iOS 14 on iPhone SE - A Nice Surprise!

**iOS 14 Update on iPhone SE: Storage Issues and Battery Life**

I'm here to share with you my experience with iOS 14 on my iPhone SE, which is a device that was initially thought to be slow and lacking in performance when it comes to this latest update. However, I'm pleased to say that the performance is surprisingly good, but there's one major issue that needs to be addressed before I can fully recommend this update.

My storage space is almost full, and I've had to delete most of my applications just because of this bug in iOS 14 where other apps take up so much of my storage space. This storage issue could be the reason that the performance is bad on iOS 14 for some of you on the iPhone SE. If your storage is almost full, it doesn't matter what device you're on; it's going to be slow, it's going to lag, and you're going to have issues. Most people probably won't want to delete a lot of applications, so just be aware that the storage bug is an issue and it really impacts those with 16 gigabyte devices like myself.

**Performance Issues due to Storage Space**

I would recommend at least 2 gigabytes of free space to actually have a good experience on iOS 14. If you don't have enough storage space, performance will be affected. In my case, the performance is good as long as I still have some storage space left, but if I were to delete more applications or use up more space, I'm afraid it would impact performance.

**Battery Life: The Most Surprising Part**

The battery life is easily the most surprising part of iOS 14 on the iPhone SE. I did not expect a good battery life at all, especially with this device being one of the older models. However, after using it for 25-26 minutes, I was still at 86%, which is impressive considering that I'm running screen time and other features like widgets.

**Standby Time and Battery Health**

I also noticed that even standby time is extremely good; it doesn't drain the battery like it does on the iPhone 6S. The widgets seem to not affect the battery life as much either, unlike on the iPhone 6S. I can see my battery health at 91% with optimized charging enabled, which is great.

**Should You Install iOS 14 on Your iPhone SE?**

I would recommend installing iOS 14 on your iPhone SE, but only after the storage bug gets fixed. The developer beta 3 or public beta 2 should have a fix for this issue, and it's essential to keep an eye on that before updating your device.

