and stuff but with the hood on it everything on it thoroughly approve of the decision to do them that way it looks sick yeah it came out awesome hell yeah she runs and drives yeah and uh you know polishes herd up be good to go oh yeah smoke in the pipe dude so far man still a lot to do but man that's just a great A lot has been done yeah that's a great Point man you want to tell everyone why the pink pulley looks like that yeah so everybody commenting that the crank toys loose it's not loose I'll show you supposed to be you can see the Giant counterweight on it makes it looks like it's wobbling in the videos calm down I know you're a YouTube mechanic but it's perfectly fine sometimes like your balancer's falling off it's totally okay it's because the Duramax crank has a uh external camera internal counterweight there that has to ride on the balancer yep so that is how it is made it's not falling off people nope it's totally perfectly fine it does look a little funny in there though it does look like it's loose but if you know you know so then if it actually does come loose you might not ever know might just fall off because it always looks loose you'll have that you know it's the one downside when it takes out the the hot side pipe you know that's what it is maybe when it starts looking not loose you know it's loose there you go when it's even down yeah like cockeyed you know you're like oh something's wrong that should look way more wobbly right solid man marker lights dude this is the shot right here just the smoke just hazing out of the pipe there that looks sick like we said before if any of you guys are going to be out at PRI Wyatt will be there with the race truck yep Booth 71-78 or just outside of Green Hall and that is December 8th through the 10th at the Indy Event Center Convention Center one of them if you guys are going you know where it's at we'll see make power so I just want to get everything buttoned up before then make it a little more friendly to the the driver but uh it's pretty close so not quite sure it'll make it by the end of the year but there is a chance so we'll see oh yeah but it's definitely come a long ways yeah really come together this last month man just bust an ass trying to get this thing done and runs and drives couldn't have done it without Kyle's help either so appreciate him giving me time off and of course freaking sick so hopefully very soon we can line this thing up with uh with one of the cars with Kyle's Fleet you know maybe a little hatch on truck crime or something yeah I think when she's running good the hatch over there needs a little piece of that yeah that'd be a fun one race yeah that'd be sweet man
