Working Out with a Vision Pro — Great or Terrible

Good Evening and Welcome to Today's Experiment: Can You Work Out in a Vision Pro?

I've already answered this question, but today I'm going to find out if it's possible to work out in a Vision Pro. We're going to start with some basic setup before we begin our test.

First things first, these aren't exactly workout clothes, so I need to get changed. Now that I'm dressed, let's get started. You know, it doesn't even count if you don't set your Apple watch workout, so I'll go ahead and do that now. I'll start with an indoor run at 3 mph - that's the average human walking speed, after all.

I can really feel the battery pack swinging in my pocket here, and I can also feel the cable tapping my back. It's not a bad feeling, but it's definitely not what I'd call comfortable. I think part of the comfort comes from how high you have your Solo Knit band sitting around the back of your head. The first time I put mine on, I instinctively kept it low. However, I've learned that the real draw to wearing a Vision Pro is being able to watch something right in front of you.

This portable treadmill doesn't have a spot for an iPad or phone, which is why I usually place my Vision Pro directly in front of my TV. Today, however, I'm going to bring up some apps and see how well the eye-tracking works. Let's open Apple TV and see what happens when I move my head around.

As you can see, it's having a hard time tracking my eyes when I bounce around a bit. It's not unlike trying to pin down someone who knows exactly where they want to go. The result is that everything just shakes around wildly, which makes it difficult to tell what's going on. Unfortunately, this shows up in the video as well.

In other news, we've had some issues with our internet connection lately, and that's caused some problems for us today. We'll try something else later. For now, let's see how long I can manage without getting bored. After seven minutes of walking, I haven't even noticed anything out of the ordinary yet.

I think it would be nice to listen to some music while we walk. Unfortunately, YouTube has restrictions on playing copyrighted material, so that's not an option for us today. Nonetheless, I've found another way to make this experiment more enjoyable. Something else has caught my eye - when I grip the handlebars and move my hands around, the Vision Pro thinks I'm doing a pinching motion. This is because it sees my curled-up fists as pinched fingers.

It's hard not to get distracted when you're trying to keep your head still in front of this thing. Everything seems so big and fuzzy, like it's floating there completely regardless of how much we move around. After 15 minutes, I think I'll stop here and see what my Apple watch has said about the calories burned.

According to my Apple watch, I've managed to burn a whopping 182 active calories during our time walking. Time to cool down now - let's get some water in my cup. However, there is an issue: this Vision Pro goes too far down my face when it sits on my nose. It makes it difficult for me to drink from the cup without having to add a straw.

As I'm pouring myself some water, I realize that the Vision Pro has another problem - its field of view is slightly inset. That means the straw doesn't line up with where it really is, so I'm just kind of guessing right now. And what have we learned from this experiment today? You can indeed wear a Vision Pro while working out, but I wouldn't recommend it. It's not very comfortable to use when you're jumping and working yourself up like that - the interface isn't designed for it, and it's really hard to control.

Although wearing a Vision Pro is definitely not for me, there is something compelling about being able to watch movies or other shows right in front of you. That's why I'd rather take my iPad to the gym than wear this thing. And if you see someone with a Vision Pro at the gym, don't be jealous - they're probably just trying to show off and aren't aware that it's not the best idea.

In conclusion, thank you for joining me on this experiment today. We'll definitely have more experiments like this in the future, so stay tuned!

the treadmill and we'll go from there but first these aren't workout clothes so let me get changed now this is more like it so before we start you know it doesn't even count if you don't set your Apple watch workout so I'm going to start that here uh indoor run there we go turn this on and I think I'm going to go for a uh for a good old 3 mph 3 mph is actually the average human walking speed so I'm going to start easy and just take it as a light jog I can really feel the battery pack swinging in my pocket here and I can feel the cable tapping my back my pants aren't falling down or anything at least so I think I'm I'm going to bump it up to four now we're at a casual jog now I'm wearing the solo knit band which is allegedly the more uncomfortable one and I can feel the headset pushing more pressure on my cheekbones as I as I jog here but it's honestly not that bad I think a lot of the comfort of a solo knit band comes down to how high you have it sitting around the back of your head the first time I put it on my instinct was to keep it kind of low but that's not how you do it you really want it sitting around like the highest farthest point around the back of your head now of course the real draw to wearing your Vision Pro while you're working out is that you can put on a show right in front of you obviously this is a portable treadmill it doesn't have a spot to set around here it's just shaking around wildly I don't know if the video is going to load I've had kind of a wonky internet connection the last few days I got to say this show does not exactly look like a inspiring adventure to me all right well maybe we'll try something else I've killed 7 minutes and I haven't even really noticed or gotten bored yet maybe instead I'll put on some music here of course with YouTube copyright restrictions this is about the only thing we can play that's enough of that something I've noticed is that as I'm gripping the handlebars here The Vision Pro thinks I'm doing a pinching motion because it's looking down at my hands it sees they're kind of curled and then I find myself accidentally selecting stuff on the screen quite a lot it's really hard to know what you're about to do because it shows focus by slightly highlighting whatever you're looking at BO it's shaking so much it's really hard to tell but I will say that as much as I'm shaking the window stays surprisingly planted in space you know it really looks like it's just floating there completely irrespective of all of my jumping and jittering it's been about 15 minutes now I think I'm going to call it there my Apple watch said say I burned 182 active calories so here I am in the kitchen trying to cool down poured myself some water in my cup but then I noticed another problem because the