**Target Audience and Conclusion**

This update is mainly targeted towards users with 16 or 32 gigabyte devices, as those who have more storage space may not face the same issues. However, it's crucial to be aware of this storage bug and its impact on performance. If you're considering installing iOS 14 on your iPhone SE, make sure to watch my update videos for any updates regarding this issue.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enwhat's up guys my name is Brandon and I've been testing out I US 14 on my first generation iPhone se here for the past few weeks now so we are on beta 2 or the first public beta and I've been running it here on the SE for a little while now and I wanted to share my experience with you guys and after my last video where I covered the iPhone 6s on iOS 14 I have to admit that my expectations were not very high for the iPhone se but it definitely surprised me so let's go ahead and talk about some of the new features in iOS 14 and then we're going to discuss the performance the battery life the connectivity and if you should consider updating your iPhone se to iOS 14 or not and of course the first thing we should talk about are the widgets so of course with iOS 14 one of the headlining features are widgets so if you just tap anywhere on the screen you will go into wiggle mode and then you'll see the plus icon there in the top right corner now on notch devices and newer devices it is on the left-hand side I find that to be easier but it is over here on the right on the iPhone se same with the iPhone 6s and then you get all your widgets that you can select from right here as you can see we have the featured photos up top we have our Maps we have our music and we have the smart stack batteries we have all of these different widgets we can add to the home screen which is really nice now some of my favorites especially on the iPhone se since it is such a small screen I really like having these smart stacks and just putting widgets on top of one another so if we go ahead to the smart stack here or really any of the widgets at all you see you do have different sizes you can choose from I do find the smaller sizes to be a lot more practical on the iPhone se again because of that smaller screen it's like you wanted to do the batteries this big widget right here it's not really big but it is big on the iPhone se screen so I find the smaller ones to be a lot more practical and once again I'd be like stacking them as well so let's just go ahead and do files right here this is one of the new ones in the first public beta or the second developer beta let's go ahead and add this to the home screen and you can see here we have the weather and we have the calendar and reminders here all in one and that's pretty nice if I wanted to add files to that I could just simply drag it right over top of it and then we have them all in one right there which is great once again for this condensed smaller screen and there are going to be bugs since we are still in a bit you can see here my weather is still set to Cupertino for some reason even though that's not what I haven't set to you can see I haven't set too where I live and when I go back to the homescreen it still shows Cupertino so there are still some bugs to sort out of course we are on a beta but I do like the witness here on the iPhone se more than I thought I would I definitely did not think I was gonna actually have them on my home screen based on how small the screen is but I do like it a lot especially having the weather and our battery you know status and everything right there it's really nice and then if we scroll all the way over to the right we do have the app library here as well where we could see all of our applications that we have installed we could also search them here in alphabetical order which is really nice and this is also great for hiding applications from your home screen if you don't want them to be on your home screen you can just hide them by simply just go in tapping and then go to remove application then you'll see we have a new option there that says remove from home screen do that then all the sudden it's not deleted it's just going to be in your app library and not on your springboard which is nice you can also hide full pages if you wanted to as well so if you go into wiggle mode and then just tap on the dots down here and then uncheck the page you can see there we have a full page hidden and none of those applications show up except for in the app library now also in iOS 14 on the iPhone se we get picture and picture mode so if we go into Safari and launch a video then we go out of it you can see there we have the video still playing up in the top right corner we can't move it around to any of the corners we want to we can also double tap right there for a new size so there's actually three different sizes and they're not as big of a difference on such a small screen like this as they are on the bigger screens but it is still pretty nice to have all three of those sizes like you do on all the other devices as well I found myself with how small the screen is on the iPhone se when I do picture and picture I just find myself swapping it over to the side and just listening to the video just because it still takes up so much room no matter what application man or what I'm trying to do I just find that it takes up too much room to really be practical so I just tend to listen to the audio of that video instead of watch the video itself but it's really nice to have picture a picture once again does work for YouTube when you use Safari it also works for twitch if you're watching some live streams it works for Netflix HBO and I'm sure other applications will be supported in the future as well but picture a picture really nice here on the iPhone se when you use it as audio only as what I find in my experience now also we do have the control center right here which as you can see it looks the same right here but we do have some added controls that we can add to the control center so if we go to our settings control center you can see that we have a toggle for show home controls and this will bring up our home kit devices right there so you see on my home pod and then my favorites right here as well now these were a little bit bigger in the first bit of the first developer beta Apple did condense the size a little bit but you can see here they are still pretty large for the small iPhone se screen they take up a lot you can't see your toggles unless you scroll down which it's kind of an inconvenience I mean I know it's a small thing to complain about but I would like these to be even smaller than they are and maybe on the same side I don't know I think they should just be a little bit smaller but I tend to not use these on these small screens like the success and the SE just because I like being able to have easy access to my toggles but it is still nice if you do have homekit enabled devices and you want to control them from your control center now also in the music application we get a nice new now playing screen so you can see there takes the dominant colors of the album artwork and puts in the background for a really clean really modern look and I love how we get this on the iPhone se as well I don't know why we wouldn't but it's so cool to see the iPhone se getting all the features that all the other newer phones get as well now we do also have a new control here so if we go to our cue you can see we have these shuffle to repeat and then we have an infinite play back one right there so talking right there so that you basically never run out of music to play it so even if you're playing like an album or a playlist and all the songs end and you don't have repeat on and will start searching for other music and start playing other music that's similar to what you just listened to which is really nice I really like that new feature and you'll also notice when you go to a album page or an artist page right here there is a slight difference in just the way these look as well I just like the music application as a whole looks a lot cleaner and a lot more refined in iOS 14 now also new in iOS 14 which is really nice for older devices is the ability to change the quality and the frame rate straight from the camera application so now you no longer have to go into the camera app to change from for example as you can see up there at 720p we tap it it goes to 1080 tap again it goes to 4k we're at 30fps if we go back to like 1080p and tap on 30 it goes to 60 so you can change both of those straight from the camera app which is really nice you do have to change some settings in inside the settings application and camera to get that ability because it's not enabled by default but that is a nice new feature here in iOS 14 for older devices now also in Safari we do get some nice privacy features here if we tap these two A's up in the address bar and then go to privacy reports you can see here we get our privacy report it says Safari prevents trackers from following you across websites then it shows the last 30 days how many trackers were prevented and then it will show actually which websites had those trackers and if you tap on trackers right here it will show you know the types of trackers they are and most of the time is just going to be like advertising like Google Adsense and double-click and things like that nothing harmful but this is nice to have if there was something harmful on some trackers and we're following you around through Safari and certain websites now speaking of privacy if you go to our settings and go to the privacy tab right here you can see we have a new section here for tracking that says allow apps to request to track you and it says allow apps to ask to use an identifier that can be used to combine your activity across apps and websites you can see that is grayed out but it is coming to iOS 14 and also to go to any of our applications down here in settings so let's just say Instagram for example so Instagram doesn't have it solicitors through Twitter you can see there we have access to local network that is new as well that's a new toggle inside of there and then if we scroll down on location services right here and go to one of these applications it will send Maps for example some of these will show the option to use or not to use your precise location so now applications don't have to know your precise location they'll just know your approximate location so obviously for maps I will want it to have the precise location but maybe for like you know Twitter or Instagram or another application you may not want it to know your exact location so you can now have it just show an approximate which is pretty nice for privacy and of course there are hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of other features in iOS 14 that I covered here on the channel and I will continue to cover in the future but that's not what this video is about I just wanted to talk to you guys about some of the features that I like on the iPhone se specifically and kind of how they performed on it kind of just the gist of all the features and it's really nice once again that we have pretty much all the new features that the iPhone 11 at the you know the pro max gets which is just awesome for a 2016 device though getting all of those new features and really not being restricted at all by iOS 14 so now let's talk about some of the important things on the iPhone se like deeper for and the battery life here on iOS 14 so I am currently on the latest version which is beta 2 beta 3 will be out soon but beta 2 is extremely good when it comes to performance it is better than beta 1 and honestly the performance is pretty much right on par with iOS 13 point 6 if not even better so some of the bugs and the app crashes are annoying and that wouldn't happen on a final version like iOS 13 but just raw performance wise this build is extremely solid on the iPhone se I usually recommend against it but I have even been playing games I've been doing social media things I've had picture and picture going mom you know writing tweets and doing random things like writing notes and browsing the web and things like that so I'm pretty much multitasking on this 2016 i phone se on iOS 14 and things are solid I mean besides the random bugs and crashes that I get on all the devices I really have no complaints in terms of performance here on the iPhone se now I do have to mention the storage bug now this could be fixed and the next beta beta 3 but the storage bug is a real thing in iOS 14 and it's the big reason why I recommend most people do not update if they have an iPhone se with 16 gigabytes of memory so if we go to my settings general iPhone storage take a look at my storage there you could see I'm almost full and really the only reason I was able to even install this update was because I had to delete most of my applications just because of this bug in iOS 14 where the other takes up so much of my storage space there and this storage issue could be the reason that the performance is bad on iOS 14 for some of you on the iPhone se if your storage is almost full it doesn't matter what device you're on it's gonna be slow it's gonna lag and you're gonna have issues so just be aware of this now of course you can delete a lot of applications but most people probably won't want to do that so just be aware that the storage bug is an issue and it really impacts those with 16 gigabyte devices like myself here with the iPhone se and possibly you as well so performance is good as long as you still have some storage space left I would recommend at least like 2 gigabytes 1.5 to 2 gigabytes free to actually have a good experience on iOS 14 here so now let's talk about the battery life and the battery life is easily the most surprising part to me so the performance was good that was surprising to me but battery life honestly is the most surprising to me because I did not expect a good battery life at all really on any beta's on the iPhone se but especially not I us 14 and early beta I did not expect it to be as good as it is and especially after I said how bad the iPhone 6s is on iOS 14 in terms of battery life I was really surprised to see how good the iPhone se is so you can see up there I'm at 86% and you know I was at like 97% when I started this video about 25 26 minutes ago so it's actually held up good being on screen time and everything like that I also noticed that even standby time is extremely good it doesn't drain the battery like it does on the iPhone 6s and the widgets seem to not affect the battery life as much either as they do on the iPhone 6s so you will see some battery drain I shouldn't even say drain just some battery usage from having widgets like you know the weather widgets and things that update like that but really it hasn't been that noticeable it has not been a drastic you know hit on the battery on it the iPhone se here if we go to my settings and check out my battery health you can see I'm at 91% and I do have optimized the battery charging and able so I do have a pretty good you know maximum capacity there for my battery health but if yours is lower you can't expect you know slightly worse battery life but overall it seems like iOS 14 it's optimized pretty well for the iPhone se the first generation iPhone se which really shocked me and it's really a big big Pro for the SE on iOS 14 so now should you install iOS 14 on your iPhone se and I say yes but only after the storage bug gets fixed and that should be fixed by the next beta so developer beta 3 or public beta 2 is when we should see a fix for the storage bug but we don't know yet we're just assuming I'm just assuming that it will be fixed so make sure you keep it locked to the channel to make sure that's fixed before you update your iPhone se to IUS 14 now of course I am mainly talking to those with 16 or 32 gigabyte devices so if you do have storage you know greater than that then you may not face as big of an issue as uh slow storage device users but that is one thing to keep in mind and once again make sure you watch my update videos on at least iOS 14 betas to see if that storage bug has been fixed because once again that's causing a lot of issues with performance a lot of people opted delete applications some people can't even update so just keep that in mind when even thinking or considering updating to iOS 14 on your iPhone se but I want to hear from you guys what do you guys think about iOS 14 on the iPhone se do you have this installed on your iPhone se do you still use it every day let me know all your thoughts down in the comment section below you guys know I love responding to you down there as well if you haven't joined the discord server go ahead and join the discord server as well we'll have that link the invite down in the description below for you guys to go ahead and chat over there as well and if you guys enjoyed this video I would appreciate if you give it a thumbs up and make sure you guys do subscribe for a lot more iOS core team coverage here on the channel but anyways guys thanks again for watching and I'll see you soonwhat's up guys optimized the battery charging and able so I do have a pretty good you know maximum capacity there for my battery health but if yours is lower you can't expect you know slightly worse battery life but overall it seems like iOS 14 it's optimized pretty well for the iPhone se the first generation iPhone se which really shocked me and it's really a big big Pro for the SE on iOS 14 so now should you install iOS 14 on your iPhone se and I say yes but only after the storage bug gets fixed and that should be fixed by the next beta so developer beta 3 or public beta 2 is when we should see a fix for the storage bug but we don't know yet we're just assuming I'm just assuming that it will be fixed so make sure you keep it locked to the channel to make sure that's fixed before you update your iPhone se to IUS 14 now of course I am mainly talking to those with 16 or 32 gigabyte devices so if you do have storage you know greater than that then you may not face as big of an issue as uh slow storage device users but that is one thing to keep in mind and once again make sure you watch my update videos on at least iOS 14 betas to see if that storage bug has been fixed because once again that's causing a lot of issues with performance a lot of people opted delete applications some people can't even update so just keep that in mind when even thinking or considering updating to iOS 14 on your iPhone se but I want to hear from you guys what do you guys think about iOS 14 on the iPhone se do you have this installed on your iPhone se do you still use it every day let me know all your thoughts down in the comment section below you guys know I love responding to you down there as well if you haven't joined the discord server go ahead and join the discord server as well we'll have that link
